    Important Safeguards

    This appliance is not intended for use bychildren or infirm persons without supervi-sion. Young children should be supervisedto ensure that they do not play with theappliance.

    Warning: To guard against injury, basicsafety precautions should be observed,including the following:

    1. Read and follow all safety instructions beforeusing this appliance.

    2. Danger: To avoid possible electric shocks,special care should be taken since water isemployed in the use of aquarium equipment. For

    each of the following situations do not attemptrepairs yourself. Return the appliance to anauthorised service facility for service or discard theappliance.

    a) If the light falls into water, do not reach for it,unplug it and then retrieve it. If the electricalcomponents of the appliance get wet, unplug theappliance immediately (non immersible equipmentonly).

    b) If the aquarium shows any sign of abnormal

    water leakage, immediately unplug it from thepower source.

    c) Carefully examine the aquarium after installa-tion. It should not be plugged in when there is wateron parts which are not intended to be wet.

    d) Do not operate any aquarium if it has a damagedcord or plug, or if it is malfunctioning, or dropped ordamaged in any manner.

    A drip loop (See the diagram) should be arrangedby the user for each cord connecting an aquariumcomponent to a receptacle. The drip loop is the partof the cord below the level of the receptacle or theconnector if an extension cord is used. It is used toprevent water traveling along the cord and comingin contact with the receptacle.If the plug or receptacle does get wet, do notunplug the appliance. Disconnect the fuse or circuitbreaker that supplies the power to the appliance,then unplug and examine for presence of water inthe receptacle.

    3. Close supervision is necessary when theappliance is used by or near children.

    4. Always unplug the aquarium from the electri-cal outlet, when not in use, before putting on ortaking off parts, before any type of mainte-nance,

    or cleaning. Never yank the cord to pull it fromthe outlet. Grasp the plug and unplug to discon-nect.

    5. Do not use the aquarium for reasons otherthan the intended use. The use of attachmentsthat are not recommended or sold by theaquarium manufacturer may cause the productto be unsafe. This is not recommended.

    6. Do not install or store the aquarium where itwill be exposed to weather or temperaturesbelow freezing.

    7. Make sure any component mounted on atank is securely installed before operating it.

    8. Read and observe all the important noticeson the aquarium.

    9. Ensure input voltage is the same voltage asyour local power supply.

    10. If an extension cord is necessary, a cordwith a proper rating should be used. Careshould be taken to arrange the cord so that itwill not be tripped or pulled.

    11. A G.F.C.I (Ground fault circuit interrupter) &surge protector is recommended for all electri-cal appliances.

    12. Ensure your hand is dry when turning thepower switch on/off and wheninserting/removing the power cord from thereceptacle.

    13. If you are in any doubt about the electricalinstallation or safety of this product you must

    consult a qualified electrician.

    Before First Use / Preparation

    Read and follow all the instructions, even if youfeel you are familiar with the product and find aplace to keep the instructions handy for futurereference. Your attention is drawn particularly tothe sections concerning IMPORTANT SAFE-GUARDS and the GUARANTEE CONDI-TIONS . Please ensure you retain your originalpurchase receipt in the event that guaranteeservice is required.

    Carefully unpack the aquarium making sureyou keep all the packing material until all theparts of the product have been found and theproduct has been assembled.

    This product is shipped to you in a factorysealed carton. Should the product malfunctionin any way or if the unit is damaged andrequires replacement, contact the retailerwhere the product was purchased for inspec-tion.

    10. Leave the Filter Trays at the sink.

    11. Slide the Power Head Adaptorinto the topof the Power Head. NOTE: This my already beinserted.

    12. Insure it is inserted firmly.

    13. Once complete slide the Power Head intothe bottom of the Filter Unit.

    14. Connect the Intake Pipe and Strainertogether.

    15. Slide them into the bottom of the PowerHead.

    16. Connect the Outlet and Extensiontogether.

    17. Connect them into the bottom of the FilterUnit.

    18. Then place the Trays with the washedmedia inside them, in to the Filter Unit.

    19. You will find the silicon elbow has a tubeinserted in it. This may need to be forced infurther, having an overall length of 15cm.

