Local wood materials as well as labor is used to create the structural elements
Rainwater catchment strategies are used to utilize the amount of water falling on the roof and the lack of water retention. The water is then sent to the Aquatics Centre for their use
Sunshading devices is used to control heat gain during summer hours and to provide a wood architectural connection to the atrium.
Glazing is used in the atrium to provide natural daylight into the space and to save on lighting energy.
An intentional organization move to place spaces around the arena to avoid direct sunlight on the arena space and create a buffer zone between the arena and the exterior.
A heat recovery system is utilized for the arena, to send the excess heat over to the Aquatic Centre to use. There is also heat recovery systems in place for the other spaces.
Natural daylight is provided to the East side spaces, by pulling back the skyline 2m and the building back another 2m, and creating openings near the ceiling.
