Hello Elephants!

My name is Andy Wong and thank you for the opportunity to serve Division 35 East and Key

Club International for the upcoming 2013 – 2014 term. I have been in Key Club for 3 years

at John A. Rowland High School, and I have recently served as president of my home club.

With each moment I spend in this organization; I can honestly say that Key Club has given

me so many opportunities to experience, to learn, and to grow as an individual as well as a

Key Clubber. Key Club has made such a large impact on my life in the way that I am able to

give back to my home, school, and community.

I first joined Key Club hoping to finish my school’s community service requirement, but after

my first service event; my motives changed. I realized how much Key Club does for the

community and I decided on that day that this is something I want to devote my time to.

Seeing the smiles on the faces of the people we served and experiencing that feeling of

accomplishment after putting countless hours in coordinating events and volunteering is

priceless.

Aside from Key Club, I enjoy swimming, painting, drawing, driving, playing the guitar, play-

ing the ukulele, listening to music, and cooking. In addition to Key Club, I am involved in

ASB, Link Crew, Swim Team, and the Buckboard Day Parade Committee. I love spending

time with my loved ones and hanging out with my friends on the weekends at Key Club

events is something that brings me happiness. My biggest joy is making a difference in the

lives of the people I meet; whether it involves making someone smile or laugh.

As Lieutenant Governor, I plan to increase collaboration, communication, and leadership

amon the clubs and K-families through an increase in event attendance and the creation of

support groups where clubs can connect/share ideas. I also plan on conducting numerous

training workshops to provide officers and members alike the skills necessary to lead and

effectively serve their club and community. My major focus is personal growth and by incor-

porating our core values of caring, leadership, character building, and inclusiveness; I am

positive that members will be able to grow into leaders who will continue to guide future

members so that we can continue serving others and helping each other grow. Again, I look forward to working with you because together, we can guide Division 35 East

towards a successful year of growth and service. I am extremely excited to share our love

for Key Club. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns; please contact me by cell

phone: (626)-863-5953 or by email [email protected]

Greetings! A word from your new LTG! Inside this issue:

As this year is coming to an end, this banquet marks the

beginning of a new chapter for our division!

This year’s banquet was held at Speedzone on April 6th, 2013. Attendees

spent 90 minutes in the banquet room to receive their awards and spend

dinner together. For the next three hours, they were able to enjoy the ar-

cade and racing games offered to them! Some members even went

mini-golfing!

The hard work that members put in, and the dedication of schools to

keep members in their club is recognized at this event. Key Clubbers per-

form service out of their caring heart, and with this, they should be recog-

nized. It is their contribution and dedication that made them stand out

and noticed. I would like to thank all the schools because they are part

of the reason members have events to go to, and a reason to serve.

The D35E Banquet was something that was very memorable and fun to me. I was able to

see everyone's smiles and tears for the officers that weren't going to be here next year. Many

Key Clubbers received awards for their outstanding performances and it allowed me to appreciate

all that they have done for our club and what a huge impact they have made. It was a short way to

wrap up a whole year and see their hard work and effort that they have contributed to make Key

Club better. Seeing all that they have done, it makes me want to become like them and make a

difference in Key Club history. This event was filled with many tears and goodbyes but it was still

an awesome ending to a new future.

What is Boxes for Troops? Boxes for Troops sends care packages to our soldiers abroad. The contents of the boxes

touches the hearts of the soldiers and everything around him fades away, if only for a mo-

ment.

For a few months, many schools in our division such as Bonita and Rowland High School has

been collecting gum, hard candy, and other supplies that they do not receive when they

are stationed. This event was a huge collaboration with our Division Kiwanis Family. Mem-

bers were able to meet key clubbers from our sister division, D35West Seals as well!

So at Williams Elementary School on April 11th, 2013, Key Club members collaborated with

their Kiwanis Family to pack over hundreds of boxes for troops! These boxes will be mailed to

troops stationed overseas and we hope that these items will show them our gratitude for

risking their lives for us.

Boxes for Troops!

Page 5 Volume 6 | Issue 1

My experience at Boxes for Troops was really an amazing

one. Though the event only lasted for a about an hour

everyone there seemed to have a great time. We even

had the honor of having some World War 2 veterans

come recognize our efforts the Kiwanis then proceeded

to offer all of us with lunch which was so very kind of

them. The boxing was the most fun part of the day.

We all started to make boxes then lined up to fill them

often the Kiwanis would play catch with the all the supplies. After we were all done we

had boxed about 100 boxes. Then to end the day off of Division 35 East and 35 West

decided to have a spirit battle, wonderfully 35E won. - Tammy Phan from John A Row-

In the month of April, Bonita High School’s Key Club has participated in numerous events including Spe-

cial Olympics Training, Spring Service Day, Serving for Our Savior (Feeding the homeless), XTERRA Renegade

Triathlon, and Kiwanis One Day. Members of our club devoted a great amount of time to serve our community.

The Special Olympics training is held at Claremont High School with the Pomona Valley Southern Califor-

nia Special Olympics Organization. Every Saturday morning from 9-11, volunteers assist the coaches and encour-

age the athletes. We jog with them on the track, play bocce ball, and throw softballs. It is a great way to start the

weekend because it is a very humbling experience. The athletes and coaches are very appreciative and enjoy our

company.

At the XTERRA Renegade Triathlon in Bonelli Park, key clubbers were able to help the racers by offering wa-

ter, cheering, signing-in, and removing timing devices. Bonita partnered with Diamond Bar High School and San

Dimas High School at this event. Our volunteers also donated canned goods upon arriving to the race and gave

time to set up and take down tents and other fixtures. It was an inspiration to see the athletes cross the finish line

as a sense of accomplishment appeared on their face. It was a perfect day to be at such a beautiful park volunteer-

ing.

This was the first DCM held by

our new LTG, Andy Wong.

We had an officer forum in

which we briefly went over what

each officer position should han-

dle and their responsibilities.

There were many new faces at

this event! So we taught cheers

and had a spirit battle demonstra-

tion!

We discussed about upcoming

events, such as March of Dimes-

Key to College, Pancake Break-

fast. This event showed a high at-

tendance rate and unity among

our division!

The best way to spread spirit is through

cheers! If you are creative and can capture

people’s attention with just a few words,

then we NEED YOU! Help our division

make cheers and you will be recognized! We

will use them at Fall Rally, DCON, and

during spirit battles!

Good at crafts? Or sewing? We need you

too! Help us make spirit gear for events,

like tutus, keyblades, headbands and more!

You DO NOT have to be an officer for any

club! We encourage members to sign up! :)
