Fire Department Recognizes Cambrian of Lyon

Per Lyon Township Fire Chief Ken Van Sparrentak: “We responded to Cambrian for a reported structure fire, with smoke in the building and alarms activated. Upon arrival, we found the staff working hard on evacuating all the residents. They were even able to supply a head count of all people. It was also below zero wind chills.” “Once the entry area was deemed safe to shelter there, all residents were moved inside. Again, the staff was very diligent in making sure everyone was accounted for. They were able to tell us that one person was missing, that we later found with family. Once inside, the staff checked on all residents and also vital signs. They ensured all residents were warm and were handing out warm beverages.” “Their quick response and professionalism was top notch.” We are proud to have such a compassionate and devoted business in Lyon Township. Thank you, Cambrian!

2019 Concrete Award

The Michigan Concrete Association’s 2019 Concrete Awards were held on February 21, 2019. The award for Municipal Parking Lot/Flatwork went to Lyon Township for the parking lot at Fire Station #2. Michigan Concrete Association states: “Lyon Township has seen significant development over the past few decades and was in great need of an additional polling location to accommodate its growing population. In 2018, the Township let a project that included concrete rehabilitation and a parking lot expansion for its Fire Station #2. The project was let as an alternate bid, with both concrete and asphalt pavement options. Based upon GM & Sons competitive concrete bid, the owner saw the value in concrete versus asphalt. The overall project included phases for both demolition and installation, during which access to the building needed to be maintained at all times. In addition, the Fire Station doors needed 24/7 access for indoor truck parking. Close to 5,000 square yards of new concrete was placed at the facility and included a new parking lot as well as updated ADA accessible ramps and sidewalks. GM & Sons worked closely with Lyon Township, Civil Engineering Solutions (CES), and the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) to assure all project requirements were met and that it was completed on time. The result is a functional and attractive upgrade to Fire Station #2 that can now conveniently serve as an additional polling station for the residents of Lyon Township.”
