Discription

Cyclestation, Exposition Park houses over 100 bi-cycles in 1,600 1,800 sq. ft. The facility is staffed by Cyclestation employees 66 hours per week with Cy-clestation parking available to it s members 24/7. Inaddition to secure bike parking, the facility also pro-vides a private changing room, bathroom, shower and day-use lockers for rent, as well as bike rentals, repairs and retail sales. Located along the northern edge of Exposition Park, Cyclestation Exposition Park allows commuters to take public transporta-tion to the station, where they pick up their bicycles and continue on to work, shopping or entertainment.

Site

The site is the northern border of Exposition Park adjacent to the new Expo line of the Los Angeles Metro. The site is bordered by single-family residen-tial neighborhood to the west, the USC campus to the north and the primary site for the 2020 Olympics to the south.

Discription

a) Thirst Organization

Thirst is a nonprofit organization. Thirst's goal is to bring potable water to rural communities in develop-ing countries. However, meanwhile their mission is to make a better working system of water usage in developed world. They want to make a starting point in a beautiful part of Los Angeles, Old Town Pasadena.

c) Unique Public Spaces

A public space may be a gathering spot or part of a neighborhood, downtown, special district, waterfront, or other area within the public realm that helps pro-mote social interaction and a sense of community.

Characteristics

1. Promotes human contact and social activities.2. Is safe, welcoming, and accomodating for all users.3. Has design and architectural features that are visually intersting. 4. Promotes community involvement.5. Reflects th local culture or history.6. Relates well to bordering uses.7. Is well maintained.8. Has a unique or special character.

Objectives

To design a pavilion that possesses all of the above-mentioned characteristics.

Bubble Diagram

Bubble diagram was utilized to create the system of accessibility within the programs. This approach is useful to define spaces before the final sketches take place. I have provided two major entrances to the pavilion, which lead to the larger public space shared by the visitors; I wanted to make the entire facility (including adjacent spaces on the second floor) a bicycle friendly. Adding the seating area next to the public space made sense to me, which subsequently led me to an idea of setting the water fountain in the heart of the design (see Diagram A)

Review of the basic types of governmental regulatory constraints that architects must understand to design a building. Analysis of the basic structural forces that operate on buildings. Objectives

The research of a specific structural design in which minimum surface is acheived over a structural form. The surface will consist of series of aggregated splines to achieve the logics behind it.

Process

I've achieved the minimal surfaces by havily editing a simple rectangular shape until the desired stage. I deigned one structural layer and two outer layers, for the maximum effect, by utilizing the advanced technices of chosen 3D software.
