A Note From David Rev. David Christy Senior Minister 704-864-4371 ext. 222 [email protected] Monthly Newsletter of First United Methodist Church I April 2020 News at First News at First Dear Fellow Ministers, Thank you for working with us in these unprecedented times. It is strange to “do church” by not coming to church. However, the truth is that is EXACTLY why “church” exists: to equip disciples to go out into the world! So, one could say that we are doing church better than we ever have! Thank you for making our weekly worship time at 10 am a priority. We are offering ways for folks to keep their faith sharp throughout the week with our age level ministries (children, youth, and adults). It is exciting to see. Please pray through our worship texts over the next few weeks and stay flexible with us. Just as soon as our officials tell us we can safely worship together, we will do that! Here is a list of our upcoming worship: - Sunday, April 5: Matthew 21:1-11 (Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29 – Lay Reading) - Maundy Thursday: Online shared Communion at 7pm - Good Friday: Worship at 7:30pm - Easter Sunday: SONRISE Service at 6:30 am; Regular Worship at 10am - Sunday, April 19: 1 Peter 1:3-9 (Psalm 16 – Lay Reading) - Sunday, April 26: Luke 24:13-35 (Acts 2:1-4a, 36-41 – Lay Reading) This month we celebrate what we are all about: EASTER! Please keep our world and all of those suffering with COVID-19 in your prayers. What a great time to BE the Church! I look forward to being in ministry and mission with you in the month of April! In Christ’s Service, David

Dear Fellow Ministers, Thank you for working with us in these unprecedented times. It is strange to “do church” by not coming to church. THE FUMC SALVATION ARMY BREAKFAST MINISTRY AND COVID-19 The pandemic has hit the poor of Gaston County especially hard and our local Salvation Army corps as always is on the frontline providing needed support. Under the “stay at home order” for all of NC, the Salvation Army emergency shelter is deemed an essential operation and our intent is to continue serving breakfast there. However, a number of changes to our procedures have been made to help safeguard the health of both the servers as well as the homeless. - As always, participation by any team member is a personal decision. Certainly, anyone who is in a vulnerable category or who is ill is not to participate. - CDC Guidelines for personal protection are to be followed: -https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html - Breakfast is take-out only. There is no gathering or eating in the cafeteria. - Serving teams observe social distancing and continuous use of gloves. - Supplies are no longer picked up at the FUMC kitchen, but are delivered to the shelter prior to use. - A simplified menu is being served. This requires fewer team members and reduces preparation time significantly.I am proud of the commitment by the volunteers of FUMC who unselfishly give their time to this ministry by feeding a wholesome breakfast to those who have the least. Please contact me regarding any questions or suggestions.
