03/12/2012 - **Eolas**Cúrsaí Scór**posted 3 Dec 2012, 03:32 by Unknown user

**Eolas**Cúrsaí Scór**As previously announced Coiste Náisiúnta Scór in conjunction with TG4/Adare Productions are promoting a Clár Nua Teilifíse featuring County Scór na nÓg Finalists 2012/13.Auditions will be held in 3/4 centres around the country. Attendance at these auditions is voluntary and is completely separate from our own Comórtaisí.The series will consist of 13 programmes in total --- 10 preliminary rounds,

quarter-final, semi-final followed by the final. The aim of the series is to promote our language and culture, to highlight/showcase the talent of our young members and to entertain the viewers. The Information to hand from Adare Productions (Programme Producers) is as follows:

This new show for TG4 is aiming to promote the Irish language and culture, showcase the talent within the Scór na nÓg competition and entertain the Sunday evening viewers on TG4.There are 13 shows in total. The first 10 shows are the "Round 1" shows. In each Round 1 show, 8 to 9 acts will perform. It will then fall to our panel of judges (judges yet to be confirmed) to select one act to progress to the Quarter Final.By the end of the 10 Round 1 shows, we will have 10 show winners, who are our Quarter-Finalist.Show 11 is the Quarter-Final. From this show, a number of acts will be selected to progress to the Semi-Final.Show 12 is the Semi-Final. Again, from this show, some acts will be selected to go through to the Final.Show 13 is the Final. Here, one act is selected as the series winner. The rules of the competition differ somewhat from the rules of Scór na nÓg. We will not segregate the acts under different headings. So we will not have one show dedicated to set dancers, another show just for ballad groups, etc.... In each show there will be a variety of talents on display, all competing against each other. In order to select the acts for the show, we would like to "audition" the top 3 placings from each county in:Céilí/Figure DancingSolo SingingInstrumental MusicBallad GroupSet DancingWe would also like to audition the county winners in:Recitation/StorytellingNovelty ActThere is no scope to include competitors in the Question Time category. This would not fit the light entertainment talent show format that we are producing. The reasons we wish to see your top 3 placements in the 5 above mentioned categories is that we wish to have as much variety in age, gender and region as possible. For example, perhaps some counties have no solo singers, then places would open up for second and third placed singers in other counties. But in general we will probably end up selecting county winners for the show, but for age, gender and region purposes we may also select second and third place competitors. Our next step is to organise regional auditions. Once we've established the dates that would not clash with your own events, we will put a schedule together and contact you with dates for the regional auditions. I am hopeful that between us we can have your top Scór na nÓg competitors at the auditions, and make sure that your county is represented by your most talented members. The show will be recorded in RTE in Dublin. The recording dates for the 10 Round 1 shows are:22/23/24 January 20135/6/7 February 2013Acts invited to take part in the series would NOT need to be available for all of those dates. They would only need to be available for one of those dates to record the Round 1 show they are in.The dates for the final 3 shows (Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Series Final) have yet to be confirmed, but will probably be in March / April------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuairim/OpinionTomás Ó Cadhla - Oifigeach Gaelainne agus Cultúrtha - Port Láirge

"Reality TV" is now a part of everyday life and are the most watched TV programmes by Teenagers and Young Adults. The Popularity of shows

such as X-Factor (UK and USA) and other Reality Talent Competitions such as Britain's Got Talent and The Voice (both Ireland and UK) is huge and these shows in turn have enjoyed massive TV Ratings.

Young members of our GAA Clubs all over Ireland, north and south, have been happy to engage in Auditions for these shows along with hundreds of thousands of other Young Adults.

As far as Scór is concerned, counties and divisions all over Ireland are struggling to maintain interest in our GAA Talent Competition and consequently we are struggling to get new clubs and individuals involved which would give the competition a new lease of life. This TV Series, used and structured in the right way, we feel, can give us that new lease of life we need.

If we look at the Influence that modern artists can have, who were born out of Reality TV, we only need to look towards our own All-Ireland Football Final in 2012 - where Janet Devlin (X Factor Contestant 2011) performed.

