Introduction
What is Aquatic Ecology?
Aquatic ecology is a branch of the science of ecology which is concerned with the study of aquatic ecosystems. This field can be broken into two divisions:1- freshwater ecology and 2-marine ecology.
Aquatic environment can be divided into: A. Marine ecosystem : are among the largest of Earth's aquatic ecosystems Marine waters cover two-thirds of the surface of the Earth involves: E.g .Shorelines, Coral Reefs, Open OceanB.Freshwater ecosystem :Fresh water is generally characterized by having low concentrations of dissolved salts Ponds, Lakes, Rivers ,Streams.
What is the Organisms are life in Aquatic environment?
3-Benthos
1-Plankton:
a-Phytoplankton
b-Zooplaknton
2-Macrophytes
What is the Plankton?
Microscopic materials, minute organisms and detritus in water which
wander at the wind, currents and tides
The types of Plankton:a-Phytoplankton
b-Zooplaknton are chlorophyll
bearing suspended microscopic organisms
consisting of algae with
representatives from all
major taxonomic
phyla
are microscopic
free swimming
animal components of
aquatic system.
a-Phytoplankton
b-Zooplaknton
2-Macrophytes: the aquatic macroscopic
plants confine themselves to the shallow zone of
water
Macrophytes
the term benthos denotes the whole organisms dwelling at the
bottom
