Super Food: CherriesJune brings the sweetness of
red cherries to the market. Thistasty fruit contains antioxidantsthat protect the body fromdamage by free radicals. Some ofthe compounds in cherries haveanti-inflammatory andanticancer properties. They arealso rich in melatonin, whichregulates the body’s naturalsleep patterns. Cherries are highin fiber and are a good source ofvitamin C, which is importantfor maintaining healthy skinand keeping your bones andteeth strong.

Get Creative forYour Brain
Taking on challenging, artisticinterests can keep your brainalert into your later years.Whether you’re picking up apaintbrush, a musicalinstrument, or a dance step forthe first time, experts say givingyour gray matter a new orsurprising activity prevents itfrom slowing down. Whateveryour creative pursuit, make it aninterest that requires some effortto learn; when it gets too easy, look to a new goal.

Family Photo LineupIn addition to Flag Day, June
14 is also Family History Day.Do your descendants a favor byidentifying the faces in familyphotos and writing their nameson the back. You may also wishto note how they’re related toyou. Later generations ofteninherit heirloom photos andhave no idea who’s pictured.

We Salute You,Caregivers
Think of the word “caregiver”and you’re unlikely to questionhow the term got its name. Tocare is “to be concerned” and togive is to “offer to another.”Someone who offers theirconcerns for another iscompassionate, kindhearted andundoubtedly needed. For all thethings caregivers do, fromassisting with everyday tasks toproviding companionship and alistening ear, they deserve muchpraise. We offer a heartfeltthanks and a special salute to allthe caregivers in ourcommunity!
Explore Your TalentsWe all have different gifts, eachof which came because of the
grace God gave us.Romans 12:6a (NCV)
The recent Mother’s DayCelebration was an opportunityfor me to meet a few residentsfor the first time. One suchencounter was with a womanwho expressed her longtimeinterest in writing. When shewas made aware of my writinginspirational articles for theArcadia Gardens Newsletter eachmonth, she expressed a desire toget back into writing-a worthystep forward.
Our talents may be hidden;discovering them will enrich ourlives. A glance at the ArcadiaGardens monthly schedulereveals at least two activities wecould look into where we mayunearth a talent we never knewwe had.
One such activity is “CanvasCreation,” which is held in theExercise Room on Tuesdays @3:30 p.m. Another activity is“Arts and Crafts” held in theGame Room on Thursdays @6:30 p.m. Both activities are ledby Rick Stubbs, Activity Director.
Why not give it a try? Youmay be surprised at what youwill discover.
