Looking for Work?
Consider Substituting! East Peoria Elementary District 86 is currently accepting applications for qualified Substitute Teachers for K-8, Substitute Necessary Workers, and Substitute Cooks. If you or someone you know is interested check out www.epd86.org. For more information please call Tracy Ellis 309-427-5100 or visit
the District Office, 601 Taylor St, East Peoria.
Winter Weather
In case of inclement weather, school closings will be listed on television Channels 19, 25 and 31 or Cable Channels 7, 8 and 10 as early as possible. School closings will also be on most radio
stations based out of Peoria. Please check your television or radio before calling the school. You may also check the district website and click on the Emergency Information link to see if school
is closed that day. East Peoria District 86 will rarely, if ever, close early because of bad weather. We do not want to risk children being left home alone or locked out of the house. A
One Call Now message will also be sent.
Christmas Break
It’s cold outside!!
We will be going outdoors for recess as long as the weather permits. If the temperature is above 20 degrees, we will be outside for recess. It is important that children wear warm clothing to school. Children will be more comfortable with a warm winter coat, hat, gloves, and a scarf. We will check the actual temperature and wind chill on cold days prior to the first lunch. If it is too cold, we will have indoor recess. Once the snow starts to fly, only those students with boots will be allowed off the blacktop.

Yearbook Order forms will sent home with the
kids after Christmas Break. Please turn in
your order forms at your earliest convenience. If you need an additional
form, please contact the school office 427-5300.
Starting the week of December 3rd, students will take the Measures of Academic Progress test for the second time this school year. We administer the MAP test to determine the child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year to year in the area of reading and math. The MAP tests will be administered using computers and are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for each child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward test-ing. Each school year, students will take the test in the beginning, middle and end of the school year. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth. For more information on resources for parents, access the Document Library at www.nwea.org and download the online Parent Toolkit from the web site.

LIBRARY NEWS FROM MRS. CRISLER:
Throughout the month of November we have been having a great time reading Monarch books in the library. I hope your child is coming home and sharing about the books that we have read together.
In the computer lab all grade levels have been busy on various projects. Kindergarten students practiced their phonics skills using a software program. First grade has been practicing their typing skills using various typing web links. Second grade students typed a paragraph (or two) about Thanksgiving in a Google Document.
I would like to thank all of the parents who donated their time and efforts in making this fall’s book fair a great success. Armstrong library received several new books!