If we are to look at the popularity of Reality TV Shows, then, having a Show promoting our Scór na nÓg Competitions, could benefit the Association three-fold.

Our Clubs and Competitors who have been loyal to the Scór Competition for many years now have an opportunity to display their talents on our National TV Screens, and show people who are otherwise oblivious of our Competitions, the talent which exists within our Competitions.

The idea that the top 3 acts in 5 of our Scór Competitions will be given the opportunity to audition for this new TV Series should be used as an incentive to invite more Young People into our Scór Competitions in the first place, with the appeal of being able to possibly compete in a brand new Reality Show as a consequence of doing well in the Scór Competition itself.

After the first Series has been broadcast successfully - this could act as a catalyst for even more children to compete in Scór for 2014 and these competitors in turn have the opportunity to be Part of the 2014 TV Series.

As somebody who has been involved in Scór as a competitor, since the age of 14, as a past Divisional Scór Chairman and as the Current Oifigeach Gaelainne agus Cultúrtha i bPort Láirge , we have always been looking for an ideal opportunity to promote our Scór Competitions to a wider audience. I believe, with good Programme structure and a well thought out format beforehand, that this opportunity is the best that we have had in years to put our CLG Scór Competitions back on the platform where we feel they belong.

17/10/2012 - The Better Together Campaignposted 17 Oct 2012, 01:25 by Unknown user

The Better Together Campaign in Partnership with Mental Health Ireland, LGFA and Youghal Ladies FootballWhat is the better together Campaign?Better Together is a nationwide campaign which aims to make Ireland a better place to live by building support for charities, clubs and associations across the country. How did youghal Ladies football become involved in this campaign?Last April Youghal Ladies Football club hosted an evening at the club in which Mental Health Ireland and LGFA (Ladies Gaelic Football Association) were invited to participate. The evening was to bring together the wider community and promote the Building Resilience theme with guest speaker Amy O Shea Cork Captain 2011. With over 100 delegates and representing organizations it was deemed a huge success. Mental Health Ireland suggested we enter this competition to highlight the success of the evening but also the club. What was involved?A 2 min DVD was required to capture the evening but which tells the story “why we are better together”. In fact we had to edit 2 and half hours into 2 mins so from the start it was very difficult. Why is Youghal Ladies football better together with mental health Ireland and with LGFA?The short DVD highlights the principals of togetherness! We are working hard through the medium of Ladies Gaelic football in assisting young Females to have a positive view of themselves & community. By providing the space to be involved in every aspect of the club regardless of ability is the corner stone of all this. What do the public need to do?Go to the better together campaign site, and look for our video “Building Resilience together” http://www.bettertogether.ie/content/building-resilience-together-mental-health-ireland-lgfa-and-youghal-ladies-gaa-club And Click on Vote.Remember you can vote once a day until 19th November, so set reminders on your phone. We need to make the shortlist which is the first 30 highest votes!!Winners will be announced on the 9thDec

We would be very grateful if the general public in our community would set a side a vote on a daily basis up until 19th November. Collectively WE ARE BETTERTOGETHER!!!Gordon KinsleySecretary Youghal ladies Football15/10/2012 - Cruinniú Cinn Bliana Scór Chorcaíposted 17 Oct 2012, 01:23 by Unknown user [ updated 17 Oct 2012, 01:24]

Congratulations to the Youghal U14 Ladies Footballers who won the East Cork Championship tonight defeating Mayfield on a scoreline of 3-4 to 2-5. Full report to follow. PhotosEochaill 3-04 Mayfield 2-05

