The Asian Medical Students’ Association – Phil-
ippines (AMSA-Philippines) is a non-stock,
non-profit, non-government association of dif-
ferent organizations from various medical
schools all over the Philippines. It represents the
Filipino medical students in the Asian Medical
Students’ Association-International (AMSA-In
ternational) and the International Federation of
Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).
Committed to the parallel goals of service and
excellence, AMSA-Philippines has always pro-
vided different avenues for Filipino medical stu-
dents in their pursuit to become holistic and rel-
evant physicians of the future. The association
also seeks to serve as a platform for advocacy
among medical students, pushing for better
health care and social justice in the Philippines.
It has continuously sought to develop deep-
ened social consciousness and a sense of
active participation and contribution among its
members, not only in relation to pressing
health issues but also to other relevant issues
affecting our society as well. AMSA-Philippines’s
holistic approach to health and its dynamic
knowledge cultivated through education, re-
search, and professional exchange has always
been its defining core.
AMSA-Philippines aims to promote humanitari-
an ideals among medical students and seeks
to contribute to the creation of responsible
future physicians without political, religious,
social, racial, national, sexual or any other dis-
crimination.
1. It shall exist to empower medical students to
have a greater awareness and understanding
of their critical role not just as future health care
providers, but also as influential leaders of soci-
ety capable of inspiring change.
2. It shall promote awareness and instil a sense
of responsibility among medical students
about relevant social issues that affect health,
medical practice, and the health care system.
3.3. It shall serve as a channel for professional
and research exchanges with its international
affiliates to further expand its members’ knowl-
edge and clinical skills, and for them to be able
to apply such knowledge and skills in the local
setting.
4. It shall aim to develop a culture of academi-
cally competent, global-oriented, culturally-sen-
sitive students of medicine who can serve as
role models in the health profession.

ABOUT AMSA
The International Federation of Medical Stu-
dents’ Associations (IFMSA) was founded in
1951. It is the world’s oldest and largest indepen-
dent organization representing associations of
medical students internationally. It currently
maintains 123 National Member Organizations
from more than 100 countries across six conti
nents with over 1,2 million students represent-
ed worldwide.
A world in which all medical students unite for
global health and are equipped with the knowl-
edge, skills and values to take on health leader-
ship roles locally and globally.
IFMSA unites medical students worldwide to
lead initiatives that impact positively the com-
munities we serve. IFMSA represents the opin-
ions and ideas of future health professionals in
the field of global health, and works in collabo-
ration with external partners. IFMSA builds ca-
pacity through training, project and exchanges
opportunities, while embracing cultural diversi-
ty so as to shape a sustainable and healthy
future.

TheThe Ateneo Innovation Center is first and
foremost a research organization but we have
to go beyond just research and turn research
into real products and services by commercial-
ization and training, empowering and providing
for the next generation of innovators and tech-
nopreneurs.
Thank you and see you soon!”
“Res“Resilience. That one characteristic us Filipi-
nos have exemplified over the last couple of
years. It is the survival mode by which we have
learned to cope after the devastation brought
about by natural disasters and political turmoils.
Globally, we have been lauded for being a resil-
ient race during these challenging times, and
yet for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), not
much recognition was given. For them, resil-
ience is a way of life since birth, as society has
“I would to welcome the participants of 2015
IFMSA-APRM.
WWe at the Ateneo Innovation Center (AIC)
envisage an Ateneo that helps the country
create new products, systems, services and
even new industries that address National Pri-
orities like Universal Health Care through Health
Innovations, Clean Water, Food Security, Energy
Access and World Class Education.
Our process of innovation, research and
commercialization is really simple: we look for
really good ideas from ourselves in Ateneo,
from our partners, and from around the world
(through literature). We would then create pro-
totypes and show these to our close partners
and get feedback and investment. We work
andand work until something gels or vector into an-
other direction that has more promise.
At the moment, Health Innovation is our pri-
ority. We are into IMUs, phototherapy light, inno-
vative nebulizer, incubator, IMU goniometer,

subjected them to all forms of discrimination ---
whether intentional or unintentional.
FFortunately, a paradigm shift is taking place.
Through the efforts of the United Nations, we
now have the Convention on the Rights of Per-
sons with Disabilities (CRPD), an international
human rights treaty that protects the rights
and dignity of PWD. To date, its provisions have
been signed by 159 State Parties, most of which
alalready ratifying it.
The medical field has a crucial role in making
sure CRPD is practiced, specifically stated in Ar-
ticles 25 “that persons with disabilities have the
right to the enjoyment of the highest attain-
able standard of health without discrimination
on the basis of disability”. As future physicians,
the challenge for you is not only to do no harm,
but also to make sure your practice is inclusive
and without any barriers --- one that will mutu-
ally benefit the medical field and the PWD
community.
It is with great pride to welcome you all, my
fellow PWD advocates from the International
Federation of Medical Students Association.
Mabuhay!”
