Club President’s Message

Editor’s Desk

Dear Friends,

April was a landmark month in the history of our club. We celebrated our 25th silver jubilee charter night with a grand event at the venue MATA HARI. We felicitated all our past presidents with great pomp and pageantry and presented them with a 25th anniversary momento. A big thank you to Amith Dholakia and Sanjay Wadhwa for compering the show which was very entertaining.

We also presented momento to all the board members of this year and also to all members and Ann’s who have helped in organizing the clubs various activities during the year. It was a great funfilled evening with casinos, dancing and super food. Special thanks to all the members and Ann’s who helped organize the event. Dipa Dholakia, Yakuta Rassai, Aditi Jain, Sharmila Wadhwa, Nita Dhruva, Rimona Prabhu and Mariya Nagree. Sincere gratitude to Rtn Sunnil Mehra for designing the beautiful trophies which were given to Past presidents and board members, with the names inscribed in them. It was an honor to have the Rotary International Zonal Director alongwith District dignatories attend our event. It is heartening to see the programs being attended by members and Ann’s in such large numbers.

On Sunday, 2nd April 2017, our club participated in the Polio NID at 2nd October colony. Rtn Munaf Bandukwala and myself attended the program. Food and water bottles were distributed.

On Friday, 7th April 2017, our club co-hosted the legal literacy seminar organized by the Rotary club of Mumbai Malabar Hills.

On Saturday, 8th April 2017, Annapoorna food donation was done at the Jalaram Bappa trust where our members Bal and Paresh were present.

On Saturday, 15th April 2017, our club co-hosted District Literacy team under the leadership of PP Sunnil Mehra, where 1000 teachers will be trained over 15 days in batches.

Our club conducted a dental and eye check up camp at Dreamz Orphanage, Goregaon, on Sunday, 16th April 2017 It was conducted by Dr Ummulkiram, daughter of member Lamiya and Shabbir Unwala, Dr Yusuf Unwala, father-in-law of Rtn Lamiya, Dr Bhavna, and Dr Munira, optometrist. 50 children were checked for their teeth and eyes and follow up with the children by the doctors at their respective clinics. Snacks were distributed by Rtn Lamiya and Ann Yakuta Hussain Rassai, Shabbir Unwala and myself were present.

On Saturday, 22nd April 2017, our club served special dinner to 50 kids of Smt Kamla Mehta Dadar school for the blind. The dinner was sponsore by an angel donor.

Seema Agarwal and Mariya Nagree visited the old age home.

Gunita and Yakuta had the soft skills workshop at the YMCA on Friday, 21st April 2017, assisted by Rtn Urvashi Taparia.

On Friday, 21st April 2017, Rtn Harshit and Bhavna Doshi hosted a Fireside at their residence at Phoenix Towers. Speaker was our very own AG Devang Goradia. 25 members and Anns attended the meeting. It was followed by excellent food and fellowship. Sincere thanks to them for hosting the fireside.

April end, 28th, culminated in another fellowship program where the club members and anns went for a movie Bahubaali 2. Once again a very large attendance.

Sincere thanks to members and Anns for their participation, dedicated work and the time and effort taken by each one of them to ensure that the projects and programs are carried out with great enthusiasm and succesfully.

Programmes:

Charter Night Celebrations

On Sunday, 9th April 2017 the Club celebrated its 25th Charter Night celebrations and Shukriya function at Mata Hari, Atria. Sincere gratitude to Rtn Sunnil Mehra for designing such beautiful trophies for our 25th year and getting our Charter inscribed on with our personal names.

A big thank you to also Rtn PP Amit Dholakia and Rtn PP Sanjay Wadhwa for compering the event which was very entertaining.

Fireside Meeting

On Friday, 21st April 2017 at 8pm the Club had organized the Fifth Fireside Meeting followed by dinner which was hosted by Rtn Harshit and Bhavna Doshi at their residence at Phoenix Tower, Lower Parel. Speaker was our Rtn PP Devang Goradia. 25 Members and Spouses attended the Fireside. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed the lovely ambience of their garden.

Paediatric Heart Surgeries – Total Sponsored 78A total of 78 paediatric heart surgeries have been performed in the current year.

Polio NidOn Sunday, 2nd April 2017 from 9am onwards our Club participated in Polio NID

Dental and Eye Check Up Camp at Dreamz Home OrphanageOur Club conducted a Dental and Eye Check-up Camp at Dreamz Home Orphanage, Goregaon East on Sunday, 16th April 2017.