On Friday night last, we travelled to Brian Dillions GAA, for the East Cork Girls Under 14 Football Final. A large crowd had travelled to witness the Youghal girls take on a team who had beaten them once already this season, so we all knew that this was going to be a tight affair. Without fail and as predicted, this is what we got as the Youghal and Mayfield teams went at it right from the off. Mayfield got the brightest start with a well worked goal within the first five minutes. Instead of Mayfield building on this goal it was the Youghal girls who reacted the best by taking some excellent points and a superb goal taken by Catriona O’Keefe. Throughout the first half, magnificent individual battles were taking place all over the pitch, but it was Youghal who came in at half time leading on a score line of 1 – 03 to 1 – 01.The second half continued at the same intensity as the first had finished. Both teams were giving their all knowing that only their best on this occasion would win this final. Mayfield were putting the Youghal rearguard under immense pressure, but the girl’s stood up to all that was thrown at them. This was important as with our forwards keeping the scoreboard ticking over with well taken points and a fine goal by Ciara Crowley, we needed to be sure and keep the Mayfield attempts to a minimum. We were succeeding in our efforts up until the last couple of minutes when Mayfield went ahead with some well taken scores. The Youghal girl’s at this point showed some great character and determination when in a great move, starting from the backs, through the midfield and into the hands of Clodagh O’Keefe who buried the ball to the net. This was to be the defining score of the game and Youghal finished worthy winners on a score line of 3 – 04 to 2 –05.Team: A. Arthur , E. Farrell, N.Kelly, K. Coleman, A. O’Sullivan, L. Dempsey (c),E. O’Brien, L. White, S. Keneally, C. O’Keefe, S. O’Connell, C. Landers,C. Crowley, C. O’Keefe, C. Mulcahy.

Subs: M. Hannon, S. Hannon, M. Brophy, L. Sheehan, H. O’Connell, A. Flavin, AoifeFlavin, K. Murphy, E. Youghal GAA Fun WalkWith glorious sunshine basking down on Youghal beach on Saturday 29th September, Youghal GAA Club and all of its units, Senior, Eochaill Óg, Ladies Football and Camogie held their inaurgual Fun Walk in association with Rebel Óg and the Mercy Hospital Trust. With over 150 juvenile members decked out in the maroon and gold taking part and supported by parents, grand-parents, babies in buggies and family pets the group of approximately 400 congregated on Youghal’s promenade for a 5 km walk out along the beach to Redbarn and back. The location couldn’t have been better and more importantly safer for the group as the beach offered the freedom to walk, run or sprint with some of the juvenile members taking it as an opportunity to get some extra training under the watchful eye of their respective mentors who acted as marshals on the day. Everyone really enjoyed this Club event as it gave all the opportunity to get out in the fresh air and exercise on one of East Cork’s beautiful beaches and also raise funds for both the Mercy Hospital Trust and underage clubs in Youghal GAA. Every juvenile on the walk was presented with a Rebel Óg watch and also received a RSA reflective armband which no doubt will be put to great use now that the walking bug has bitten!!.Youghal GAA and all of its units would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sponsored the kids on this Fun Walk. Finally to our Fun Walk coordinator, Aine Martin and her committee well done on organising a fantastic morning.Photos of the day can be accessed athttps://picasaweb.google.com/108755513452309363100/FunWalk?authkey=Gv1sRgCKmOg4_mvt6Y1AE#25/09/2012 - Youghal U10 Girls Footballers Capture East Cork League Titleposted 26 Sep 2012, 01:01 by Unknown user

While national attention was focused on the All-Ireland Final over the weekend Youghal’s U10 Girls Football team had their own mini-All Ireland in Carrigtwohill on Saturday when they took on St. Nicks in the East Cork League Final. After defeating Watergrasshill on the previous Tuesday in front of a very well supported crowd in Magners Hill the Youghal girls travelled with confidence to take on their city rivals. As the convoy of supporters decked out in the maroon and gold left Youghal, one felt a historic day beginning to unfold.

From the start the Youghal girls quickly set about their business and attacked the St. Nicks goal. Good interchange from our midfielders resulted in an early goal by Caoimhe O’Mahony which settled the team. With the back line marshalled by captain Sorcha Connolly well in control the Youghal girls snuffed out any chance St. Nicks had to get back into the game. A well taken goal by Sarah O’Sullivan mid-way through the first half had the Youghal supporters in full song, with verses of “Lets go Youghal lets go” echoing around the pitch. Further points from Chloe O’Connell and Eabha Walsh

saw Youghal lead 2-3 to no score at half time.

