The Indian institute of management was intended as Centre for training of Indian business leaders.

Concept of Kahn was monastic enclave as starting point of design . The unity of teaching building ,dormitory and faculty housing. Orientation to wind and shade has given architectural elements to composition.

Design was to produce a central ,square courtyard and square masses at the corner.

Diagonal walls were paired to produce circular openings to allow courtyard ventilated by breezes.

GRAND STAIRWAY TOWARDS IIM

Kahn believed learning takes place not only in classroom or lecture hall but rather in informal discussions in foyers, stair, courtyards.