    20. Connect the Spray Bar and the Elbowtogether.

    21. Insert the Elbow and Spray Barinto the topof the Power Head, press down firmly ensure itis a tight fit.

    22. Push the first filter tray to the right as far asit will go.

    23. You will notice the Power Head is sitting onan angle.

    24. In order to correct this you need to slide the

    0-ring on the Spray Baralong and position it soit is resting against the edge of the first filtertray. Do this until the Power Head is straight.

    25. Place the aquarium on a flat level surfacestrong enough to support its weight. We recom-mend a genuineAqua One Aquarium Cabinet(Sold separately) rather than general house-hold furniture.

    26. Place the Filter Unit (Once complete) ontop of theAquarium Body towards the back.

    27. Wash aquarium gravel.Place a portion of gravelinto a bucket.

    28. Run water through and churn it over withyour hand until the water running out of thebucket is clear. It is important to wash the gravelthoroughly. Repeat this process several timesuntil all the gravel has been washed.

    29. Place washed gravel over the base of theAquarium.

    30. At this stage place plastic plants, decora-tions and heater (See Tips) into the tank.

    31. Fill the aquarium with tap water to the levelindicated.

    32. Use Aqua One quality Water Conditioner(Sold separately) to remove harmful chemicalsfrom tap water. E.g. chlorine (See Tips)

    33. Place the Light Unit on the front of theAquarium.

    34. Plug in the Power Head, Light Unit andHeater (If installed) and turn on. Refer toImportant Safeguards for set up of the DripLoop.

    35. Insure the holes of theSpray Barare facingdown and that water is flowing through it.

    36. Replace all lids on the Filter Unit.

    37. Turn the light switch on to ensure the lights

    work.

    38. Test and adjust pH levels.

    Tank Maintenance

    DAILY Feed your fish as per instructions on yourfish food container.

    WEEKLY Test and adjust pH levels if needed

    UseAqua One quality pH test kit, available fromyour local Aqua One Dealer. pH is a measure ofhow acidic or alkaline the water is. It is measuredon a scale of 0-14 in which 7 is neutral, less than7 is acidic and more than 7 is alkaline.

    Some species require specific pH levels pleaseseek advice from your aquarium specialist.

    FORTNIGHTLY 25% Water Change

    What you will need: A Bucket, Gravel Cleaner,Towel, Water Conditioner, Filter Supplement andclean hands. All items are available from yourlocal Aqua One Dealer.

    1. Unplug the Light Unit and remove it from theaquarium. Place it somewhere safe away fromwater & where it will not be broken / damaged.2. Turn the Power Head off.3. The fish and plants do not need to be removedwhen doing any maintenance.4. Place the towel on the floor in front of theaquarium to guard from water spillage.5. Use anAqua One 4 in 1 algae scraper (Soldseparately) and gently scrape away any algaegrowing on the glass or filter pipes.6. Using an Aqua One Gravel Cleaner* (Soldseparately) empty approximately 25% of theaquarium water into the bucket. Take note of how

    much water is emptied.7. Fill the bucket up with the same amount ofwater that was removed from the aquarium.8. Treat the tap water with Aqua One WaterConditioner (Sold separately) as per the instruc-tions on the bottle.9. Let the bucket sit for 10 minutes10. Fill the aquarium up slowly to the levelindicated. Point number 31 in set up instructions.11. Turn the Power Head back on and ensurethat water is flowing out of the Spray Bar.

    12. Test and adjust pH levels.13. Add a filter Supplement.12. Replace the Light Unit.

    * Refer to the instruct ions on the back of your

    Gravel Cleaner to ensure correct use.

    8. Carefully leaver the screw driver downwards.9. This will pop one side of the Impeller Capoff. Fig 410. Turn the Power Head around, repeat steps7, 8 & 9.11. Grasp the Impeller Cap and remove it fromthe Motor. Fig 512. Remove the Impeller. (If it does not come outwhen the Impeller Cap is removed)13. Use a double ended pipe brush to cleanImpellerand inside ofImpeller Well. Fig 614. Also run a pipe brush through the Outlet atthe top of the Power Head.15. Clean the Intake Pipe and Strainerthoroughly.

    16. Reconnect all parts and place Filter Unitback onto the aquarium.17. Ensure the power lead is not wet and plug itback in.18. Turn the power back on and check that wateris flowing though the Spray Bar.19. Replace the Light Unit and Lids on the filterunit.

    YEARLY

    The ceramic noodles are designed to be mainte-nance free,NEVER RINSE THEM IN TAP WATER.