As expected the St. Nicks girls came out and threw everything they had at the Youghal defence which was capably dealt with by Niamh, Hannah, Jenny, Cara, Cassie, Sorcha and Lesley. With midfielders Kate and Eabha getting on top of their respective players scoring opportunities started to arise for Ciara, Niamh, Chloe, Molly, Caoimhe and Sarah. A further 3 goals in the second half had the Youghal supporters in full voice who rushed onto the field at the final whistle to congratulate all involved on a historic day when the first U10 trophy was brought back to the Club on a scoreline of 5-3 to 1-1.

On accepting the trophy captain Sorcha thanked St. Nicks for a great game and wished them all the best in the future. As is custom the convey of supporters headed for town and brought great joy, colour and noise to the main street as they paraded through the town with their well-deserved trophy singing “John is winning matches” a reference to our own Jimmy McGuiness!!. Afterwards all players received goodie bags sponsored by Galvins Cost Cutters (to which we are very grateful) in Club Aras to the strains of Queen’s “We are the Champions”courtesy of our DJ on the day TJ. To our main sponsor Murphy Insurance Youghal the U10 mentors would like to extend their gratitude for supporting the team over the year and we hope you got as much enjoyment from the games as all players, families and friends got.

For the record the 2012 panel was made up of 32 players who must be credited with their dedication shown throughout the year by consistently turning up for training every Saturday & Wednesday. The 2012 victorious Youghal Ladies Football U10 panel was Niamh G, Hannah, Jenny, Cara, Cassie, Sorcha, Lesley, Kate, Eabha, Ciara K, Niamh F, Chloe, Molly, Caoimhe O, Sarah, Mary, Amy, Aisling, Emily, Aoibhe, Caoimhe M, Caoimhe S, Leah, Emma, Grainne, Roisin, Tara, Avril, Abby, Catherine, Ciara H, Aobh.

23/08/2012 - Brookes Super Valu are the new sponsors of Youghal GAA Clubposted 23 Aug 2012, 08:09 by Unknown user

Youghal GAA Club got a significant boost this week ahead of their Cork County semi-final match against Bandon, when Brookes Super Valu announced they were the new sponsors of Youghal GAA club.Ken Brookes said “I am delighted to be involved with the club and now that Super Valu are tied in with the All Ireland Championship it makes perfect sense to tie in with our local club herein Youghal”.Mr Brookes presented two separate sets of jerseys to the Youghal hurlers and footballers and the local club kept the business in Youghal purchasing the sets from local business 'Sports and Leisure'.Youghal GAA Club Chairman Ger Motherway said “It is great to receive this kind of sponsorship, especially in these times and Ken and his family have a long association with the town and I want to thank him for his support”.Youghal GAA Club have some very big matches on the horizon including the Cork County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Final against Bandon in Pairc Ui Rinn and the Cork County Intermediate Football Championship Quarter Final replay against Adrigole following a recent classic match in Carrigadrohid.Last year Youghal came so close in both codes, losing out in the Intermediate Football Championship Semi Final replay to Kinsale and losing the Cork County Premier Intermediate

Championship Final against Courcey Rovers,so this sponsorship deal from Ken Brookes Super Valu is a real boost for the club going forward and with a bit of luck we can now go one better in the Hurling this year and two better in the Football.Youghal GAA Club wish Ken and his staff every success for the future and ask that everyone supports our sponsor.

15/04/2012 - Youghal Ladies Football Notesposted 15 Apr 2012, 16:10 by Unknown user

What an eventful week in the history of our Club after hosting a very successful Easter Peil camp and holding a "Your Mental Health is Your Wealth" night for all clubs and organisations across both East Cork and West Waterford.

