Buffy Sainte-MarieThe Bailey Theatre and CFWE Radio are excited to bring the Camrose community a rare treat when Canadian icon Buffy Sainte-Marie takes the stage on Thursday, May 24 at the Bailey Theatre.

Buffy was born on the Piapot Plains Cree First Nation Reserve in the Qu’Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan and grew up in Massachusetts. Since her ground breaking debut album in 1964 It’s My Way, the Cree singer/songwriter has been a trailblazing, tireless advocate, innovative artist and agitator of the status quo. Her achievements as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, social activist, educator, philanthropist and visual artist are truly unique. A humanitarian, she has toured the world working tirelessly for decades to protect and honor indigenous communities.

Buffy Sainte-Marie has written pop standards sung and recorded by the likes of Barbra Streisand, Cher, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Donovan, Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. She penned “Universal Soldier” the definitive antiwar anthem of the 20th century.

Upcoming Acts in June:June 1 and 2 the Bailey Theatre is happy to be involved with upcoming Jaywalkers Jamboree selling 50/50 tickets and keeping lights rocking on the main street at night. Friday Night come and check out Echo Nebraska, all the way from Vancouver. Their first full-length album will be released at the Bailey Theatre. On Saturday from Vancouver, GIVOL TALENT GROUP CANADA brings HYSTERIA of Def Leppard and the rock of ages that is the music of Def Leppard to the legendary Bailey Theatre with special guests; GODFREY BLAQUE. Show starts at 7:30 PM; Tickets are $45.

Friday June 8 and Saturday June 9: The Prairie West Fiddle Contest

Last year’s fiddle contest drew a sold out crowd. We are excited to welcome back the finest fiddlers from across Western Canada and beyond, to showcase their skills and compete for generous prizes. Friday night guarantees a special treat as musicians and contestants put on a Novelty Showcase and Old Time Dance. A truly entertaining evening with general cabaret style seating; tickets only available at the door. Saturday will highlight individual contestants during the day as well as special performances by acclaimed back up musicians. The top 3 fiddlers in each age category will be invited back for a sensational Championship Show featuring performances by the judges: Calvin Vollrath, Allison Granger and Jarred Albright. Saturday tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the box office and will include a full day of unforgettable fiddle entertainment.

Bailey Board Members:David Francouer

David R. Francoeur was born in Camrose and is a fifth generation Camrosian. Raised in Lethbridge, he returned to Camrose to obtain his B.A. at Augustana. David furthered his education at the University of Calgary and University of Montreal, before obtaining his law degree at the University of Wales in the United Kingdom. David articled and worked at Swist and Company in Edmonton in 1996. As an in-house counsel, he worked for various public companies in London, Dublin and Singapore from 1996 through 2005. David is a member of the Camrose Elks Club, Camrose Rotary, and is a Covenant Health Foundation and Community Board member David is owner and managing partner at Knaut Johnson Francoeur LLP in Camrose. Currently, David and his wife, Sharon, are raising three children. He is currently the President of the Bailey Theatre Society.

Carmen MasonI moved to Camrose from Foam Lake Saskatchewan in 1945. I attended school in Camrose, graduating from Camrose High School in 1962. I owned and operated United Farmers Bulk Fuel Agency from 1963 to 1980. I obtained my real estate license in August of 1980 and enjoyed the connection with clients and community until retirement in September, 2017. I have been fortunate to be part of many bands throughout my life. I am an original member of the Camrose Rock ‘n Roll Band Xtatix which has performed on and off in the area for over 50 years. Recently, we played for the New Year’s Eve party at the Bailey in 2017. I continue to be a strong supporter of Camrose with memberships in the Camrose Chamber of Commerce and the Camrose Rotary Club. I feel the Bailey Theatre is a vital part of the community and will do my part in promoting and supporting its continued success.