    WEEKLY

    1. Turn the Power Head off.

    2. Remove the Lids from the Filter Unit.3. Remove the Elbow and Spray Barunit fromthe top of the Power Head.4. Remove the Carbon Cartridges and BlackSponges from the Filter Unit.5. Empty a small amount of water from theaquarium into a bucket.6. Rinse the Black Sponges in the bucket.Discard the used water; do not add it back intothe aquarium.7. Rinse the Carbon Cartridges out under thetap, rinse thoroughly.8. Re-insert the Black Sponges and CarbonCartridges.9. Then connect the Elbow and Spray Barunitback onto the outlet at the top of the PowerHead. Make sure the holes of the Spray Barare pointing down onto the Carbon Cartridgeand that the end of the Spray Barhas the capfitted.10. Ensure the aquarium is full. Refer to point

    Number 31 in set up instructions.11. Turn the Power Head back on and ensurethat water is flowing out of the Spray Bar.12. Replace the Lids on the Filter Unit.13. Add a filter supplement.

    The carbon filter cartridges should be replacedevery 6 - 8 weeks for optimum filter perfor-mance.

    MONTHLY See diagrams on next page...

    1. Turn the power off. And unplug both powerleads.2. Remove the Light Unit and place it some-where safe away from water and where it willnot be broken / damaged.3. Remove Filter Unit from aquarium and taketo sink and remove the Lids.4. Disconnect Spray Barand Elbow and clean

    with double ended pipe brush.5. Slide the Power Head off the bottom of theFilter Unit. Fig 16. You will need a flat head screw driver. Fig 27. Holding the Power Head upside down Insertthe screw driver into the larger slot of thePower Head. Fig 3

    LIVE PLANTS

    Once the water conditions and pH levels have

    been corrected, live plants can be added to theaquarium. Remember to empty some waterfrom the aquarium before adding anything to it.

    REMEMBER LIVE PLANTS NEED TO BE

    FED! An aquarium safe plant fertiliser shouldbe used.

    LIGHTING

    No more than 8 hours of light each day anddefinitely no natural light. Longer light times willaccelerate algae growth in the aquarium andhas no benefit to plants or fish.

    FILTER MEDIA

    Biological Filtration (Ceramic Noodles)

    Biological filtration is a process where toxicnitrogen compounds such as ammonia and

    nitrite (Fish waste) are removed from thesystem via a breakdown process carried out bynitrifying bacteria. (Nitrobacter and Nitrosomo-nas). These nitrifying bacteria need substratewith a high surface area to adhere to such asCeramic Noodles.

    LIGHT UNIT DOES NOT WORK

    1. Ensure switch is in the on position on the topof the Light Unit.2. Check light is plugged into power supply andthe switch is on.3. Check the globe and starter are in goodcondition. Replace if needed.

    POWER HEAD WORKING BUT NO / SLOW

    WATER FLOW

    1. Check Impeller is in good condition andreplace if needed.2. Make sure water level in aquarium is abovethe Power Head. Please note the Power Headis a water proof unit.3. Clean Impeller, Power Head and all Inlet andoutlet pipes.4. Check that the Spray Bar is inserted correctly

    with the end cap at the opposite end to theelbow.

    AQUARIUM POSSIBLY LEAKING

    1. Clean filter cartridge as this can create anoverflow.2. Make sure spray bar holes are pointed downonto the Carbon Cartridges.3. Make sure water level is not to high. Refer to

    point number 31 in set up instructions.4. If an air stone is being used check it is notbubbling water over the rim of the aquarium ifso turn the air pump down.5. Make sure the aquarium is sitting on a levelsurface.6. If it is a salt water aquarium remove any saltcreep as it can drain water from the aquarium.

    7a. Remove the Light Unit & Filter Unit from the

    top of the aquarium. Mark the water level.Remove any excess water that may be sittingon the edge of the aquarium. Leave for an hour.If water level drops proceed to step 7b.

    7b. Remove the fish, decorations and gravel.Empty the aquarium and clean the glass DONOT WASH IN SOAP OR DETERGENT. Placea piece of newspaper on a flat level solidsurface. Carefully fill the aquarium ensuring notto spill any water on to the newspaper. Leavethe aquarium for several hours and then inspectthe newspaper for wet patches.
