From the Editor

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is staying safe.

At the March Committee meeting it was decided that the General Meetings would be cancelled and the printing of the magazine would be suspended until the Government advice changes for unnecessary gatherings.

The magazine will still be available via the club website – Nissan4x4vic.com.au/Magazines. This will be updated accordingly with the latest issue on the first of every month.

The committee also decided to introduce a new, non-elected role to the club to manage the club’s social media accounts. If anyone is interested in taking on this position please get in touch with the committee.

With all trips cancelled or postponed for the time being the next few iterations of the magazine are going to be quite sparse so please bare with me and please continue to send in trip reports if you have them.

Thanks and Regards,Alec SathiyamoorthyNissan 4x4 Club of Victoria Editor

The Club wish to sincerely thank the NOBLE PARK FOOTBALL CLUB for the use of their club rooms for committee meetings.

Day 9.

After looking at the map we decided to check out Brachina Gorge which turned out to be a good loop track. The road was gravel and easy driving. We even saw a Hyundai Getz getting around out there. There are lots of walking tracks you can do while on these trips but if the truck was allowed on them then that was our mode of transport.

On our way back to camp we decided to check out Sacred Canyon which has Aboriginal carvings in the rock faces. The walk was easy which took you through the canyon as you spotted various art works.

Day 10.

David and family had to go home early so Sarah and I headed out for an explore after lunch. A small hike was in order so we headed down to Arkaroo Rock Hike which is a 3km round trip and the half way point here is some Aboriginal cave paintings.

NISSAN NEWS April 2020 11 www.nissan4x4vic.com.au

It was a nice hike and was a great day for it. After we had some lunch, we headed up to Appealinna Ruins, on the way we went up to Hucks lookout, this looks out over the area.

Appealinna Ruins has various buildings with descriptions of what they were used for.

We saw couple of Kangaroos digging in the creek bed to get water for drinking and they were succeeding. It’s a harsh climate out here.

On our way back we checked out Stokes Hill lookout. This is a much bigger look out and it has a copper 3D plaque laid out of Wilpena Pound which is really good.

Just before the turn off to Wilpena Pound there is a tree called “The Cazneaux Tree”. It’s a tree that’s lasted the test of time in this harsh climate. There is a plaque there in which you can read.

As it was our last night here it was decided to have dinner in the restaurant. Meals are good prices and the booze is a good price as well. After a good meal it was time to prepare for a long day tomorrow.

Thank you for reading, more to come in the next issue...

What is GVM ?

GVM (gross vehicle mass) is the factory and legal maximum weight of the vehicle when loaded with people and cargo. Fitting accessories such as bull bars, winches, rear bars, roof racks and storage systems etc, can quickly use up the available payload allowance before the car is filled with passengers, food, camping equipment or tow ball weight.

Why do a GVM upgrade?

A GVM upgrade should be done for safety and legal reasons to protect yourself from traffic infringements, to maintain insurance cover, but most of all to maintain a safe and stable vehicle while touring.

ATOC

Reports –

President – Evan Wellard. There has been lots on in over the past

month and more in the coming month. Blaze Aid has seen many

groups from the club out there supporting the farmers recovering

from the recent fires. We also spent some time at the Ladner show

and this went well, producing a lot of interest in the Club. We also

had a working bee which achieved a lot towards maintaining and

improving the club property.

The Toyota club coming to the next Wandarrah weekend. Robert

Welsh has stepped down from sales position and Michael

Melenhorst is transition Trips over to Steve Moon who is taking it

over for the remainder of the year.

Vice President – Alex Glover. Good to see you all. We are taking

another group to Blaze Aid over the long weekend. We have

worked with Blaze Aid over the last three weekends but need to

keep going with this to support the farmers.

Treasurer – Brian Rollins. Membership fees will be going up from

$150 to $155 due to increased costs. A lot of the costs are due to

the club magazine. Not much income or expense over last month.

Full details on the web site.

Secretary – Position Vacant. Stephen Bloomer taking minutes.

Brian Rollins covering other areas - nothing to report.

Membership - Uwe Klietz. 207 members. 30 year membership

Glen Brook. 25 year membership John and Pam Tomlinson.

Driver Training – Stephen Bloomer. We have Driver Training at the

end of the month, but at this time we only have three students

booked in for this. If we do not get a few more people we will need

to cancel this weekend.

Editor – Alec Sathiyamoorthy. We have run out of trip reports and

cover photos. Please assist by supporting the magazine. Please

look as the sponsors of the magazine if you are going to purchase

anything.

Alec also knows of a Patrol for sale with a 6.5lt Chev conversion. If

you are interested, please make contact and he will pass on the

details.

We are running out of material and Alec asked us to consider the

option of not having a magazine. A lack of trip reports is making it

difficult and a lot of people are just sending photos into Facebook

etc. The magazine is costing us a lot and this is something to

consider.

The members spoke about the need for us to keep supporting our

sponsors and assist with getting new sponsors.

Land Coordinator – David Mills. Last working bee was really good

with high levels of support. There has been lots of work done to

keep the property going and we had a good social group. Next

working bee is 15th and 16th May. Please show your support for the

club by attending.

Sales – Position vacant.

Social – Robert Daily. Not Present

Publicity – Neil Bryson. It went well at the 4wd show and it created

a lot of interest when we took people around the demonstration

track. Next show is National 4x4 show in August. Please get on the

web site if you can assist

Web Master – Jorgen Skogstad. Not present.

Sgt at Arms – Dean Walker. Jim Muir filling in. Dean is away

fishing. Raffle and door prize were. We had lots of fines due to a

number of people getting into trouble out on the tracks.

Trips – Michael Melenhorst. Simpson trip and many of the others

are full, but there are still lots of trips available. Get onto the web

site for details. There are a number of pre-planned trips that we

need a trip leader.

Heath spoke about the Store Point Hut trip. We need your help so

please put up your hand to help with this cleanup weekend.

Michael is in the process of handing over to Steve Moon.

General Business.

Michael Hale spoke about a trip that they ran for Blaze Aid and the

amount of work that was done to support our farmers. 140 farms

were registered to get help via Blaze Aid and they were able to get

out and help about 9 farms that weekend. There is another camp

in March. Please register as they need our support.

Stephen Bloomer – a set of van keys have been found last

weekend. Contact Steve if you are missing a set.

Evan – Spoke about the rule 50.2.C. He read out the rule which

requires a person to own or have open access to a Nissan 4x4

before they can be on the executive of the Club and that this rule is

hindering us from filling these positions. Evan asked people to

come up and talk about the rule. A quick show of hands showed

that the members present are in favour of removing this rule with

nobody being against this change.

Heath - spoke about Blaze Aid and the need to fill out the FWDV

volunteer form, as this helps with funding of FWDV and this then

helps the clubs.

Michael Melenhorst - Wandarrah Weekend – the Toyota Land

Cruiser club is coming so we need a few more Nissans to show the

flag.

Jim Muir – Spoke about today’s paper there is a notice about the

enquiries into the fires for 2020 and ask people to get involved.

Leigh Williams stated that CFA and DELWP will be doing a back

burn in the area, but this will be next year. Later this year they will

do the assessment and burn in 2021.
