Doors Wide Open…Spring is approaching, new roses blossom profusely, and each morn suggests new arrivals, on the land of everlasting opportunities.

An opportunity to search for a profound meaning to our lives and begin a new transition towards a new road trip filled with bumps that will eventually lead to a summerish destination.

A chance to peel back the layers of who I was and nourish the soul with new perceptions that reflect a better part of who I am… because I chose to forgive myself and feel no shame for acknowledging my dreams and lessons that late.

Who said that clarity is an inborn characteristic that leads to all decent routes? Who said that our mission on Earth is for a purpose other than doing mistakes and learning from them? Who said that we should wish back time to other days where things were better off ?

If you are on this journey towards self-discovery, you are inevitably also on a journey towards a fearless expression. You begin to understand the essence of each obstacle that hang up your decisions and were born from deluded feelings of fear and perceptions of powerlessness in influencing your own life. The key to a new change is to be fearless of what you discover and how your life will change consequently; you will need to expose yourself to new adventures, opportunities, decisions, discoveries that are more aligned with what you want. In other words, you need to connect yourself with life through freeing the self from suppressing your natural being. When you make a new dedication to discover the truth, you will free yourself from pseudo facades.

The feeling of inner aloneness is probably one of the fears that may hinder your journey. To surpass this phase, you must embrace this feeling of aloneness to realize the freedom of it. It will be quite challenging at the beginning, but with time and persistence you will treasure the intimate company of your soul and do all things with passion and love. You will learn that the process of learning the truth about yourself is nothing like what your mind fears, rather it will teach you to live your life to its full potential in a courageous and plentiful manner.

The doors of your inner self are wide open for new beginnings…

ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNITALIA IS LOVE

Fashion

Releasing its spring/summer 2016 campaign, Dolce & Gabbana celebrates all things Italian with a storefront setting of Italian shops

and jam-packed imagery with a crew of selfie-taking young models in vibrant-colored outfits. The moment you glimpse the beauty of colors, patterns, and textures, you immediately dream of celebrating the Italian heritage.

The campaign also features Asian visitors reading travel books and embracing the Italian life. It is quite unusual but breathtaking!

Ladybird magazine never stops falling in love with Dolce & Gabbana’s technicolor lace pumps embellished with crystal brooches, extraordinary sunglasses of the Daisy collection, leather bags with embroidery and appliques, razor sharp tailoring, feminine cuts, and iconic prints inspired by the Italian culture.

A’lia Couture Showcase Her New Collection “Bedazzled” at Paris Fashion WeekA’lia couture launched her new collection in Paris Fashion Week, showcasing 10 New Dazzling Haute Couture pieces inspired by the admirable grace and lasting impact of our Egyptian Historical Divas. Ever since the Pharaonic Era, Egyptians have been embroidering their style and fashion trends with unique pieces of art, bling jewelry, and shiny colors. Cleopatra and Queen Nefertiti’s luxurious gowns were a staple of royal women’s fashion. Taking these as inspirations along adding her own modernized creations, have been her ultimate goal in order to launch a collection that is absolutely unique in the runway scenes.

Female Power and Folkloric Romance Defines H&M Studio AW16 CollectionH&M Studio for AW16 is an elevated collection of individual pieces rich in detail- from the precision of cut to the embroideries that appear throughout. Trends this season are all about oversized shoulders and a fitted waist – an hourglass shape, which contrasts with Swedish folkloric influences in both silhouette and embellishment. Long-sleeve draped dresses bring glamour and softness.

Amina Khalil Infuses Oriental Dress-Code with Modern European Styles with ‘Prints of the Orients’Prints of the Orient is the theme of this Spring/Summer ’16 collection, which emerged from the desire to revive the Egyptian fashion scene during the late 20s to 40s which was greatly influenced by the British culture of dress and decorum. Amina Khalil’s collection is a merge between the Oriental dress-code and European finesse portrayed by infusing modern designs with ethnic flavor, and oriental silhouettes with western aesthetic. Garments were designed mainly with the notion to provide the wearer ease and comfort, which is imperative for the modern life-style, thus using light-weight fabrics and unrestrictive shapes.

