At the Housewares Show this spring I came across a booth that had large stainless steel dispensers and bottles everywhere. On second glance they were displaying olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I love and use both items but didn’t think it was a product for my store. The young woman at the booth stopped me and persuaded me to have a sample. She handed me a small cup with a taste of olive oil. What? No bread to dip? I’d seen chefs on cooking shows taste oil directly from a cup but thought it was bizarre. She assured me this was the best way to taste the oil so I did.  I was shocked at the mild, buttery flavor.  There was no sharp bite … I’d put it on toast! Then she took my cup and added a bit of their balsamic vinegar and swirled the cup. The vinegar was sweet and syrupy but tangy and complex. Deli-cious!!!   She had flavored oils and I asked to taste the basil infused olive oil. (I love to cook with fresh basil, but when I plant it my dogs like to use it for a toy.) It had EXACTLY the flavor of fresh basil. I tasted others of her products and all were wonderful. The basic extra virgin cold press olive oil is low acid. It is award winning and very affordable. If any of you have experienced the products in a Con’olio tasting room I would tell you that I actually believe the Ariston products to be superior. We give out samples every day, all day.
