We’re delighted to welcome Sherie Harding, who will walk us through the geologic story of Park City, “our treasure mountain home.” Besides enjoying all the outdoor activities that Park City offers, she taught geology at Westminster College and Utah Valley University. In the mid-90’s, Sherie had the unique daily experience of descending 1500 feet down the Ontario #3 shaft as tour guide for the Silver Mine Adventure. In addition to her teaching career, Sherie has worked for the Department of Energy nationally and as a field geologist internationally. Sherie’s tale begins 300 million years ago with the collection of sedimentary rock—layers that influence our local hiking, biking and skiing today. The next 120 million years built the Rocky Mountains around us. Last were the volcanoes that concentrated silver, lead and zinc. Then, Sherie points out, “…discovery, prospecting, and millionaires turned Park City into the West’s greatest silver camp!”. Come join us for what will be a very interesting adventure! After the program, usually around noon, we gather for lunch. Join us at Windy Ridge Café, 1250 Iron Horse Drive, Park City, UT 84060. This gives us more time to socialize! 1

410-979-1046  or [email protected]               (RSVP is necessary as space is limited) WINE: Rare Spanish Red Grapes   If you like wine and parties this event is for you.  Our monthly wine tastings are a great way to sample a range of wines and meet new friends.      This month we will be doing tastings a bit differently.   The wines chosen will be from lesser known grapes produced in Spanish or Portuguese Vineyards.   They are available at the Park City liquor store near the Market.  Some examples are:  •  Quinta do Romeu Tinto (Douro DOC)  •  Bergesio Collezione ‘Rufian’ Rufete •  Ailala-Ailaleo ‘Ailala Tinto’ •  Mesquida Mora ‘Trispol’ •  Sexto Elemento Bobal •  Bodegas Can Blau •  La Perla del Priorat Noster Inicial, Priorat DOC, Spain The price point will be under $30.00.  Each participant has the option of bringing either two bottles of a lower priced wine, one for the hostess and one to share or, one bottle of a pricier option again to share.   ALSO, everyone brings an hors d’oeuvre that will pair well with the wine. (No chips and dips, please.) This will be a blind tasting and each guest will complete a tasting sheet.  Near the end of the evening, the scores will be tallied and the bottles will be revealed.   You never know, one of these wines may end up being one of your favorites.     ALSO, we are presently looking for someone to host our May Wine Tasting event.  If anyone is interested, please contact your Wine Tasting Chair listed below.       Your Wine Tasting chair (for the Winter) is Robin Fravel ([email protected]).