SPOTTEDCELEBS LATEST NEWS & GOSSIP

Selena Gomez Responds to Justin Bieber’s Cheesy PostsIt seems that Justin Bieber has finally caught Selena Gomez’s attention when he posted a number of old intimate photos of the couple on his Instagram account mid-March. Gomez’s alleged comment to the flashback was awfully ambiguous, when she commented “Perfect!” Whether she was throwing a sarcastic comment or assuring the perfect moment, we are awaiting some real news soon.

Kate Wright and Dan Edgar Reunite Once AgainTheir turbulent relationship has played out both on and off the screen; yet Dan enforced some ground rules to win her back again! The 25-year-old actor stated that he has lost Kate once and won’t risk that again… very romantic. Both stars couldn’t stand the agony of their break up and insisted on moving on from their pretty arguments and agree upon some key points. Many sacrifices were made and rules were enforced to keep things going… we must say that not all men have the willingness to make compromises for their ladies unless there is strong love and bond. We wish them best of luck.

Rihanna and Drake Make a Fan with Cancer’s Wish Come TrueOnly few hours before their live performance, Rihanna and Drake surprised a 14-year-old fan, Megan, with a wonderful visit. Megan suffers from progressive metastasized sarcoma at a hospital in Miami. The trio took moderately few photos and posted them on Instagram under the following caption. “BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! I MET THE LOML. He was so sweet & down to Earth. Gave me and my family some OVO clothing. BEST DAY EVER. NO LIE. @champagnepapi LOVE YOU!”

THE POWER OF SHEA BUTTERBeauty

Shea butter is one ingredient that we seem to find in many beauty products in the best cosmetics shop in town due to its miraculous effect on skin. Shea butter is originally extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree that grows mostly in Western Africa, and this is the reason why it has been dominating the African markets for centuries. What makes Shea butter a marvelous skin care component is its ability to fight wrinkles and scars, protect skin from harmful ultraviolet rays, stimulate collagen, heal minor cuts, strengthen the skin, and certainly moisturize the skin deeply. Cosmetics rich in pure, high-quality Shea

butter are found in numerous famous shops, and we have selected the best items for you.

TIPS AND TRICk to Get You through the Summer

by: AMiNA METWALLy

AAs we welcome Spring 2016 with its beautiful colors, we need to also take into consideration a couple of tricks when applying our morning makeup.

First, start your day with a normal morning routine that includes washing the face with cold water to tighten the pores, followed by rose water.

Apply your morning cream that includes SPF - if you have clear skin that doesn’t need coverage, it’s better not to apply any foundation and just use eyeliner or kohl, mascara, blusher, and lip gloss or lip balm for a fresh look.

FOR MiniMal COvERaGE:You can mix your foundation with your day cream or you can use a suitable BB or CC cream that matches your skin color. You can also use the Face And Body Foundation by MAC followed by translucent powder.

MuSt HavE in YOuR BaG:• A clear lip gloss or lip balm• Mascara• Eyeliner or Kohl• Blusher or bronzer • Lipstick in a vibrant color (red/pink/orange/

peach/neutral nude)

You can choose to go with the simplest look of having the perfect cat eyeliner look with a popping color of lipstick, gloss, or even a neutral lip color with a little bit of blush on the cheeks. Or use the kohl for a smudged look that emulates an appearance of eye makeup worn for days, which is done by applying kohl liner on both upper and lower eyelid then smear it a little to provide this effect. Pair it with either a red or neutral matte lipstick and a bronzer.

FrInGE BAnGS• Section your bangs into three sections, where the

middle section will encompass the bulk of the bangs.

• Start with the middle section; comb well and choose desired length.

• Once decided, grab your scissors and cut vertical snips until you complete the row and they no longer look blunt.

• Now shift to the other outer sections and cut at a downward diagonal angle to create a semi-circle overall shape.

• Go again over the outer sections with vertical snips and make sure that your bang is balanced, for a more accurate and natural appearance.

nOtE: For a sleeker and playful look, make some beach waves. SIDE SwEpT BAnGS• Comb your bangs forward and pull the rest of your

hair back into a ponytail. • Make sure that the top line of your bangs is even.

