Thank you LEAH BEAN for planning the
Rabbit Hopping and Guinea Pig Class.
Gabbi Carpenter and Mel Brichta from
Clay County instructed youth in rabbit
agility (think dog show), showmanship,
and guinea pig care. Participants had a
blast teaching their rabbits to hop
while enjoying great info, refreshments
and some rabbit themed door prizes!
Check out Virtual Rabbit Workshop on
Thursday, April 16, 6pm via Zoom.
Message from Nichol
What a month! I think for many of us, our heads
are still spinning at the speed of change in our
world. I want to give you an overview from 4-H.
We are working remotely, so while our office doors
are closed, I am just a phone call, text or email
away. We have been instructed to postpone all in-
person 4-H activities until May 31. We are plan-
ning for summer activities...we hope they will all
be in person, but if restrictions are extended, we
will still have virtual opportunities with material
kits. Please know your families’ health is a priority
to me and the 4-H program! Stay well friends!

JUNE 1—NEW ID DATE FOR LIVESTOCK IN 4HONLINE NEW TAGGING
PROCEDURES
2020 LIVESTOCK ID DATE & TAGGING PROCEDURES
In an effort to keep our 4-H families healthy, Iowa 4-H has delayed the deadline
for Livestock IDs in 4hOnline. MONDAY, JUNE 1 (formerly May 15) is the new
deadline to have all of your animal IDs in 4hOnline for the BV County, Clay
County or Iowa State Fairs. New this year—you will need
to UPLOAD A PHOTO of your tagged livestock for all large
animal species (cattle, goats, sheep, swine, horse).
In-person weigh-ins have been cancelled and we ask 4-H families to call (712-730-5056),
text, or email ([email protected]) Nichol with your livestock tag needs. Please indicate the number of tags
needed for cattle, goats, sheep or swine and if a tagger is needed. She will be in the office on a weekly basis
to mail or make an appointment for pick-up for any requested tags. Taggers are available for check-out.
SPECIAL SHEEP SELECTION

patience as we sort out the details.

available until June 1—we will update you on developments with the Iowa State Fair.

with your livestock. Your beef ID info is already entered in 4hOnline.

4-H PEN PALS
Hello 4-H families! To help connect 4-Hers during this season of social isolation we are starting a 4-H Pen Pal Program here in Iowa! It is optional to participate in, but we hope that many of you will so you get the chance to connect with others in Iowa 4-H! 4-Hers will be matched with another 4-Her via email, and then they can decide how they’d like to communicate to their 4-H Pen Pal! You’ll have to contact each other via email first, but from there you can decide how you would like to communicate (email, letters, facetime, carrier pigeon, texts, etc.)! We will email out conversation prompts every Tuesday and Thursday to those who signed up to participate help keep the conversation going!