Sponsored a Burns Patient During Operation Restore Camp 16Our Club sponsored one burns patient at Rs 30,000/- during the Operation Restore Camp 16 held on Saturday, 29th April 2017.

Rotary Annapoorna Project at Jalaram Bapa Trust, 2 Balwadis at Mumbai Central, Sec School, Dreamz Home Orphanage and Kamla Mehta School for the BlindOn Saturday, 8th April 2017, our Club had organized Rotary Annapoorna Project at Jalaram Bappa Trust, Bhuleshwar.

Sponsoring Nutrition Requirements of 50 Kids of Sec SchoolRtn Bharat Shah is sponsoring the nutrition requirements of 50 kids of SEC School for 10 months.

Sponsoring Meals for 66 Kids of Dreamz Home OrphanageThe Club sponsors meals for 66 kids of Dreamz Home Orphanage every month.

Sponsoring Special Dinner for the kids of Smt Kamla Mehta Dadar School tor the BlindOn Saturday, 22nd April 2017, our Club served special dinner to 50 kids of Smt Kamla Mehta Dadar School for the blind.

Adopted two Balwadis in Mumbai Central area and sponsoring meals for themWe have already adopted two Balwadis in Mumbai Central area. There are 40 kids per balwadi and the cost of Midday Meal per day is Rs 720/-. The Club provides Midday Meals to the 80 kids on school days every month for 10 months.

Distributed of 700 Water Bottles to 5 Municipal SchoolsThe Club distributed 700 water bottles to 5 municipal schools

Soft Skills Training Program being held for Underprivileged Children at 10 locations at YMCAThe Soft Skills Training Program was conducted by Annes Yakuta Rassai and Gunita Chadda at YMCA on Friday, 21st April 2017. They were assisted by Rtn Urvashi Taparia. There were about 100 ladies very eager to learn and participate. It was a very interactive and satisfying session.

Starting Vocational Council and Employment Centre for the grown up kids of Dreamz Home OrphanageThe Dreamz Home Orphanage is a home for the homeless at Goregoan and is an initiative of RCBP since 2007. It is a home to 66 children many of which were picked up from the streets of Mumbai and are given English education, meals, shelter and bringing a meaning and purpose to their life. The orphan boys reside at their other centre in Malad.

Interact Clubs – Meetings are held with the Interactors once every monthOn Thursday, 20th April 2017, our Club had organized a fabulous session with the Interactors of Beacon High School on brain mapping and understanding your potentials with finger prints, which as per scientific research is a guaranteed biometric.

Rotary Youth ExchangeRCBP has sent 3 RYE students as well as hosted 3 RYE students.

RY 2016-17

(1) GODS Abode” - Rehabilitation Center for The Disabled in Airoli – (GG1744667)

Proposed Project Cost - $ 65,000: Term Gift (from Rtn. Prakash Chawla) $ 30,000 (already sent) + Club contribution (from Rtn. Amit Dholakia) $ 10,000 + DDF $ 10,000 + TRF Match $ 15,000

The Global Grant Application has been submitted to The Rotary Foundation for their final review.

(2) DEEDS Project – School for the Deaf, Dehradun. (GG1745130)

The project cost is US$ 65,000/-.

The money has been raised by DEEDS with foreign club contribution. R. C. Kowloon Golden Mile: $ 12,000 + R. C. Bombay Pier $ 18,000 + DDF $ 10,000 + TRF matching $ 25,000.

Project for rehabilitation of Deaf children has been approved by The Rotary Foundation for USD 65,000.

(3) Paediatric Heart Surgeries Project (GG1749646)

Under the Second GG GG1749646, our Club contribution $18,000, Contribution from RC of Chicago $14,000, District 3141 DDF $10,000, RC Jalna Central $2000, RID 3132 DDF $2500, matching from World Fund $29,500. Total project value $76,000.

The Grant has been approved by The Rotary Foundation in a record time of less than a week. The Club is sponsoring surgeries for 33 kids under the age group of five years at Kokilaben Hospital.

(4) Fourth Global Grant Project

The project is under consideration and will be decided by this month end.

Multispeciality Medical Centre “Saifee Medicare Centre” supported by RCBP at SuratAn amount equivalent to USD 7500 was sent to them for treatment of poor and needy.