How to Cut Your Bangs at Home!• Comb your bangs again and then grab it, flip it

over, and keep it in place.• Comb the bottom section out and cut diagonally

downwards using a professional scissors. • Cut it a little at a time to avoid overdoing it. • Comb your bangs again and divide in half to cut

the shorter sections upwards and add some edges.nOtE: Side swept bangs look good on high ponytails or straight hair.

FACE FrAMInG BAnGS• Comb your bangs forward and pull the rest of your

hair back into a ponytail. • Brush it all out and hold it at a cheek length. • Using a hair clips, cut your bangs in an angle and

then fix again to form a straight line.• If you want a more diagonal appearance, divide the

hair to two-thirds and cut at a downward diagonal angle for every section.

URBAN JUNGLE AT HOMEby: SourAyA HASSAN

StYlinG tiP: Colorful Flowers Bouquet I love to use flowers and plants in my home as they give a lively look. I also like to create my own mixed colorful bouquet by choosing each flower myself. You can design a bouquet tailored to your home style by selecting colors that are already present in your interior, or arrange a wild bouquet composed of different flowers as if you just picked them from the flower fields.

StYlinG tiP: Xl Pots for indoor and Outdoor Areas Make your home an urban jungle by adding xL pots to outdoor ar-eas including the garden or bal-cony, as well as inside your home. Work with some xL terracotta pots and paint them yourself using any color you desire. I prefer matt chalk paint or semi-gloss texture for a natural, soft look. You can play with different sizes and colors, ton sur ton as well as mixed colors together.

Page 43: April's issue 2016

URBAN JUNGLE AT HOME

StYlinG tiP: Eclectic vintage lookMix and match an eclectic look! You can create this look using a mix of tables, patterns, old suitcases, and paper bags for your plants. Succulents and cactus are the perfect type of plants to generate a vintage and eclectic look. Combine these plants with a vintage kelim on the floor and different tones of green.

SHOPPinG tiPS: Hanging PlantersHanging planters in assorted sizes are among the interior trends that continue to grow popular in 2016. Beautiful in itself, you can use a large suspending plant or hang up a mix of smaller hangers. For more creative DIY ideas, check tutorials on youtube. You can easily learn how to make your own macrame plant hanger piece of art at your home.

StYlinG tiP: Soft tones and Subtle Styling One of my favorite styles is a soft pastel look mixed with flowers and plants. You can add a single flower in a small transparant vase for a subtle color accent. Sometimes, I stop watering my flowers and just let them dry. These dried flowers provide a little piece of art that delivers joy for a longer time.

Being an Egyptian is a great pride and for me as an Egyptian traveler who visited more than 80 countries worldwide, l al-ways feel special by the ones who appre-ciate the history, the culture, and the her-

itage of Egypt. Almost every time I am asked “where are you from?” and reply “from Egypt” I hear replies like “wow,” “I would love to go to Egypt one day,” or “Being in Egypt is a dream.” Don’t be surprised that other travelers are thinking very highly of Egypt as a dream destination. I have seen many people who are daydreaming about visiting the Pyramids or the Red Sea! I have seen people who are in love with Cairo and Alexandria! Our country has many treasures that we tend to take for granted or even forget about, and the more you travel and meet other travelers the more you’ll feel proud of being Egyptian.

Imagine yourself traveling solo to a country that is rarely visited by Egyptians and you get to meet six other solo travelers and end up spending the whole time in that country with them. This is exactly what happened to me in Luang Prabang, one of the nicest cities in Laos (a country in South East Asia), which marked the Country number 85 in my journey to travel to every country out of the 193 countries in the world according to the list of full members of the United Nations. I am sharing my journey and stories

on my Facebook page, which is called Travel Delights. The solo travelers group was of seven nationalities, which are France, netherlands, Brazil, russia, Eng-land, New Zealand, Germany, and myself from Egypt! At that moment I realized that I was not just repre-senting Egypt, in fact, I was Egypt! I was not called by my name anymore, I was rather called “Egypt” and I used to answer normally! It is just a great feeling of pride to be called by the name of your country.

