Tis year’s Montana paddlefishseasons will again kick off on May 1st(this coming Sunday) with the openingof the Upper Missouri River sectionfrom Fort Benton downstream to FortPeck Dam.
Camping and other access will be
available at the James Kipp RecreationArea near the Fred Robinson Bridgesouth of Malta. Te area is a popularlocation for paddlefish anglers andtheir families, and the public boat rampat the Kipp Recreation Area is fullyoperational. For questions about therecreation area and other surroundingfederal lands, contact the BLMLewistown office at 406-538-1900.CMR officials can be reached by calling

In addition, therecent moisture that we have had acrossthe state will definitely help kick-startthe upstream migration of paddlefish.”
Tere will no longer be aPaddlefish Hotline, like there has been
in the past, which provided anglers
information on river flows and harvestdata. “Anglers interested in river flowsshould use the USGS website forinformation, particularly the Landuskygauging station,” said Nagle. Te directlink for the USGS Landusky web pageis http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/
uv?site_no=06115200. For the Upper Missouri, atotal of 750 permits were availablefor paddlefish harvest. Successfulapplicants may harvest a fish anytimeduring the season, from May 1 throughJune 15. Tose anglers that harvest afish must mandatorily report their catchwithin 48 hours of harvest. Harvest canbe reported to creel clerks stationed inthe area (at James Kipp and Rock Creek
Campgrounds) or by phone at 877-397-9753 or 406-444-0356. Tose anglers not successful indrawing a harvest tag were issued asnag and release license. Additionally, anglers that did not participate in thepermit drawing that want to participatein the snag and release fishery can stillpurchase an Upper Missouri RiverPaddlefish Snag and Release Licenseonline, at an FWP office, or at any
license provider.
Te paddlefish season on theMissouri River below Fort Peck Damand in the Yellowstone River below themouth of the Bighorn River opens May15, and the archery fishing season forpaddlefish in the Fort Peck Dredge Cutsbelow Fort Peck Dam opens July 1. As
