Expectations

By Board of Education policy, a total of 26 credits are required for graduation as follows:

4.0 Credits in English2.0 World/U.S. Studies, 1.0 Govt/Economics3.0 Credits in Science4.0 Credits in Mathematics2.0 Credits in Business/Computer .5 Credits in Health .5 Physical Education1.0 Credits Unified Art1.0 Fine Art7.0 Elective Credits

  Unified Arts include Art, Music, Agriculture, French, Spanish, Business/Computer,

or Family/Consumer Science Fine Arts include Band, Steel Band, Choir, Guitar, Music Appreciation or Art

Students are required to pass all five parts of the 10th grade OGT. More detailed information can be found in the National Trail High School Program of Studies

Graduation Requirements

Honors Diploma The National Trail student who completes seven (7) of the

following eight (8) criteria will graduate with an Honors Diploma.

Four units English Four units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry,

Algebra II or equivalent and another higher level course or a four-year sequence of courses that contain equivalent content.

Four units of Science including physics and chemistry. Four units of Social Studies. Either three units of one foreign language or two units each

of two foreign languages. Earn one unit of a Fine Art Maintain an overall Grade Point Average of 3.5 on a 4.0

scale. ACT Composite Score of 27 or SAT score of 1210 in the

Verbal and Math sections.

NTHS will utilize a modified Block ScheduleBrown Day and Orange Days (Twice a week)

School Day is from 7:35 – 2:27

ATTENDANCE DEFINITIONS

1. A tardy is charged to students when they come to school late up until 9:00. 2. A one-half day absence is charged when they arrive more than 85 minutes late or

leave more than 45 minutes early. 3. A whole day absence is charged to students when they are not in attendance for at

least 2 blocks.

Tardy To School If a student is not in his assigned room when school begins at 7:35, he is tardy

to school.

If a student is tardy to school, he must report to the office for a pass to class. Students may have two unexcused tardies to school before a detention is

assigned.

Attendance

Excused AbsencesPlease notify the school before each school begins on the

day of the absence, to explain the nature of their child’s absence from school.

Report your child’s absence by calling the attendance secretary at 437-3333 and press 1 to record the information.

Each absence must be followed with a note upon the students return to school.

The note should to be given to the attendance secretary stationed in the office or commons area.

If a note has not been received within two days of returning from absence, the absence will stand as unexcused.

Unexcused Absence

If absences are not excused as defined in the previous section, the absences are considered unexcused.10 Day Rule3 Unexcused Tardies = 1 Unexcused Absence

Students who have an unexcused absence will receive a grade of zero for instructional activities for which a grade is given.

After the second unexcused absence the county truancy officer will become involved in your students attendance.

Loss of Credit due to Poor Attendance:  Students absent more than four (4) days of school per quarter will receive a

grade of “F” =64% in ALL CLASSES for the nine –week grading period, only if the students quarterly percentage is greater than 64%. If the grade is less than 64%, the student will receive the lower percentage for a grade.

Days missed for court-ordered appearances, doctor’s visits, bereavement (within the immediate family), field trips and school-sponsored activities will not count toward the four (4) day limit.

Out-of-school suspensions will count toward the four (4) day limit. A student may make up the credit by attending an “Extended Detention,” or time as assigned by the principal.

A student must attend one day of Extended Detention (or its equivalent) for each half-day absence in excess of four (4) days.

If a student is on attendance probation (has missed more than four (4) days they cannot go on any non-educational field trips.

Students over the four(4) day limit may appeal any days missed. The appeal must be made in writing within 5 school days of the end of the 9 weeks in question.

Cell phones Students are not permitted to use cell phones

during school hours 7:25 to 2:27 (First bell to last bell).

Building HoursStudents are permitted in the building from 7:00 to

2:45.Students are to report to the cafeteria prior to 7:25.Students are not permitted to be upstairs until

7:25.National Trail Schools has a closed lunch.

General Information

IncompletesAll work must be completed within ten (10) school

days of the end of the 9 weeks. Any incomplete grades on the report card will turn to an “F” after ten (10) school days of the end of the 9 weeks.

Dress Code Clothing must be clean, well-fitting and in good taste. Clothing

must be free of holes above the knee.

Dresses, skirts and shorts shall be no shorter than 5 inches above the kneecap.

Shirts or tops will be long enough to tuck into pants, and will have a high enough neckline to COVER ALL CLEAVAGE and not show a student’s back. Shirts or tops that reveal portions of the waistline, torso, or chest area are not appropriate. Tank tops or tops with spaghetti straps are not acceptable. No transparent garments, open mesh garments or garments with large open sides may be worn without an appropriate under liner.

Clothing or personal possessions containing messages that are obscene, sexually suggestive or make reference to violence, illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco products are not permitted.

National Trail Athletic Code

Eligibility All students in grades 9-12 are required to meet Ohio High

School Athletic Association eligibility standards.

All students in grades 9-12 must receive passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit classes during the preceding grading period.

All students in grades 9-12 must attain a minimum grade point average of 1.4 during the preceding grading period.

A student who is ineligible and becomes eligible does not qualify for participation until classes start for the next grading period.

A student on attendance probation will miss a game for every unexcused absence and unexcused tardy. A student is on attendance probation when they have more than

3 unexcused absences or 3 unexcused tardies, or any combination of 3 unexcused absences and tardies per 9 weeks.

Important Dates

Parents: How can you help you child? Regularly talk to your child about their school day. Make sure they are doing their homework. Regularly check their grades on moodle. Make contact with your student’s teacher by phone, e-mail, or

personal conference when you have a question or problem.

Students: Steps to be successful in school Be in school everyday! Be Organized! Be prepared. Use your intervention time. Take things seriously, grades count now – colleges and future

employers are going to look at what is on your transcript. Get involved – have fun. Ask questions.