I did what any Egyptian would do and I talked to everyone trying to convince them of not removing Egypt from their travel list just because they think it is not safe. I talked about the media exaggerating some facts and showing an image that is not fully true but rather partially true. I talked to them saying that what brought you to Laos can bring you to Egypt. Real trav-elers can still make it, they just need to be encouraged. Egypt has got something for everyone - whether it’s cities, history, hiking, beaches, or museums - everyone will find something special and unique in this place. It is really important to leave a positive impression about your country to others and to be as great as your country is! There are a lot of people who would make up their mind about visiting Egypt or not just by talking to you and they’ll build a big part of their perspective about the country just by seeing you. You are Egypt!

Delicate, feminine metal items in authentic gold and platinum and adorned in soft toned-down color combinations to add charm and elegance to its wearer, this is the unique touch behind Bizzari’s

Bizzari takes exceptional route to jewelry making by designing conceptual and contemporary characteristic jewelry with special stories behind each piece and by mixing various cultures and experiences. My work is usually substantial in appearance and texture and has something a little unexpected. Many of my items were

Moreover, I like to reflect some of the negative aspects about our society and transform these dogmas into positive aspects, such as Magic in our society in “Ta3wetha” and “Love is Blind, yet it can still read” collections. The collection is made of four main characters from the original operetta; El Ghazeyya, El Sab3, Shege3 Sl Sema, and the Aragooz. They are four silver marionettes that are not more than 7cm high. The earrings were even more challenging, as the marionettes were the same size of an Egyptian Pound. The pieces are completely dynamic as they dance in the same exact way as the original marionettes. I also created stackable rings of all four characters.

• No matter how bad your cuticles seem, never trim or cut them. The cuticle is a natural barrier to bacteria; hence, when you eliminate it the nail bed becomes more prone to damage and nasty infection. To maintain healthy nails, you can moisturize your nails with essential oils on regular basis. In addition, this moisturizing process can also hamper common nail problems, such as splitting, cracking, or chipping.

Healthy, strong, and well-manicured nails are an integral part of a neat and clean appearance - one that should primarily be among your personal hygiene habits. Instead of wasting hundreds of pounds per month on manicure and pedicure treatment in beauty centers, we have got you covered with tips to get you on the road to beautiful nails.

• Many women tend to clean under the nail using sharp or unfriendly materials, which in return causes a gap between the nail and the nail bed. This behavior influences the appearance of bacterial or fungal infections. As an alternative, scrub diligently using an old-fashioned nailbrush.

• If you constantly immerse your hands and nails in soapy water to wash dishes or clean surfaces, then you must be already encountering some challenges with brittle, weak nails since this practice dries them out. To protect your nails from the negative effects of detergents, wear protective gloves and use long stem brushes.

• While it is hard to skip the pampering luxury of treating your nails, it is recommended to limit your exposure to chemicals and harsh ingredients to protect your nails from becoming weak. Try to minimize your use of manicures, acetone nail polish remover, and acrylic nails, due to their damaging and undesirable effects on the skin.

doctor’s Answer:There are many causes of itchy eyes. Several types of inflammatory conditions, allergic reactions, detergents, chemicals, and sometimes bacterial, viral or fungal infections can cause itchy eyes. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

doctor’s Answer:Grapes and carrots in particular can gently ease constipation. Get yourself into the habit of using fruits and veggies regularly – these are the natural ways to avoid constipation.

doctor’s Answer:Abnormally elevated blood sugars are usually treated medically with insulin, not with foods. People who have a period of low sugar are generally advised to drink orange juice or other form of glucose.

