SFI – Centres for Research-based Innovation The SFI scheme promotes innovation by supporting long-term research through close cooperation between R&D intensive companies and prominent research institutions. Funding:8 years - ZAR 18 million yearly Ongoing SFIs in aquaculture: EXPOSED – Exposed Aquaculture Operations Will enable safe and sustainable seafood production in exposed coastal and

ocean areas through technological innovations CtrlAQUA – Centre for Closed-containment Aquaculture Innovations in closed-containment aquaculture systems, where the salmon is

separated from the outside environment by a tight barrier, will be focused Sea Lice Research Centre (SLRC) Will search for development of new methods for lice control and shorten the

time from basic research to new products and tools for parasite control

Does public money help?

Statistics Norway:

1 000 000 in support Skattefunn

1,2 to 1,7 man-labour year

1 800 000 annual value creation

7 % net return

on on invested public money for research

Support over ZAR 2 500 000 gives best effects
