Happy Spring, Everyone!

I hope you all had some good time to either rest or adventure during spring break; it has been fun listening to all of the stories the stu-dents have shared since they returned. During drama, Mrs. Jeanette had us play Charades: Spring Break Edition, and it was a blast watching the students act out some of their adventures! After that, we played Charades: Spring Break, What I Wish I’d Done Edition—students chose and acted out things like kayaking, tennis games, shopping, four-wheeling, bowling, swimming, and playing at the beach. As I sat there watching them act out their favorite activities, I was struck by how lucky our students are to have families and caretakers that provide them with so many opportunities and also how much our students love and appreciate the quality time with their loved ones. Thank you fam-ilies, caretakers, and friends, for supporting these wonderful men and women; we hope you all know how appreciated you are.

Congratulations to all of our artists and Sarah Bradley on another successful art show! It is such a joy to see our students have the opportunity to express themselves through art and to have the chance to share it with the community. Our students also enjoyed the chance to act as ambassa-dors with students from Silverdale Academy, clients from Life Bridges, and various community members. These opportunities to be ambassadors will carry on into April as Allen Clark, several students, and I go out to visit local high schools. During these visits, we give a brief overview of our school’s programming, we share pictures of our beautiful facility, the student ambassadors share about their experiences at Trousdale School and on their job sites, we play a few numbers from recent musicals, and finally we (as a team) take time to answer questions from students, their families, and faculty members. It is a fantastic activity for recruitment, and we are proud that some of our student ambassadors get to be part of this process.

Each semester, our students have the opportunity to participate in a class at Lee University. This Spring, led by Mr. Sandoval, we will participate in a history unit based on “The Royals.” The stu-dents will take time to focus on royalty and monarchies from Great Britain and around the world, focusing on traditions, history, govern-ments, and learning how one becomes royalty.

Students are once again thrilled to be back into the swing of hanging out with their Best Buddies! We continue to be grateful for the time these college-aged men and women dedicate to developing friendships

with and creating programming for our students. Just a reminder that the final club meeting of the year will take place on Thursday April 19th; this would be a great opportunity for students to make a card for their buddy to thank them for spending time with them this year.

~Ms. Stephanie

This semester has been wonderful so far! The students have been learning so much in math class! For the past few weeks, the students have been sharpening their addition and subtraction skills. We have especially been working on carrying and borrowing, and as always, the students are so enthusiastic about learning new things! We will be working on our math as-sessments during the month of April, and I am so excited to see how much growth the students have made this semester.

We have enjoyed walking the runway in preparation for the 5k/1-mile fun walk. The students have been pushing themselves to walk further and further each time! My group has enjoyed fast-walking, and even running at times!

Now that spring is upon us, I am making plans to start the Trousdale School garden! Students will start working the soil and cleaning up our garden beds in Vocational Lab with Leah, and in Life Skills Class, we will start some early seeds! I look forward to our garden this year and look forward to see-ing the product of the students’ hard work.

~-Mrs. Cassie

What a fun month we had in March with our Trousdale School 2018 Winter Olympics! How much fun was this event?! Thank you to all of the parents and judges that came out to support our school, and thank you to Ocoee Middle School and Black Fox Elementary for letting us bor-row some of your equipment! I am so proud of everyone’s positive behavior—great job, students! Congratulations to France for taking the Gold, Canada for taking on the Silver, and Germany for taking the Bronze! We have had several beautiful days that has allowed us to go to the Cleveland Greenway to walk and run in order to train for the upcoming Bobcat Boogie Color Run and Walk event! The stu-dents and staff are so excited about this fun day! We also have several other events coming up this month. On April 27th, we will have Billy Cabrera come to Trousdale School to teach us some awesome line dancing moves. Also, starting Monday April 30th, we will be going to the Cleveland Country Club to prac-tice for our Putt-Putt Tournament, which will be held on May 21st. On that day, students will pack a picnic lunch and we will eat at the Country Club together—then the competitive fun begins at 1:15 with our 2018 Trousdale Putt-Putt Tournament! If you would like to volunteer to help keep scores, please let me know! Save the date: on April 27, we will be heading to a great evening of dinner and a Lookouts game! More information will be sent home closer to this event. -Mrs. Leah

Congratulations to Torrie Stephens on her new job! Torrie will be working as a part-time caregiver for her grandmother four days a week! We are so excited for Torrie’s new job and all of her new tasks and responsibilities! This month in Vocational Lab, we will be working on outdoor maintenance. This will include tilling, laying soil, mulching, and pulling weeds to make

room for new growth! We will also be focusing on vehicle mainte-nance—this will center around detailing a car (washing, vacuuming, clean-ing seats, windows, tires, etc.). Vehicle maintenance will also include checking the oil and tire pressure.

What a wonderful response to our third annual “From My Perspective” Art Show! We began this journey in 2016 with two goals: to give artists with disabilities the op-portunity to show their work alongside the work of their peers, and to support the arts in our community. This year we were proud to showcase over 150 artworks from 68 artists across East Tennessee and North Georgia. We displayed the work of artists from Trousdale School, Life Bridges, Signal Centers Adult Services, Orange

Grove Center, H’ART Gallery, as well as many schools in our community: Walker Valley High School, Central High School, Grace Baptist Academy, Silverdale Baptist Academy, and Lee University. Over the course of the week we welcomed 200 visitors from the community to see the show! Congratulations, artists, for your exceptional work! Congratulations also to Jacob Atkins, Ben Suhrbier, Cezar Mort, Mary Mathias-Dickerson, Fran Lawrence, and Makenzie McGee, who received honorable mentions; and congratulations to Bradley Wilson, Jessica Johnson, Molley Petty, and Meg Best, who were honored with Silver Easel Awards. Thank you for your support and participation in the show. We look forward to reaching even more artists, stu-dents, and community members next year for the fourth annual “From My Perspective!” ~Mrs. Sarah