I have high cholesterol and take statins. Do I need to exercise and watch my diet?

doctor’s Answer:You must follow a good, healthy diet and participate in an exercise program that emphasizes cardiovascular activity. One frequently cited study found subjects taking statins who followed a heart healthy diet (< 30% fat and < 7–10% saturated fat) and an exercise program aimed to burn 1,600 calories per week were able to arrest the progression of coronary artery disease. In the same study, subjects taking statins, following a heart-healthy diet and expending 2,200 calories per week in an exercise program demonstrated a reversal of coronary artery disease.

doctor’s Answer:Genetics plays a role in whether or not your clients can obtain a flat stomach or a “six-pack” look to their abdominals. Having said that, two types of exercise can help: strength training and cardiovascular exercise. The abdominals are just like any other muscle group: For their definition to become visible, they must grow larger and the fat that lies over them must decrease. All people with a flat stomach or six-pack have a very low percentage of body fat. Abdominal crunches are effective to train the rectus abdominis muscle, the main muscle in the abdominal region.

Expert’s Answer:Neutral shades are always the best foundation to start with, be it with shoes, accessories, and clothes. Get your basics first: beige, black, gray, and white, then choose the rest of your colors first according to what makes you feel good and secondly, what complements your skin tone.

doctor’s Answer:A gluten-free diet usually offers no benefit for a healthy person. But for a truly gluten sensitive person, it will change his life. The reason? Gluten damages the small intestine leading to decreased absorption of many essential nutrients not to mention the abdominal discomfort. For a healthy person, a gluten-free diet may help reduce weight since so many temptations will be taken away.

tRaininG• To build muscles you must incorporate an

effective training program that focuses on free-weight, multi-joint movements, such as bench and squats.

• The key factor here to reap the benefits of free-weight version is to train at the right intensity, optimally about 70-85% of your one-rep max for 6-12 reps. Gradually, add volume and adjust rep ranges, types of weight, and angles.

• It is imperative to perform all workouts with proper technique or else you will impede your progress.

nutRitiOn• If your goal is to add mass, you need to consume

more calories than you are burning.• Nourish your body with fruits and vegetables,

but above all, eat enough protein every day. Protein is essential to build and repair damaged muscle tissue during and after a training session. Hence, it is always advisable to include protein in all meals, and essentially after workouts. Opt for 20-30 grams per meal.

• You can also consume supplementing meals with protein shakes or protein-rich snacks every four hours, to keep your level of protein elevated.

• While it is mandatory to eat clean as much as possible, it is impossible to retain this habit 24/7. That’s why, nutritionists always advise athletes to relish one cheat meal a week.

tHE PYRaMiD OF MuSClE BuilDinG

aDvanCED tRaininG• You should continually

challenge your body to upshift performance and develop power, strength, and agility. You can do it by lifting more weight, increasing the number of reps, reducing rest periods, alternating different movements and versions - the sky is your limit.

• Try intensity techniques. The following are methods of training past the point of failure. It is recommended, however, not to do them all at once.

• Forced reps: As you reach muscle failure, a partner or trainer steps in and provides assistance to keep the weight moving for another 2-3 reps.

• Dropsets: Once you reach muscle failure, quickly decrease the weight by almost 25% and instantly resume on with the set to a second point of muscle failure.

• Negatives: Instead of lifting a weight, lower it slowly for 3-5 seconds and ask your trainer to lift the weight back to the initial position. This works because you are stronger lowering a weight than lifting it.

RECOvERY• It is crucial to sleep well as

this is the time when your body releases hormones that enable you to heal from training as well as repair and build muscles.

• Rest from exercise. Try to take every other day off.

Cinderella’s Sweep of “Dirty Love”

Bad Reasons for Love and Attracting What It Means

LLove, Love, LOVE. . .all dressed up in

LOVE! Oh, how Jennifer Hudson

gave us that fabulous tune.

The one ending the fairytale in the “Sex and

the City” movie. The one, where

the fairytale of LOVE, was validated as a

possible reality. If it hadn’t come

yet, it could come in the form

of friendship. And in Jennifer

Hudson’s character, true

love came when you gave to

yourself, first.

