April Joint Day and Evening Meeting

The surprise program presented by Suzanne Mahler was on Perennial Garden Design. She brought with her a wonderful slide show of her

own gardens she has designed over the years which have changed as the trees have grown to a height that where once there was a sunny garden is now a shade garden.

As always she was most entertaining.

Back to Basics Design Workshop

Another design workshop was held in April. Participants were given a choice of using either pink or yellow flowers. Here are two examples of the designs that were created.

Bring Your Soil Samples to the

Plant Sale May 14th

Sylvia Wahl invites members to bring in soil samples to be tested for their ph (acidity).

A representative from the Master Gardener’s will be there with forms to go with the soil samples,

which will go back to the MG’s office for testing. The results will be mailed to you.

Here are Sylvia’s directions on how to collect your soil samples.

1. According to the size of your garden collect samples, for large plots multiple samples. 2. For each sample using a hand trowel, dig down into 6 inches of soil and put that longitudinal sample of soil into a pail. 3. Mix those soil samples well and put 1/2 cup of soil in a container to bring in for testing.

4. These samples will be sent away to the Master Gardeners and the results of the tests will be mailed to you.

Spring Plant and Bake Sale Saturday May 14, 10-1

Sale preparation:

*Please divide and pot your perennials NOW so that they have time to fill out in the pot and look good. Deliver labeled plants to the Pocasset Community Building by Thursday evening, May 12. Friday is for pricing. Place plants behind the building under the tree. If you have hostas, consider including them so we can have a good selection.

*Houseplants and labeled baked goods can be delivered to the Community Building on Friday, May 13, from 11-1 or on Saturday morning before the sale.

*There will be a "Gently Used Garden Items" table at the sale. Any contributions are appreciated.

*Remember that soil testing will be available this year. Results will be mailed to you.

Thank you to those who signed up for the set-up and sale as well as baking. Your dedication and help are greatly appreciated. We could not do this without all of you.

May 25th Mystery Tour Has Been Revealed!

We will tour the beautiful gardens of Dick White in the Forestdale section of Sandwich. These

beautiful woodland and rhododendron gardens will be on the Hydrangea Tour this summer, but we will get a sneak preview when the spring shrubs and plants are in full bloom

A sign-up sheet will be available at the May meeting. There is limited parking, so we will carpool to this garden. We'll meet at the Christmas Tree Shop's lower parking lot at 5:15 pm and proceed from there.

Since this will take place during dinnertime, we have permission to bring dinner/munchies with us while touring the gardens.

Several members of our garden club attended the Southeast District's Annual Meeting held at

the Plymouth Country Club. At that meeting it was announced that the Floribunda award for the Aptucxet Garden Club went to Helen Farrington for her many quiet contributions to our club.

The Wareham Garden Club Flower Show "Fantasia"

The Wareham Garden Club is presenting - a small standard flower show. The show is open to the public on Thursday, May 12th from 1:30 -4:00 pm at the St. Patrick's

Church Hall on High St, in Wareham. I think it would be quite informative for everyone in our club to go and especially for those of us who have been taking the design workshops. Thanks, Bobbie Dwyer
