ARE YOU GOING TO RUSSIA? YOU SHOULD REMEMBER SOME RULES.
WHY IS THIS WORLD SO COLORFUL AND SO WONDERFUL?
Some type of behavior, habit
or a custom may be
considered as absolutely
normal for one person and
for another one living in an
opposite part of the world
may come as a complete
surprise.
Maybe because there are milliards of people thinking, looking, behaving,
living in a different way?
And it can be important
sometimes to be into the
game and know the rules of
the country you are studying,
living, working or just having
fun in. And in the end, it is just
damn interesting!
LET’S MAKE SOME EXAMPLES…
Italy is a totally European country,
China – Asia, Russia – something in
between. Should you adapt and
behave in a different way going to
these countries?
Are there some common rules and
maybe some crazy ones? Let’s look
at these differences on the
examples of Russians and Chinese
who live in Italy for quite some time.
LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF
My name is Olga. I am a Master
of Science student of Politecnico
di Milano. I am from Russia, from
Moscow.
Living in Como for quite a long
time I couldn’t help but notice
that there are some differences
between Italians and Russians in a
behavior and a way of living. I
adapted quickly and even loved
some of them
Let’s see….
TRY TO GUESS…
What do you think were the strangest
things for me in a behavior of Italians?
TALKING ON THE PHONE ON THE TRAIN.
In Italy people are ok
with talking on the
phone for more than
one hour when they are
in a public place.
In Russia we usually
leave private talks for
home and while taking
a train or a bus we try to
be as fast as possible in
our conversation in order
not to disturb people
around.
KISSING EVERYONE WHEN GREETING EACH OTHER – BOTH CLOSE FRIENDS AND CASUAL
ACQUAINTANCES.
If you are going to
Russia, you will
hardly see the
men kissing each
other while
greeting. Girls can
do that but also only if they have
already become
the close friends.
NOT TAKING OFF YOUR SHOES AT HOME
It was very surprising that
in Italy you can be
invited to someone’s
place and you don’t
need to take off your
shoes there.
If you are going to Russia
you will be probably
asked to take off your
shoes and will be
offered in advance
prepared slippers or
something similar.
NO FOOD ON THE TABLE RULE
It turned out that in Italy it
is not very polite to leave
food on your plate when
you are invited for a lunch
or a dinner. In Russia it is
completely normal.
Usually for special
occasions Russians cook
many dishes and there is
always a lot of food left. It
is not right from any point
of view but it still works in
this way.
LACK OF FLOWERS
If you are going to Russia, you will notice
that there are a lot of men on the streets
with flowers. It is normal for us when a guy
brings a flower for a first date.
The flower shops in Moscow are almost on
every corner. It is just a common gesture of
politeness.
If you are invited for a dinner to Russian
family, a hostess will be happy to get a
flower from a guest. So future guests should
keep it in mind.
PAYING THE BILLS WHILE INVITING A GIRL FOR A DATE
If you invite a Russian girl for a date in
Russia most probably she will expect you to
pay a bill. In Russia this Asian way of
thinking is still deeply rooted. Russian
women are not fighting for equal rights and
got used to be treated as a weaker part .
It applies also to the cases like: opening a
door before a woman, helping her take on
a coat, moving a chair in a restaurant,
carrying a heavy bag from the shop.
Any man going to Russia should remember
these simple rules while treating every
Russian woman, be her a colleague, just a
friend or a casual acquaintance.
THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION!
I hope that knowing these simple differences will make you
feel comfortable in my big and friendly country ;)
