Arts in Bartlett lost one of its most loyal patrons and friends March 8 when Jeanette Croonquist Edwards died at the age of 94. Through the years, she was a generous contributor to several projects, donated the $10,000 for the abstract sculpture now in Town Center, and most recently gave us seed money to move into our current Arts Center in 2014. Until just a couple of years ago, she proudly drove her black Mustang around town. Her feisty spirit and passion for abstract art will be missed.

Artists’ Corner

Seeking “Daydreams” art for next Gallery cycle Many artists seem to work in almost a dream-like state.

When they’re totally engrossed in their own vision, they’re detached from the everyday world. This is even more true for those who delve deep into their inner world to create abstract art. That’s why Arts in Bartlett is calling its next three-month cycle of art “Daydreams: Abstract Art.” Abstract art can be interpreted in many ways but in general the painting or 3-D piece should be one that does not depict a recog-

nizable person, place or thing in the natural world. It is based on what you see: color, shapes, brushstrokes, size, scale. If you have a piece you’d like to submit to this exhibit, please bring it in by April 27. Depending on how many we get for the space available, not all submissions may be hung. The exhibit will be ready by May 1 and it will stay up until July 30. A reception date will be announced soon. Email art @artsinbartlett.org for the agreement to list the pieces you want to hang with prices and dimensions. If you have never been in our gallery before, also ask for the artist application.

April 21 Meeting The Arts in Bartlett Artist Group will meet on Tuesday, April 21st, 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Arts in Bartlett Community Room , 215 S. Main for some shaving cream marbling fun. Linda Kay will show you how to create marbled papers using shaving cream and acrylic paints to create beautiful background pa-pers that can be use for many purposes. Those in the November Food Festival can create a placemat using this technique. A supply list will be emailed to the group and is available to any Arts in Bartlett member who would like to join us for some good clean fun. Please rsvp to [email protected] if you plan to join us. We are also in the process of creating artwork for an art in-stallation at the Arts Center Gallery for November and De-cember. We are creating sculptural pieces using a plastic

plate and paper mâché to create a meal that is significant to the artist. If you would like to know more and join this ex-hibit, please let us know and come by the gallery and pick up a plate to work on. As always, we welcome newcomers, sharing of your recent work, events, or accomplishments. We like to keep them brief at the beginning of our meeting so that we can get to our project right away.

Bartlett Heritage Days Art Installation Our Second Annual secret art installation for Bartlett Heri-tage Days, September 11-13, 2015, is in the works! Letter from the President

Happy April, I hope everyone had a nice Easter and Passover and you’re enjoying the warmer weather. We are beginning some special Friday events at the Art Center. If you know of musicians who would like exposure during these events, let us know! We are busy selling tickets for our April 26 Children’s Fashion Show, and will soon start up some Dine Out fundraisers and theater outings again.

It is our membership that sustains Arts in Bartlett, a volunteer-run arts council, so please continue to support us with your membership and invite new individuals, organizations and businesses to join. It is this grassroots advocacy that grows the arts! For some of you who have not renewed for 2015, you may get an email that says this is your last issue of the newsletter because unpaid memberships become inactive at the end of March. Our membership dues have never been raised in our 12 year history, so dues for indi-viduals, families, seniors and students will be raised by $5 beginning July 1 when the 18 month memberships go into effect (rest of 2015 and all of 2016) To renew online go to “Join us” page of artsinbartlett.org You can also buy your tickets for the April 26 “Bartlett Project Runway” children’s fashion show online at the Arts Center page. This is a new event for us and your ticket purchase will help make this a success. We also have several donated raffle prizes includ-ing pieces of art. (See article page 4 for raffle prizes as of April 3. If you can’t come that day, buy a ticket anyway and give it to someone who can use it. Enhancing the cultural arts in Bartlett is so important to enrich the lives of its resi-dents.

Our annual high school scholarship deadline is April 15. Go to the News & Events page of artsinbartlett.org to get an application and more information.

If you are able to volunteer at our Center for the Arts, please let us know. Contact us through phone, email or web-site, as found in this newsletter. We really need our membership’s input and brainstorming on fundraising, sponsor-ships, membership drives, programming and more. All Arts in Bartlett members are invited to come to the next Board meeting on April 27 at 6:30 pm in the Bartlett Arts Center, 215 S Main. We hope that you feel support our mis-sion to bring more arts to Bartlett, volunteer to join a committee, attend our events, and spread the news about Arts in Bartlett, a vibrant arts council!

Thanks!

Shop online & help out your Arts Center

A rts in Bartlett has become an associate of Amazon through their charitable site smile.amazon.com to help raise funds for the new Arts Center. A popular shopping portal for gifts and other items, Amazon has created this easy way to give to non-profits when you order as usual – same products, same prices, same services. Just go through smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com to order and Amazon gives Arts in Bartlett 0.5 of the cost of your order. Here’s how it works: Click here to go to smile.amazon.com and select Arts in Bartlett as your charity. (Be sure not to se-lect “Bartlett Arts Council” that is in Tennessee) Then every time you order on this website, it should indicate at the top of the page that you are contributing to Arts in Bartlett. We have also started a “wish list” on amazon smile for those who would like to give a specific gift. For more information, go to the “About” page on artsin-
