MALAWI CATHOIC PASTORAL LETER GIVES GOVERNMENT A REALITY CHECK

(headlines of Nyasa Times newspaper in Malawi 3/13/16 The Catholic Bishops of Malawi have issued a Lenten Pastoral statement in which they have criticized the

“shrinking standard of lack of public service delivery (power, water, roads, etc.), the increasing gap between

the rich and the poor, the lack of fiscal discipline and misplaced priorities.” Released by the Episcopal Confer-

ence of Malawi and signed by all the Bishops (including our dear friend Bishop Montfort Stima of Mangochi

the diocese of our sister parish in Namalaka St. Joseph) it is titled “Mercy of God as a Path of Hope-On current

Socio-Political and Economic Issues in Malawi” The Bishops said “as pastors of souls” they acknowledge the

many challenges the poor people are facing and reliance and diversification of production. They asked the

government to review its policies and practices to ensure a change of mindset and attitudes so as to ensure

national and household food security, social security and protection of the environment through promotion of

alternative sources of energy and many other areas. (to be continued)

ST. BRENDAN WOMENS BOOK CLUB This month’s book is entitled, “50 Women Every

Christian Should Know” by Michelle DeRusha. This

book shares the stories of 50 women—just like us—

who listened, obeyed and became giants in faith.

Their stories bring to life lives of women who boldly

stepped out in faith and courage and left their mark

on our world for God. Please join us on Monday,

April 25 as we discuss this month’s book at

7:00 pm in the Brendan House Dining Room.

Questions? Call Berni at 425-485-4893 or

Anneliese at 425-486-4225.

Young Adults: All young adults, married, single, working, non-

working between the ages of 18-35 are invited to our next Holy Hour,

Happy Hour event on April 8, at Holy Family in Kirkland. We’ll begin

with an hour of Eucharistic Adoration at 7:00 pm and go to Tres

Hermanos for dinner.

LifeTeen: Meet in the Narthex on Sunday, Apr. 3 at 7:00 pm for faith,

food and fun! This week we’ll start our series of teachings on Mercy,

lining up with Divine Mercy Sunday and Pope Francis’ Holy Year of

Mercy. There will be games and snacks too! We hope to see you

there! No LifeTeen meeting next Sunday, April 10, back to our usual

schedule on Sunday, April 17.

Junior High/Edge: Wednesday, April 6, from 6:00—7:30 pm in

LIBRARY CORNER Happy Easter Season! The liturgical year is filled

with blessings but our Easter tide is the holiest of

all. Our library is loaded with information about

our church’s walk through the liturgical year and

especially our Easter season. Take some time be-

fore or after Mass to wander through our library.

You’ll be surprised at the wealth of information

and grace we have at our fingertips. Check us out!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS CORNER

The Federal Way Knights of Columbus have

stepped up to help Heartbeat Serving Wounded

Warriors in a BIG way. They have collected

$3,000 at their parish, St. Theresa’s for the pro-

grams that serve our WA Wounded Warriors. To

find out how you can donate or volunteer, go to

www.heartbeatforwarriors.org. This all volunteer

organization out of Snohomish is NOT associated

with the national Wounded Warriors Project.

Twice each year (Christmas & Easter) the Bothell

Knights of Columbus send financial support to

our seminarians The Annual Bake Sale is one of

the fund-raisers we have for this support. This

Bake Sale will be scheduled for a coming week-

end..stay tuned.

Spring is the opportunity to clean out that garage

that has become piled high with “treasures”.

The Knights are preparing for a huge garage sale

at the Bothell Rental Hall on Friday, April 15th.

The Knights are now accepting donations for the

garage sale. We are willing to help cleanout and

pickup those “treasures” beginning on Monday,

Apr. 4. Contact Tom Gray at 425-485-3442 or

Del at 425-488-7311 or Dan 425-876-9301.

2ND SUNDAY OF EASTER (DIVINE MERCY) “Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed.” Jesus says in today’s

Gospel. For those who have not seen to believe, however, we must be good

stewards of our faith, living it joyfully and sharing it generously. Then, in our

time too, “men and women in great numbers” will be “added to the Lord.”

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL Our goal for the Annual Catholic Appeal is $145,541 of which we have

payments of $128,527 which leaves a balance of $17,014. The $17,014

amount is what the Parish would have to pay the Archdioceses if the ACA

Campaign was to end today. If you have not made a pledge, please do so. If

you have made a pledge, you have until April to complete your pledge. Any

shortfall has to be made up by St. Brendan Parish.
