Today’s ObjectivesAfter today's class, you will be a
ble to know:•What is the Alkyl Halides!!!!!•How to name the Alkyl Halides (super easy!!!)•Some other properties of Alkyl Halides!!!!!
![Page 4: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)An organic compound that contains carbon, chlorine, and fluorine
Physical properties:- colorless- relatively odorless- low toxicity - can be dissolved in water
![Page 5: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Brainstorm
What kinds of things do
people use CFCs to do in
our daily life?

![Page 7: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Explain it in a simple way
An organic compound containing at least one carbonhalogen
• bond (C-X)• X (F, Cl, Br, I) replaces H
Can contain many C-X bonds
Properties and some uses• Fire-resistant solvents• Refrigerants
![Page 8: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
How to name it?
• Name it in the same manner used for alkyl groups.
• F-fluoro Cl-chloro B-bromo(the general term for an attached halogen atom is a "halo" group).

Let me tell you how to do this
• examples: Candy time! • Are you ready?
Are you sure?
Ready? Set? Go!!
CH3-Cl = chloromethane
![Page 10: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Naming Alkyl Halides
• Name is based on longest carbon chain• (Contains double or triple bond if present)• Number from end nearest any substituent (alkyl or halogen)
![Page 11: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Naming with Multiple Halides
• if more than one of the same kind of halogen is present, use the prefixes di,tri, etc.
![Page 12: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
• if a compound contains both alkyl and halo groups, list the attached groups in alphabetical order. Start numbering the end which gives the lowest set of number.
![Page 13: Are you ready for some science?](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022081519/56813cd8550346895da67b62/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Naming if Two Halides or Alkyl Are EquallyDistant from Ends of Chain
• Begin at the end nearer the substituent whose name comes first in the alphabet.

CH2F - CHCI2 -CHI2
Easy. Normal! Hard?
THE HARDEST 截图
Can we do this?Absolutely NO!!!!The reason why we can't do this is because there is no place for another carbon to attach to the carbon that has already existed.
let's me show you a diagram.