Page 67: April's issue 2016

by: LAurEN K. CLArK

So, what’s behind the mystery maze of this thing, that thing called… LOVE? Is it one that comes with the typical mirage of our knight coming to save us? Decked in armor, with his majestic sword in hand, ready to take us to our paradise. Could it be the beauty of those imaginations that leave us entranced in our own delusions, where we wait, wait, and wait for our prince to come? Carrie Bradshaw of the “Sex and the City,” movie truly captures this, during the scene of her one-on-one time with her adopted niece. That age old adage of Cinderella, and the wait… hoping that we won’t be waiting for long.

How nice of a fairytale that would make! If only it was real. Alright, now that we are out of dreamland, let’s analyze how far we need to come back to reality. And the reality that we need a HUGE DOSE of. real quick. Because the truth of the fairytale is that it does not fit into reality’s existence. On the contrary, it’s probably the reason why so many women are still single. Waiting to feel love from the outside, as opposed to having first felt it from within, is the main problem. For it is from the interior, that we attract what we desire. So, if there is emptiness within, then rest assured that you are more than likely to attract no one, or the wrong kind of someone! And let’s be honest, you don’t just want… anyone. Or do you?

One of the major lies that we as women have been fed is the notion that true love is the imagery of that famous scenario: A young woman walking alone, and BOOM, prince Charming comes to capture her in her midst. Taking her away to paradise, where all her problems are magically erased. A false awakening that she needs someone to save her!

Here’s the truth of it all, ladies! We are our own very asset for finding love! And we have the power to attract the love that we seek. BuT, it starts with ourselves! The first question begins with a serious, cold-hearted truth. And though it may not be something that you would like to see, it’s necessary!

But before we do this, let’s get out our Cinderella broomsticks, because clearly, there is a lot of dirty love that we need to sweep away.

• Broomstick 1: Do you find yourself somehow, obsessing over the fact that you are by yourself ? A sure sign that you are not content and happy with your own company. And are you always desperate to have a date every Friday and Saturday night?

• Broomstick 2: Have you stopped doing some of the things that you love because you are stuck on your single status? Which means you have probably stopped going to your favorite places, treating yourself out to dinner, and hanging out with fellow gal pals?

• Broomstick 3: The company you keep! Are you spending too much of your time surrounded by women who are consistently dwelling on their manlessness. And it is quite likely that they will stay MANLESS! Connect with other women, who are happy in their own skin! With or without the man.

• Broomstick 4: Are you preparing your space, your place, to entertain that of a man’s company? A woman’s home is her temple. And it is her temple that expresses her character, aura, and demeanor. So, Madame SearchForLove,

what does your home say about you? Does it scream for help, or is it inviting for someone to want to spend time with you in it?

• Broomstick 5: Do you have your own things goin’ on? Yes, it’s time to really reflect on this. How are you in terms of your career? Or your journey concerning your career path? How are you concerning your finances? A woman who is whole and complete also has her stuff together. She is not looking for a man to complete her. That includes finances, personal dreams and plans. A complete woman does not wait around for a man to take care of her. Rather, she is too busy, makin’ it happen!

• Broomstick 6: So, Ms. Cinderella, hoping that your “prince will come;” What’s your spiritual life like? Part of attracting, who we hope for, is sending out those energies that reflect who we are. Let’s say you haven’t found “the one.” Alright, so you begin your casual dating. Look around, and examine the people you are dating. What type of guys are they? Are they as fulfilling and enriching as the man you hope to find. Keep in mind that attraction, and who you attract are signs and reflections on you.

• Broomstick 7: Make your list and check it thrice! Alright, so now that we have done quite a bit of cleaning, we are ready for one last SWEEP! Sit down and make a list of your perfect guy. Does he possess the characteristics of a good father, husband, partner, and person? Do you imagine having a healthy friendship? Knowing what you want… is the real key!

mother & Child

How to Help Your Child Overcome Fears

64 | April 2016

Page 69: April's issue 2016

This is the period of development when children become conscious about the bad sides of the outer world and tragedies that devastates individuals within the family and community. Also friends and television may integrate some scary ideas like death, murder, robberies, car accidents, natural disasters, wars, in addition to a long list of unfortunate events.

