April Program
Quilting
without Wilting
With
Joe Fabrizio
Many great values.
Bring a shopping bag
and lots of Cash!!!!
Dear Quilters, April is Yard Sale month. Besides items from those who have rented a table, we will also have donated items left from the Quilt Show Boutique. If there are any tables not yet spoken for, please get in touch with Alma Tilley to reserve one. Our speaker will be a fitness professional who will get us all in shape for Quilting without Wilting. This will be a good way to get us all started in making those quilts for our 2020 Quilt Show. The Guild will also be presenting a check to The Toymakers of Pasco County at the April meeting. This is all the money received from the 2018 Opportunity Quilt. Money from our 2019 Opportunity Quilt will be donated to SmileFaith, a Veteran's dental clinic in New Port Richey. Quilt Show chairs, Janie Franco and Kim Darling, led a wrap-up meeting for our 2018 Quilt Show. MonaLin Solan, admissions chair, reported that we had 1,920 guests at the show. Financials for the show are still being tabulated but it looks like we did very well. Details soon. A huge thank you to the head of each committee for filling out their reports. Rose Ann Verheyen, Vice President, was instrumental in this endeavor. She will compile them with the end result being a Procedure Manual for each Quilt Show committee to use in the future. We are also working on a Quilt Show budget. Believe it or not, we are now going to start gearing up for the 2020 Quilt Show. We need to find Quilt Show chairs for multiple committees, set the dates and name the show. Do you have a Quilt Show name? Please let a board member know. We have several submitted already. If you would like to chair a specific committee, please speak to a board member. Betsy Turner has agreed to chair Education. Thank you, Betsy. Since the renovations to the Rec Center are complete, we can again use the facility for education classes. At Demo-Mania (our June meeting) our goal is to get as many members who wish to teach a class, to setup what they will teach. Members can view what will be taught then sign up for the class. After the meeting, we will then work with the teachers as to when and where the classes will be held and they will contact those who have signed up. FYI classes taught by a member are $20. FYI for teachers, you will get $18 per student. Those who wish to teach a class need to get in touch with Rhonda Koning or myself ASAP. Please consider teaching a class. We have so many talented quilters who need to share their knowledge. Elaine Plourde has agreed to chair the Coffee Committee. Our goal here is to get a different member each month to come in early to start the coffee pots. Please let her know when you would like to do this. It's just the coffee and hot water. You would not be responsible for the yummy donut holes, milk or half and half. Please volunteer so we may all enjoy a cup of coffee together at our general meeting. The 2019 Quilters' Escape is now FULL with a waiting list. Thanks to Judy Nichols and her team. I am running out of room here. Our newsletter Editor, Aileen Kline (who BTW does a super, duper job, right?), thinks I might write too much but there is a lot to say!! Look for the map to Genesis Prep School (in the May newsletter), for our June and July meetings. New members, don't hesitate to ask questions. Not even room to sign my name properly. So, sew a piece of your heart in every quilt, Pam

Amazing! In less than an hour we completely filled the 50 slots available for our 2019 retreat with checks, cash and credit cards. I swear... no one generates receipts faster than Pat Herrmann! Carol Spence keyed in all the data from the registration forms before the end of the meeting. Great work, ladies! Thank you to our courteous members for your patience and being ready with completed forms and payment in hand. We now have a waiting list of about 10 people who want to attend the retreat if a spot opens up. February is a long way away, and many things can happen causing cancellations. If that occurs, wait-listers will be contacted in the same order their registrations were received. This means everyone on the waiting list must turn in a completed registration form. If you want to attend the retreat but haven't registered yet, you can get a registration form on the website (at the bottom of the Members' Only page). It was also printed in the March Newsletter. Print off the registration form, fill it out, and mail it to Carol Spence (39820 Hwy 19 Lot #1, Tarpon Springs FL 34689). DO NOT SEND MONEY WITH THE FORM. You will be asked for payment later if an opening occurs. If you can't get a form online and want one mailed to you, please call Judy Nichols (727-810-9464). In the next few months, the Retreat Committee will be finalizing plans and gathering information to put in your Retreat Packet at the January meeting. Don't forget if you are paying installments, the next payment is due at the May meeting. Anyone wanting to make a payment before then using a credit card, please let Judy Nichols know before the meeting so that she has the credit card reader with her. Thanks. A HUGE thank you to all of the Quilt Show committee chairpersons for your
OUTSTANDING final reports! Your attention to details will be extremely helpful.
Each of you earned an A+. Way to Go!!!!!

Kudos to the Admission Table Volunteers
I would like to thank all the ladies who volunteered to work at the Admissions table this past
Quilt Show. You were all great! Everyone was polite, smiling, helpful and just plain
wonderful to our guests. You all looked really spiffy in those cute aprons, I might add.
Thank you for making my job so much easier by being on time, being flexible and working so
well together. My deepest gratitude to all of you!
~MonaLin
Hats off to everyone for your outstanding support of the Basket Walk!!!! The 40 baskets went
to good homes. With your support, as well as the people who came to the show and took a
chance, this new addition to the Quilt Show brought in $3,200. Way to GO ladies!

