Remove Escutcheon

Remove Handle Remove Escutcheon

Remove Handle

Removing Covers (Butt Joint Corners)

Loosen set screw, remove operator handle, then

remove escutcheon from sill by lifting off with

hands.

Remove lock handle by pulling outward, then re-

move escutcheon by prying outwards with putty

knife.

Using a putty knife, slide tool between Sill Cover

and Wood Fascia, then pry upwards on tool. See

cautionary note on page 7.

Slide tool along window sill and continue to pry up.

Remove cover by pulling away from frame.

On Arch-top windows, there are two wood plugs in

the header screen retaining groove that hide two

screws.

Note:

When cover connectors are encountered while

prying and sliding putty knife around window,

remove tool and re-insert approximately 2”

further along path and resume prying.

Note:

To access Hinges, the Sill, Header and Jamb

Covers may be removed for ease of access,

but removal is not required.

If removing covers, place wood in a safe

place to avoid damage.

Sill Cover Removal Remove Plug

Head Cover Removal Head Screw Removal

Do Not Press on Fascia! Jamb Cover Removal

Remove plugs and screws.

Remove header cover using a putty knife to insert

between header cover and wood fascia.

Pry down and remove trim by pulling away from

frame.

After removing sill and header covers, remove

jamb cover.

Remove jamb cover by slipping putty knife be-

tween jamb cover and wood fascia near bottom of

window.

Pry inwards (away from jamb), slide tool towards

top of window, and continue prying inward.

Remove cover by pulling away from frame.

Note:

Prying with putty knife against the Wood Fascia

Frame may crack or break the edge. Always pry

away from fascia wood.

Do Not Press on Fascia! Jamb Cover Removal

Pry inwards (away from jamb), slide tool towards

top of window, and continue prying inward.

Remove cover by pulling away from frame.

After removing sill and header covers, remove

jamb cover.

Round Top Only (Miter Joint Corners)

On Round-Top windows only, jamb covers must

be removed before header. After removing sill

cover, remove jamb covers.

Remove jamb cover by slipping putty knife be-

tween jamb cover and wood fascia near bottom

of window.

Pry inwards (away from jamb), slide tool towards

top of window, and continue prying inward.

Remove cover by pulling away from frame.

Note:

Prying with putty knife against the Wood Fascia

Frame may crack or break the edge. Always pry

Arch Top Windows (Butt Joint Corners)

Place base of strike-side jamb cover on sill.

While aligning jamb cover kerfs with wood con-

nectors, use heel of hand or non-marking rubber

mallet and a block of wood to seat jamb cover

firmly against frame.

Repeat for opposite jamb cover (if previously re-

moved).

Place sill cover ends against jamb covers.

Use heel of hand or non-marking rubber mallet

and a block of wood, tap sill cover down, ensuring

sill cover kerf aligns with wood connectors.

Place header cover ends against jamb covers.

Using heel of hand or non-marking rubber mallet

and a block of wood, tap header cover into place.

Jamb Cover With Kerf

Dual Lock

If dual-lock interlocking strips, FA760501, are not

present on head of frame or wood heads, adhere

the required number of dual-lock interlocking

strips by removing adhesive liner and pressing into

fabricated slots at head of frame.

Interlock the same quantity of dual-lock strips onto

the strips already attached to frame.

Remove adhesive backing from dual-lock strips.

Cover Replacement

Round Top Only (Miter Joint Corners)

Place Round Top head cover against frame head.

Place strike-side jamb cover against end of head

cover.

While aligning jamb cover kerfs with wood con-

nectors, use heel of hand or non-marking rubber

mallet and a block of wood to seat jamb cover

firmly against frame.

Place opposite jamb cover against end of head cov-

er (if previously removed).

While aligning jamb cover kerfs with wood con-

nectors, use heel of hand or non-marking rubber

mallet and a block of wood to seat jamb cover

firmly against frame near head.

Place sill cover ends against jamb covers.

Using heel of hand or non-marking rubber mallet

and a block of wood, tap sill cover down, ensuring

sill cover kerf aligns with wood connectors.

Note:

For purposes of the hardware replacement de-

scribed in this document, the Header Cover did

not require removal for Round-Top Windows.

Note:

On all windows except Round-Top, jamb covers

must be installed prior to installing the sill and

header covers.

On Arch Top windows, using #2 Square drive bit,

drive two (2) #8 x 1 ½” screws, FA7608SS, through

screw holes in header and fasten header to frame.

Replace Operator Handle and Escutcheon

Install operator escutcheon and handle.

Ensure that handle folds into recess on escutch-

eon.

Tighten set screw on handle.

Removal of Standard Hinge

Removal of Standard Hinge

Open window to full open position.

Disconnect operator arm from slider in track

(located on sash). Slip flat head screwdriver or

putty knife between operator arm and track, then

pry downwards.

Retract operator to “closed” position.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, remove lower

hinge covers at frame jamb.

Using a 4mm or 5/32” hex driver, remove two hex

head Depth Adjustment Screws.

Repeat above steps for second hinge.

Remove sash by pulling hinges out of jamb-side

housing recess.

Place sash on work surface.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, remove sash-side

hinge covers.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, remove four #10 x

1 1/4” hinge mounting screws.

Remove hinge from sash.

If both hinges are to be replaced, repeat proce-

dure on second hinge.

Note:

Unless frame-side hinge housing is damaged,

there is no need to remove it at this time. If

frame-side hinge housing(s) need replacing, use

#2 Phillips screwdriver to remove four #10 X 1-

1/4” hinge mounting screws.

