Dear Parents, Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice time off during Spring Break. I'd like to bring your attention to an important event coming up at King. I know you have received many communications through emails and fliers but take one more moment to take in this information. The Silent Auction is coming up and it's the BIGGEST fundraiser for King Elementary PTO. This helps to fund field trips, school supplies and PTO events like the ice cream social and bingo night. Please consider pitching in and volunteering, making a donation or coming out to participate in the event. I promise it will be a night of fun for the entire family! Not sure what to expect and want more information? Please feel free to email me @ [email protected]. Best, Jen McNamara, PTO President

KING SCHOOL SILENT AUCTION

Friday Evening April 12, 2019

King School organizes one main fundraiser with big results!

It highlights our community AND is a night filled with excitement, energy, and fun. It features 300 items -generously donated by families, businesses, and King teachers. The upcoming online catalog will describe all that is offered.

The auction is only 2 months away and planning is well under way. Find out how you can help and how you can enjoy all the auction has to offer.

What happens at the Auction?

When and Where: Friday, April 12 in the King School Gym. The festivities begin at 5:30 and we are wrapping up around 9PM!

How do I bid? “Silent” means there isn't a live auctioneer. Every item is displayed on tables and has its own bid sheet. If you want to bid on an item, you sign up with a higher amount than the last person. But come back to check on it - you can get outbid! Many items will be available for online bidding this year on the auction website before the night of the auction.

Bring the Kids? Sure! It is an event for the whole family. King care is on site to help. There is entertainment in the multipurpose room - science night by our own Science Olympiad with a visit from the Hands on Museum leading experiments, entertainment on the stage, a photo booth, and ra"e drawings.!

Is there food? Yes! We will have food available for purchase. !

Much more info will be coming from the King auction committee through emails and the website about early sales with links to donate, buy tickets, and register.! https://kingpto.schoolauction.net/auction2019!

What does the money earned support?

The auction is our biggest fundraiser and typically raises well over $30,000 for King, and makes up almost half our annual budget . This goes to fund all of the PTO initiatives that benefit our children such as:!

# Beginning of the year school supplies!

# Field trips!

# Teacher grants directly benefiting their classes!

# Classroom resources ( scholastic news, big brains, handwriting without tears)!

# Science Olympiad, Math Club, Academic Games!

# King Learning Garden !

# Events like the Harvest Moon Festival, International Night, the Ice Cream Social, and Turkey Trot!

# Additional books for the library and classroom guided reading. !

And these are just examples of SOME of the things. Did you know the PTO pays for all of these programs, not the school district?!

We are fortunate at King that through generous donations and auction participation we are able to provide these resources and opportunities for our students. We hope to continue to provide all these opportunities with your support. We can avoid cutting programs by keeping our tradition of strong fundraising going.

Grade Level Participation We have more ways to donate, and they are easy! Our goal is to have ALL families participate in donations. Any giving, big or small, is appreciated.!

The auction is such a big part of King, of course the!kids want to be involved in planning and preparing! We have two more opportunities for giving organized by grade level. More information will follow with specific information about your child’s grade and how to give to the basket or cash for a cause.!

THE

WINE

PULL

BUILD A BASKET

Soon you will get an email and flyer about the theme chosen for your child’s grade level. Families can donate items that fit with their child’s grade theme. Baskets will be filled with goodies all fitting in this theme. The baskets are assembled and auctioned o# on auction night.!

Kids love being involved in helping select items for the basket.!

CASH FOR A CAUSE

Skip the step of buying goods for baskets… give directly to specific King causes. Let your dollars be your vote for which extra initiatives can be funded this year, above and beyond what we have already budgeted. Previously cash for a cause has funded things such as: the gaga pit, garden benches, musical instruments, books and technology for the media center. !

There will be a new list of several King initiatives for which funding is needed this year.!

Talk with your child about the choices, select your favorites,

How can I contribute? $There are many ways you can help make the auction a success. $Some of our favorite, and biggest, items are from family donations. !Need ideas on what to donate?!

" SPECIAL EXPERIENCES! Donate a class or service - delivery of your favorite meal (you don’t need to be a gourmet chef to share,) dog walking, furniture making, a lesson in your favorite hobby or skill - music, dance, sports, cooking, sewing. !

" TICKETS! Any sports teams (college/pro, near/far), music, arts, dance, theater.!

" PARTIES! Beer or poker night, backyard BBQ, sports tailgate, kids parties, movie night, progressive dinner.!

" TRAVEL! Have a timeshare, VRBO, vacation spot, cabin? Donate a getaway.!

Ready to donate?!Need help developing an idea for donation?!

- please contact us, we will be happy to help!!