Easter Peil Camp

Our inaugural Peil camp was held over 4 days with 59 girls attending. Current Cork U16 Ladies Football manager Charlie McLoughlin ran the camp putting the girls through 4 fun filled days of drills, skills and games. The theme of the week was developing proper football techniques and team spirit. “From an early age boys and girls need to be thought the techniques of football properly and that’s what we do”, said Camp Co-ordinator, Charlie McLoughlin. “Underage structures, at county and club are the future of our game and any opportunity we can give to young players to improve their game the better. “Clubs whose players attend camps benefit in turn and for those new to the game it puts them in the right direction in a friendly atmosphere”. Each girl also received a full kit as a momento of the week. With weary and tired limbs all the girls went home happy and with new tips and tricks (which were evident in subsequent games against Mayfield and Rock Bán). Comments received from the camp include, "Best camp ever", "What was good? No Boys", "We learnt new drills every day", "It was great to play with the U14s one 8 year was quoted!!". The club would like to thank all coaches, players and parents who assisted in running the camp and a special word of thank you must go out to our Chairpersom Catriona who had the vision to organise the camp.

Team Updates

Our juniors continued their league games against a strong Lisgoold team last Wednesday, though short a few regulars the girls never gave up and tried their best throughout the hour. Our U14s played top of the table Mayfield in Copperalley on a sunny Saturday afternoon in a tremendous game of football where after playing against the wind the Youghal girls in the 2nd half tore into a 2-5 to 0-1 half time deficit to leave it 2-5 to 1-4 with 5 minutes remaining only to conceed a goal which killed off the contest. Well done to all in what was a great battle and no doubt will stand to you come championship. Their last league game is against Lisgoold. Our U10s headed off to WhiteChurch just north of Cork City to play Rock Bán in their first league game on Sunday. In a very exciting game of football were both sides scored some brilliant scores and gave it their all, the sides were evenly matched going in at half with the homeside 1 pt ahead 1-2 to 1-1. On the resumption Rock Bán extended their lead with 2 goals but full credit to the Youghal girls who fought back to score 1-2 leaving the final score 3-2 to 2-3. Best for Youghal were Lesley Cashman, Kate Galvin and Caoimhe O'Mahoney. Next up is Erins Own at home. While the U10s were doing battle our U9s & 8s also played Rock Bán in which honours were shared and great fun was had by both teams. Our U12s continue their league campaign with an away trip to Bride Rovers on Wed 18th April @ 7pm.

12/04/2012 - Youghal Ladies Football Club Mental Health Information Nightposted 15 Apr 2012, 16:08 by Unknown user [ updated 16 Apr 2012, 04:17]

PhotosAfter months of planning Youghal LadiesFootball hosted the much anticipated "Your Mental Health is Your Wealth" information which was open to all parents, players, clubs and organisations from East Cork and West Waterford on Thursday 12th April at theirhome in Club Aras. With over 100 in attendance the evening was deemed a great success. The Ladies Gaelic Football Association with a current deep interest in Mental Health for all of it's members also sent down a representative from Croke Park with a view to using the format of the evening as a standard template to be rolled out

across the country. It was a landmark evening for such a youngclub being the first club nationally to adopt the theme and host it within their club.Michael Twomey who produced the local documentary “Town out Of Time” chairedthe evening and in his opening comments he made a lot of reference to thedocumentary and the term Resilience. Amy O'Shea, the 2011 Cork Ladies Football captain opened theevening with some honest and powerful comments on her own experience as a young player andhow she was a late developer into the game. Amy who has had her own battleswith injury over the years spoke about how that affected her own mental healthconstantly thinking she had kicked her last football, but through support and positive thinking she overcame these obstacles to return to the game she loves. She also gave some very insightful advice to many underage coaches present on how to manage all players within their panels and always positively encourage and support all players regardless of their ability.Ted Tierney CEO of "Mental Health Ireland" delivered the main presentation of the evening “The Strength of Community in Challenging Times- Building Resilience Together”. Ted gave an overview of the night and howYoughal Ladies Football Club have pulled out all the stops in making thisevening happen. It is hoped that the Youghal Evening can be used across allclubs in the country in conjunction with LGFA.

The second half of the evening gave an insight into current trends across both Ireland and Europe on both alcohol and drug usage within the different age groups and also covered what local drug and alcohol services (YoughalCommunity Drugs Initiative) are available within the community.