Remove housing(s) from frame jamb.

Sash is HEAVY and MUST be supported while ad-

justing height and depth of hinges! Serious dam-

age and/or injury or death can occur if these in-

structions are not strictly followed.

Replacement of Standard Hinge

Replacement of Standard Hinge

Fit new hinge into sash housing, ensuring when

opened, hinge rotates towards the exterior of

sash.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, drive four hinge

screws, #10 x 1 1/4”, previously removed, through

hinge mounting holes and into sash.

If both hinges were to be replaced, repeat previ-

ous steps.

On half of hinge that mounts to frame, remove 2

hex head, Depth Adjusting Screws. Set frame-side

hinge housing aside.

Lift sash parallel with frame and insert hinges into jamb-side housing.

Insert two hex head screws, previously removed, and using 4mm hex driver,

tighten screws. Repeat for second hinge.

Open Operator and press pivot pin into track slider.

Close window.

Check for consistent weather-strip engagement and sash squareness in frame.

Confirm open/close operation with the operator handle.

Confirm lock/unlock with lock mechanism handle.

If adjustment of the hinge is necessary, use the Standard Hinge Adjustment

procedure in this publication.

If no adjustment is necessary, install hinge covers and screws into both hinges,

using #2 Phillips Screwdriver.

Standard Hinge Adjustment

Part Number: HA8406EG

• For standard hinges, remove covers using a #2

Phillips screwdriver

• Use a 4mm or 5/32" Allen Wrench for all adjust-

ments

• Side to Side Adjustment of Sash

• Adjust the Side Adjustment screws on sash

-side part of hinge.

Turn both adjusting screws CCW on both

hinges to decrease gap on lock-side of

sash.

Turn both adjusting screws CW on both

hinges to increase gap on lock-side of sash.

Depth Adjustment of Sash (also called seal pres-

sure).

• Slightly loosen the depth adjusting screws

on the jamb-side part of both hinges.

• Adjust sash to desired compression.

• Re-tighten the depth adjusting screws on

both hinges.

Hinge adjustments are easier if Jamb Co-

vers are not in place

It is possible to separate the Standard Hinge

through removing depth adjustment screws

Before raising the sash, make sure the upper

height adjustment screws on both hinges are

loosened.

Note:

• Height Adjustment of Sash

• lightly loosen all four clamping screws on

all hinges.

• Starting with the lower hinge, turn the low-

er adjustment screw CW to raise the sash.

• Starting with the lower hinge, turn the low-

er adjustment screw CW on second hinge

until met with resistance.

• Turn the lower adjustment screw CCW to

lower the sash.

Turn the lower adjustment screw CCW on

second hinge until met with resistance.

• Re-tighten all clamping screws.

Installing Hinge Covers

• Place hinge cover on Jamb side of hinge.

• Insert included 4mm x 10mm long flat

head screw in screw hole.

• Using a #2 Philips Screwdriver, drive screw

into hinge.

• Repeat for other end of hinge and the oth-

er jamb hinge.

• Repeat for sash side of hinges.

Removal Of Stainless Steel Hinge

Open window to full open position.

Disconnect operator arm from slider in track

(located on sash). Slip flat head screwdriver or

putty knife between operator arm and track, then

pry downwards.

Retract operator to “closed” position.

Using a 2.5mm or 3/32” Hex Driver, remove hinge

covers at frame jamb.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, remove four #10 x

1 1/4” hinge mounting screws from each hinge on

jamb-side.

Remove sash by pulling away horizontally until

hinges are out of jamb-side recess.

Place sash on work surface.

Using a 2.5mm or 3/32” Hex Driver, remove sash-

side hinge covers.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, remove four #10 x

1 1/4” hinge mounting screws.

Remove hinge from sash.

If both hinges are to be replaced, repeat above

steps.

Replace Stainless Steel Hinge

Fit new hinge into sash hinge recess, ensuring

when opened, hinge rotates towards the exterior

of sash.

Using a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, drive four hinge

screws, #10 x 1 1/4”, through hinge mounting

If both hinges were to be replaced, repeat above

Installing Hinge Covers

• Place thin hinge cover on Jamb side of

hinge.

• Insert 4mm x 10mm long flat head screw in

screw hole.

Using a 2.5mm hex driver, drive screw into

hinge.

Repeat for other end of hinge and the other jamb hinge.

• Place thicker hinge cover on Sash side of hinge.

Insert included 4mm x 10mm long flat head screw in screw hole.

• Using a 2.5mm hex driver, drive screw into hinge.

• Repeat for other end of hinge and the other jamb hinge.

Stainless Steel Hinge

• Side to Side Adjustment of Sash

Adjust the Side Adjustment screws on sash-

side part of hinge.

Turn both adjusting screws CW on both

hinges to decrease gap on lock-side of sash.

• Turn both adjusting screws CCW on both

hinges to increase gap on lock-side of sash.

• Height and Depth Adjustment of Sash

• Place blocking under end of sash.

• Slightly loosen all four clamping screws on

all hinges.

• Adjust the vertical position of the sash.

• Raise or lower sash by shimming between

sash and blocking

• After height is adjusted to proper place,

push sash in or out to adjust depth for

proper compression of seal.

• Re-tighten all clamping screws.

• Installing Hinge Covers

• Place thin hinge cover on Jamb side of

hinge.

• Insert 4mm x 10mm long flat head screw in

screw hole.

• Using a 2.5mm hex driver, drive screw into

hinge.

hinge.
