Activities for Preschoolers-Learning through Play April 30-May 5, 2020 Attached you will find a daily schedule of activities designed to support our preschool-age students. For example - What is King Moe afraid to do Who did HumptLJ DumptLJ ǁatch the parade ǁith etc. Extension: Discuss with your child the feelings that Humpty Dumpty and King Moe have in the story. They are feeling sad, scared, shy, afraid etc Ask LJour child Do LJou ever feel like that or Hoǁ are LJou feeling todaLJ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= DIBmxZ5CSJM&t=46s AƌƚPlaƐƚic Egg Painƚing Use plastic eggs and paint to make circle prints on paper. Try using different colors. Language Development: Emoƚion Acƚion Song If you are happy, and you know it clap your hands If you are happy, and you know it, then your face will surely show it If you are happy, and you know it, clap your hands. Now replace happy with different emotions: Mad ʹ cross your arms. Frustrated ʹ stomp your feet. Excited ʹ jump up and down. Sad ʹ make a frown Scared ʹ hide your face. Maƚh HƵmpƚLJƐ Wall Use blocks, Legos or even pillows to create a wall for Humpty Dumpty. Count how many blocks you use before it falls down. Can you stack 10 items? Extension: Practice measuring things next to your wall by comparing how tall they are. Is a cup taller or shorter than your wall? Are you taller or shorter? Fine moƚoƌ HƵmpƚLJ DƵmpƚLJ Sƚick PƵppeƚƐ Using the attached Humpty Dumpty characters, have your child (with supervision) cut out each character then tape/glue each one onto a stick, popsicle stick, or straw. Extension: Use the stick puppets to re-enact the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. Science Ice CƵbe EggƐ You will need: balloons (ice cube tray or muffin tin), small objects, and water. Place small objects in a balloon, fill with water, and place in the freezer. When frozen, break the balloon to discover the frozen egg. Let your child melt the ice cube using salt, water, and/or outside in the sun to discover the hidden object. LiƚeƌacLJ HƵmpƚLJ DƵmpƚLJ SeqƵenƚial PicƚƵƌe SƚoƌLJ Using the attached Humpty Dumpty sequential story, have your child color the four pictures. Have an adult cut-out the four pictures. Mix up the pictures, then have your child place the pictures in the correct sequential order to retell the Humpty Dumpty rhyme. Extension: With adult supervision, have your child cut out the four pictures. MƵƐic and Moǀemenƚ JƵmping and CoƵnƚing by: Jim Gill Jump to the music, then STOP! Count to 1. Then, try it again but count to 2. Do this to 10! Let your child use scissors to snip the strips into smaller pieces. How many times can you catch the item without dropping it? Use the spatial concepts - behind, above, beside, front, between, under and on ie put HumptLJ DumptLJ the chair Extension: Cut apart and assemble the attached emergent reader Where Is HumptLJ DumptLJ Have LJour child color the booklet and read it with them. Game FlaƐhlighƚ Scaǀengeƌ HƵnƚ Use pieces of a puzzle to hide around your home. Let your child use a flashlight to search for the missing pieces. Extension: Use an alphabet or number puzzle to hide. Literacy: “Humpty Dumpty” by Daniel Kirk Click on the link to listen to the story. Humpty Dumpty becomes friends with King Moe. Ask your child wh-questions about the story. For example - “What is King Moe afraid to do?” “Who did Humpty Dumpty watch the parade with?”, etc. Extension: Discuss with your child the feelings that Humpty Dumpty and King Moe have in the story.
