FIRE RETARDANT FILLERS LP Filler 2 Finely ground gypsum U.S. Gypsum Co.
Can be used at over 50-55% loadings. Is non-abrasive and non-toxic Intended for use in GRP spray-up, epoxy systems andpolymerconcrete
FIRE RETARDANT FILLER BACO Superfine 7S20 Surface-treated alumina trihydrate Alcan Chemicals
For use in polypropylene at up to 60% loading. Will withstand injection moulding temperatures exceeding 390OF.
FILLERS Hubercarb W3, W4, W5 High purity calcium carbonates J.M. Huber Corp.
For use in GRP, SMC, and BMC, and many thermoplastics, including PVC. Main benefits include high chemical purity with no detectable quartz and very low abrasion. Average particle size is 3-7 microns.
FILLERS Aspraflex 100 and 200 AspraLok 100 and 200 Mica and surface-treated mica J.M. Huber Corp.
Both grades are said to give improved performance over other musco- vite and phlogopite micas in thermoplasticssuchas HDPE,PP,PBTand PVC
APPLICATIONS
ARAMID REINFORCED A dough moulding compound reinforced with Kevlar is being used DMC IN SWITCHGEAR to manufacture high voltage switchgear which is exposed to sulphur
hexafluoride. SF6 is used as an effective arc-quenching agent. It is stable under normal conditions but is known to break down into hydrofluoric acid when exposed to water and this will dis- solve silica - the basis of the glass fibre reinforcement normally used in DMC's. The Kevlar-based compound has been developed by Freeman Chemicals in the U.K. Apart from its resistance factor this compound gave improved dimensional tolerance due to the much lower mould shrinkage value.