To compliment this Diarmuid McGowan of the ASAP within the GAA discussedthe Alcohol Substance Abuse Policy which all units (GAA, Ladies Football, Camogie & Eochaill Óg) of the Youghal GAA club developed over the fewmonths. The Policy which had 3 drafts was most recently signed of by the SeniorExecutive last month. The main points of the policy are:

1. U18 Medal ceremonies shall not be held in pubs

2. Cigarettes shall not be sold in the clubhouse.

3. Alcohol advertisements shall be phased out on club jerseys.

4. The cup shall not be filled with alcohol during celebrations.

5. Coaches and Club Officials shall act in responsiblemanner around alcohol while representing their club at matches

6. Club members, officials, coaches and volunteers shall not presentthemselves at club activities while under the influence of any drug.

7. Under 18’s shall not be brought to pubs on the way to or frommatches, outings or training sessions.

All persons associated with our club can help preventdrug-related harm from occurring during club activities.

The above policy and ASAP officer Peter Quealy were formally launched by Chairman of Youghal GAA Ger Motherway who also complimented chief organiser of the night Gordon Kinsley, secretary of the Ladies Football Club who over the past 5 months drove this excellent initative across all units of Youghal GAA. The evening finished with Chair of Youghal Ladies Football Club, Catriona Bulman-Hill thanking all presenters and all attendees for turning up.

13/03/2012 - Cooney says ‘other people’ can pass judgment on leadershipposted 13 Mar 2012, 10:12 by Unknown user

By Jim O’Sullivan - Courtesy of The Irish Examiner

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Christy Cooney believes it will be up to ‘other people and history’ to adjudicate on his leadership of the GAA which ends when he hands over the reins to incoming President Liam O’Neill in Portlaoise next month.

However, the consensus view from a wide cross-section of personalities representative of all strands of the Association who gathered in the Youghal club pavilion on Saturday evening was that his term marked a period of sustained growth and advancement.

There to honour him and his family, were Director-General Paraic Duffy, Camogie President Joan O’Flynn, Cork secretary Frank Murphy, former Munster chairman Jimmy O’Gorman and numerous others who were associated with him at club, divisional and county level.

The attendance of the Camogie President was symbolic in the context of her late father Jim being secretary of the East Cork board and having worked with Christy’s late father Paddy when he was a Youghal delegate.

And, in time, Christy would take on that mantle, graduating to the County Board and from there to the Munster Council which he chaired before being elected President-elect — at the second attempt — in 2008, in Sligo.

"Having two people from East Cork, from neighbouring parishes and family friends, was unique," she commented, adding that this ‘mutual respect’ had made an enormous difference to the working relationship between Camogie and the GAA over the course of their respective terms.

"What I admire about Christy is his passion for the clubs," she said, also singling out his ‘purposefulness.’ "I don’t think he started anything without seeing it through to the finish and that is a quality to be admired.’’

Brendan Cooney, the President’s ‘baby brother’ remembered him taking on the role of club secretary when he was 15, with club stalwart John Parker recognising the huge influence of his father. "Paddy lived and died for the GAA and that love was passed on to Christy........’’ Brendan agreed, saying: "Christy committed himself to the path our father had taken."

Former East Cork Secretary Willie Ring recalled his time on the Board working both with Paddy Cooney and Christy, praising the President for being ‘a steady hand on the ship through calm, and sometimes not too calm, waters! He did his family proud, his town, his club and his county. We are all immensely proud of what he achieved.’’

Jimmy O’Gorman praised him for his ‘exemplary leadership,’ acknowledging his ‘fair-mindedness and courage’ and adding: "the GAA is all the better for your stewardship.’’

Frank Murphy highlighted the family commitment to Cork teams, recalling that Paddy Cooney was a selector with the U21 hurling team which won four All-Irelands between 1968 and 1971, again in 1976 and that Christy was on the selection committee when the title was next won in 1982.

Paying tribute to him as ‘a man of vision, talent, drive and common sense,’ the Cork secretary said that Youghal and Cork could be ‘immensely proud’ of his contribution.

"We applaud him for ensuring the advancement of the strength and image of the Association during his term of office.’’ Commending the club for their organisation of the event, Director-General Paraic Duffy said that it epitomised what the GAA was all about – the community coming together. Noting that ‘there was hardly a day’ that he didn’t speak with the President, he said that he always admired the ‘incredible level of energy’ he brought to the role. In terms of his willingness to go anywhere he was invited, ‘he gave himself totally to the GAA, in a most unselfish way.’