In general, a child who witnesses a dog bite is very likely to develop a fear of dogs. Similarly, a child who endures an uncomfortable event may develop some trauma or phobia on the long run, because a child who saw a painful experience will always recall how he/she felt at that moment on relatable occasions. Additionally, children tend to apply one incident to a wide range of potential experiences, which generate unnecessary fears and anxiety.

If you are a mother, you will certainly relate to previous incidents and will be more prone to encounter the same events again. Do not embarrass, shame, or yell at your child’s fear, as this will merely intensify the emotional experience.

Listen and Empathize. parents are fixers by nature, and sometimes they rush into solving problems without listening carefully to their child. They get so busy trying to fetch for a solution to save their child. Instead, listen more and show affection and sympathy. When you attempt to jump into conclusions without listening, you shut him/her down and curb their ability to express.

Take Fears Seriously. Making fun of a child’s fear will not make him/her less fearful; instead, it will elevate feelings of anxiety, lack of confidence, and low self-esteem. The last thing you want is to raise additional negative feelings, phobias, and intense problems. When a child shares his/her deepest fears, you must embrace them with love and attention. Even if your child fears relatives or unrealistic aspects, still take fears seriously.

Give the Right Messages. Fears can stem from a feeling of no control. For instance, a child who fears dogs will be unable to cope if a dog barks aggressively. That same child will also set a new general notion that dogs hate humans. In this situation, it is important to tell your child that it is totally alright to be afraid, and also, encourage the child to read more about this aspect and understand the triggers of his/her fears.

Use Humor Not Sarcasm. Have the child described that monster who frightened him/her last night? DO NOT LAUGH. You need to humanize the image of the monster and make him feel less scary and more dominant through games that spark sense of humor.

That being said, it is time to make a list of things that frighten your child and develop new healthy practices to build his/her self-confidence. If a child fears dogs, establish a step-by-step plan for approaching a dog. Your child will never be able to kick a fear of something overnight, so be patient throughout the process.

Childhood fears tend to spike during kindergarten when the child is exposed to new activities, friends, community, and the outer world. Children also tend to fly with their imagination about how scary things can be which may put a damper on many beautiful occasions, leavings parents torn between battling this state of fear and failing to curb the child’s imagination.

Oh spring…The time when we enjoy the flowers blooming, the birds chirping, the bunnies hopping, and the general “Sound of Music” scene that takes over the world in beauty and song.

Not so much in Egypt though…You see, Egypt has a mind of its own. For starters, summer came mid-february, for a week, then reverted back to winter. Later we started having all fours seasons in one day (you know, so we wouldn’t get bored). So the usual day is winter from 6 am until 10 am, summer from 10 am until 6 pm, spring from 6 pm until 10 pm, and fall the remaining time of the day.

Our closets started exploding because we have t-shirts, shirts, sweaters, jackets, dresses, boots and sandals in them at the same time. Even fashion bloggers, bless them, got so confused that they would wear boots with mini-skirts, jackets over flat sandals, and furs with tank tops. If you go through one of the famous Instagram accounts, you’d find the poor lady changing outfits to cover three seasons in one day. It’s like Armageddon for the fashion world. Of course, we’ve all known that the whole (mo3tadel sayfann, dafe2 sheta2an) literally translates to (We get three weeks of winter that’s not really winter and then Hades comes to visit from the underworld for the rest of the year).

And if you all noticed, we get one day a year where it rains. It doesn’t just rain; tsunami’s younger cousin comes over and tosses around a few things. And every year, when it rains, we go into a state of panic that has everyone run back home like it’s the reckoning. You would think we wouldn’t get surprised by now. But, alas, we turn our cars into a second wardrobe that includes a light jacket, a heavy jacket, spare shoes, and an umbrella just to keep up with the weather’s bipolar disorder.

But hey, if we go over to Sharm El Sheikh or Luxor, we would find an eternal summer and beautiful waters. we would be able to enjoy our Easter holiday the right way, you know salty fish and a dip in the sea, who wouldn’t want that. However, if you’re staying in Cairo for Easter, eat your salty fish at home. You’ll stay away from any weather roulettes and you’ll keep the smell contained.

Happy Easter Everyone.