WPQG Scholarship Committee Report With the usual good WPQG teamwork, your scholarship committee (Merna Allen, Ginger Messer, Donna Herrick, Barbara Manning, Pat Hazellief, and Libbie Ellis) have chosen two worthy recipients of a financial boost toward their further education in the Arts. Both have a financial need for help. Both have challenged themselves academically and still maintained high academic standings, and both have been involved in school/extra-curricular activities and held part-time jobs. These kids have what it takes to succeed with a little help. Lyndzee Gugel is graduating from Wesley Chapel High School and has been very active backstage with the thespians there. She participated in a Fashion Design Internship at the Dali Art Museum, designing a costume based on the theme “Old Age, Adolescence and Infancy”, which won the Best Dali Interpretation. It was exhibited in the museum for a month, and is now on tour to promote the museum. Alen Jimenez is graduating from the International Baccalaureate program at Land O’Lakes High School and has been recognized by his peers as a leader. Alen has always felt great fulfillment when drawing. He’s particularly interested in the affect of Art in the art of storytelling, as with cartoons, comic books and animation. He aspires to attend the Ringling College of Art and Design with the goal of learning film animation. These students will be honored at an awards banquet in April, sharing the dinner table with our WPQG representative(s). Libbie Ellis, committee chair (727) 943-0424
The 2018 Quilt Show Boutique was a smashing success! New friends and great memories were
gained. The final report was given with detailed information to make the 2020 Boutique even
more successful. The benefits are great and we are now looking for another person to Chair that
position. If you are interested contact Pam King. 727-376-0555. Thank you to all the wonderful
people who helped out in this year’s Boutique. You are the ones who made it a success.

Hello again and welcome! Our March meeting was attended by 130 members who either signed in or were recognized by membership committee. It seems that the people who arrive early often forget to sign in. We were also visited by 6 guests that I know of, and 14 more quilters joined the Guild. This brings the “known” total for the March meeting to 150. The new members “Class of 2018” is now roughly 35 people. That's a voting block even in a Guild of 250. The names of the newest new members are: Cindy Rouse, Karen Vanhorenweder, Cathleen Tokish, Dominique Switzer, Maritza Davila, Helen Stanaitis, Nancy Langley, Ross Broda, Kimberly Nappier, Sharon Mader, Paula Soyke, Lois Bradshaw, Martha Tucker, Sue Kolczak, Linda Williams, Wendy Spence, Jeanine Rawlings, Carol White, Sally Klingensmith, Claudia Ward, Janice Ryan, Gracie Evens, Annorah Koning, Dorothy Nacierio, Juli Ormsby, Lori Romanosky, and Eileen Maynard. Now remember that the spelling of your name was sometimes deduced from what you wrote in oddly colored ink on a bumpy table. Please do not be miffed if I got it wrong. I've got a lot of things going against me here. If all goes according to plan, your name tags will be on the Membership table at the April meeting and if the directory has not gone to press yet there is still time to get your picture taken. Speaking of the directory, at last count 56 of you soon-to-be former members have not yet renewed your member-ship. Many of you were working on the Quilt Show and I'm sure renewal just got lost in the shuffle. However, it now be time to shake a leg, get a move on, beat feet, etc., and get those forms and money to membership. Thank you and hurry!

Thank you ladies for the great response to our food bank. April is for Living Faith Church. They provide pack-a-sack for Shrader Elementary School. Please be generous as the need has more than tripled since this service began. I just heard that the plastic caps being collected have already provided 74 wheelchairs for mobility challenged children. What a wonderful feeling that we can help so many with such a simple effort and keep a lot of plastic out of the landfills. The domestic abuse shelter was very happy to receive 4 bags of personal items (toothbrushes, lotions, shampoo, etc.) that I took there after our last meeting.
Please keep up the good work bringing in the following items: Plastic Bottle caps from water, detergent, peanut container lids, coffee cans, chips etc. These will go to provide wheelchairs for children with mobility issues. Metal Can pop tabs from soda, veggies, beans, etc., for The Shriners’ Children’s hospital. Box Top School Coupons from cake mixes, cereal boxes etc., for St. James Bishop Larkin’s School.
Small sample bottles of lotion, soap,
shampoo & conditioner, and toothpaste, like
you get at hotels when traveling. These will
help the domestic abuse shelter.
Please tell all your friends about these causes and they may want to help as well. It is greatly appreciated in these trying times. Thanks for your help and all you do.

Deborah Goff introduced the Guild members to Brazilian
Needlework, which is a type of surface embroidery with hand
stitches, that uses rayon thread instead of cotton or wool.
Many members that took this class were impressed and
overjoyed with this new way of embroidering. It is very
3 dimensional. These pictures do not do this artform justice.
Ode to My Wife the Quilter She learned to quilt on Monday. Her stitches all were very fine. She forgot to thaw out dinner. so we went out to dine. She quilted miniatures on Tuesday. she says they are a must. They really were quite lovely. But she forgot to dust. On Wednesdays it was a sampler. She says stippling's fun. What highlights! What Shadows! But the laundry wasn't done. Her patches were on Thursday - Green, yellow, blue and red. I guess she was really engrossed; She never made the bed. Several members have requested that we refrain from using perfume when we
are in confined spaces, such as Contractors, workshops, and small groups.
Unfortunately, as we all get older, health conditions are not conducive to
perfumes and can cause breathing problems, migraines, etc.,
so please keep that in mind.
Thank you.
Editors Note: Articles can be submitted in the following formats: Email, docx , XL, Pdf
message. I do prefer docx. It is the easiest to cut, paste and manipulate.
I currently cannot open Wps. files. Screen shots are not acceptable.
I cannot cut and paste these because when they are enlarged they are illegible.