"He brought a particular style of leadership, very strong and very direct," he added, acknowledging that ‘not everyone’ accepted that approach. "With Christy there was no middle ground – you were either in or you were not! We made huge progress on many key issues during some difficult times for the GAA and all that time he gave the Association strength and outstanding leadership.’’

Last Saturday evening was a memorable one for the club and for the Cooney family as Youghal GAA Club had a night with the President at Club Áras, Magniers Hill. The evening was MC'd by the 50+ vat Mick Sheehan who did a wonderful job extracting the

best bits from all his guests. The night was one of memories of the years gone by and a night of commitment by Christy Cooney for his beliefs on how far the Association has come and how he hopes it will progress forward. The evening was brilliantly ran, with Film Footage and music from Chomltas and inspiring voices throughout. It was more than just an evening for Youghal GAA Club, it was a community evening with members of many clubs, such as Youghal United Soccer Club, Youghal Golf Club, Youghal Rugby Club and many other representatives from clubs and organisations present as well as members of the Cork County Board, the East Cork Board and politicians like Sandra McClellan TD, former Minister for State Michael Aherne, County Councillor Barbara Murray and local town councillors too.One of the most personal accounts came Christy's brother Brendan who spoke of his childhood memories as well as the pride the whole family had in Christy's achievements within Cumann Lúth-Chleas Gael. Also present was Runai Cumman Lúth-Chleas Gael Coiste Chontae Chorcaí Frank Murphy who spoke of Christy being a close friend of his and a great man for the Association. All in all it was a very poignant moment for the club with the Uachtaran Cumman Lúth-Chleas Gael in his final four weeks as the President spending a night with Family, friends and Club Members in a very special atmosphere. The Club thanks everyone who turned up on the night and we hope that you made feel very welcome indeed.Well Done to Liam, Aine, Ken and everyone involved in making this night such a success and congratulations to the Chairman of Youghal GAA Club Ger Motherway for a very polished evening for the club.Copperalley is open for PlayIntermediate Hurling League Youghal 0-12 -0-13 BallincolligUnfortunately our Premier Intermediate Hurlers lost out by the narrowest of margins at Copperalley last Sunday afternoon.Peter Queally is missing out on quite a few players through injury, so the team should be complimented for staying within striking distance of a full strength Ballincollig side, but injuries are taking their tolls at the moment and the sooner we get everyone back to full fitness the better.R Cunningham: B Ring, B Coleman, S Twomey: M O'Cronin, K Welsh, A Curtin: N Roche, J O'Mahony: B O'Sullivan, B Ring, K Dempsey: B Moloney, C Spillane, J Ormonde.Subs L Desmond for J Ormonde (HT) K O'Manony for B Ring (40) J Ormonde for N Roche (50)Ref Peter Hegarty (Cloyne)Championship Dates for Youghal GAA ClubIntermediate Football Championship Sunday the 6th of May in the Castle Grounds in Macroom against Adrigole at 2.30pm.Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Saturday the 2nd June against Watergrasshill in Killeagh at 7.30pm.Wednesday the March 21st Under 21A Football Championship Youghal v Midleton at Magniers Hill 7.45pm.East Cork Junior 'A' Football Championship Youghal v Carrigtwohill Saturday the 31st of March, venue to be arranged. As you can see in the above fixtures Youghal's first Championship outing is on Wednesday the 21st of March against the 2011 champions Midleton at Magniers Hill. The long awaited trip to Kerry which was anticipated by all went ahead last Saturday the 3rd March. This trip was planned at the start of the year and was pushed out from February to March due to weather issues in North Kerry.47 Players from both groups U12/14 and very welcome support from parents took to the bus at 9am from Club Aras in Youghal. The Bus trip to Killarney for the first stop ended up with a small bit of a shopping event compliments of “Claire’s” accessories at the outlet Centre. The fashion on show was a sight with the whole event and tour been christened the“Bling Bling Tour 2012”We arrived in North Kerry just after Lunch for our first match with the U12s We had some good spells of play from all players but ended up loosing to a very good team. The U12 team is in a transition of development, blending those just out of U10 grade with current U12 players. The year will have a different focus on Development, improving the basic skill level at this grade and full inclusion of all players. The U14 game went ahead just after and from the off the challenge was very strong by Finuge. There were some very noticeable individual battles on the field with Finuge which had some gracious comments by the chair of Finuge club.Finuge in North Kerry have senior ladies football and the under age structure of the club has some serious coaching going on. The club was voted Club of the year in Kerry in 2011 and once we arranged this challenge we were aware that it was a strong club with good football roots. We learnt a lot more about individual players and our own abilities as a team from this day which we hope will stand to us on in the near future. The hospitality shown to us by this club was very welcome with refreshment’s been served before our journey home. We presented Finuge with a shield in appreciation for hosting us and currently it is been considered in a Memorial tournament for one of their senior players who passed away following an accident last year. It is a very good thought to know Youghal Ladies Football is involved in such considerations on a tournament outside of our own county. We would like to thank the Parents; Siobhán, Marie , Alison, Niamh and Caroline who gave 100% on the day and without that extra bit of help it wouldn’t have gone off so smoothly. And of Course the players, they were a credit to their parents, a credit to themselves and a credit to represent their club the way they did….BLING BLING!Gordon/Finbar / Jenna &Claire

08/02/2012 - Sponsored Cycleposted 8 Feb 2012, 01:34 by Unknown user [ updated 10 Feb 2012, 04:05]

The first Club Sponsored Cycle took place on Saturday Jan 28th last as a fund-raiser towards the substantial costs of running the various club teams for the year ahead. Almost 40 lads (and one Lassie) took part in the near-70 mile cycle which left from Club Arus at 9am. The peleton broke up into groups under the leadership of our friends in Youghal Cycling Club. After cycling through the town, the cyclists headed out the Dungarvan road in the direction of the dreaded climbs at Kiely’s Cross & the Marine Bar, before heading for Dungarvan. Thanks to the excellent support from the ladies of Youghal Camogie Club, a refreshments centre was set up in Dungarvan GAA Club, where the cyclists had drinks & food. The next stage took the cyclists out the Waterford road in the direction of Lemybrien, before turning onto the Coast Road & back to Dungarvan GAA Club where very weary limbs rested

once more before heading out on the final & longest stage. This stage took us up the Cappoquin road before turning left for Whitechurch, Aglish & Clashmore. The savage hill after Lickey Bridge was testing after a long day in the saddle but everyone made it up to the top & then a leisurely cycle home before the rain. The peleton reformed at Lidl car-park & cycled through town again, ably led by youngsters from Eochaill Og. The dare was set to see who could cycle up Cork Hill & everyone made it (well, nearly everyone!). We cycled through the gates of Club Arus again at 3pm. After a well deserved shower & meal, the lads settled down at the bar to review the day – the review lasted longer than the actual cycle itself! Many thanks to the clubs of Youghal Cycling, Youghal Camogie & Dungarvan GAA. Also the many club members who acted as stewards & ensured that the day passed off without a hitch – it just wouldn’t have been possible without your help. 03/01/2012 - Youghal Ladies Football Club Reviewposted 5 Jan 2012, 06:41 by Unknown user

2011 will hold many memories for all the members and supporters of the newly formed Youghal Ladies Football Club. After a very successful Gaelic4Girls Program which was run from September to November 2010 we became official on January 28th when the club was formed. In our inaugural season we fielded 5 teams, Junior, Gaelic4Mothers, U14, U12 & U10s with over 120 players with 40 adults either playing Junior or Gaelic4Mothers and over 80 juveniles aged 6 – 14 years olds. Highlights of the year was of U12s winning the East Cork League and championship which was beyond our wildest dreams when we started on this existing journey, our U14s taking part in the Féile and a fantastic day out in Croke Park when we took 30 girls to play on the hallowed turf.Full report (Courtesy of www.youghalonline.com)
