PRESIDENT’S CORNER

OF THE Month

1st Place ~ Diana Galek

“What a Beauty”

2nd Place ~ Joan Langdon

“Pear on a Wood Table”

3rd Place ~ Irene Donato

“Mission Carmel”

Artwork of the Month Rules

1. You must have attended 3 meetings as a

dues paid member in the last 12 calendar months.

2. A two dimensional art must be framed or on

gallery wrapped canvas must be 1 ½ “minimum.

3. If you have had your art critiqued at that meeting,

you may not also enter it in “Artwork of the Month.”

4. If you are a first, second, or third place

winner, please remain after the meeting to

be photographed for the Art Beat.

5. Each artist may win first place only

once a year (January to November).

6. All monthly first place winners will bring a piece of

artwork to the December meeting to vie for “Artist of

the Year.” Monthly winners may enter any piece of

work they wish in the December “Artist of the Year”

contest. This allows sales and gives artists the

freedom to exhibit what they feel is their best effort.

Dear SAL Members,

Everyone seemed to enjoy Red

Rohall’s presentation and eye-

catching paintings. Thanks, Red,

for an interesting and

informative talk! Particularly

appreciated was his focus on

what works for him as an artist

rather than what everyone

“should” do.

Happenings!

CALL TO ARTISTS !!! A local organization will be hosting a Hot Rod Car Show at the Pavilions on the weekend of March 26. This event will be held right outside our gallery in the parking lot, and we are really looking forward to it as it is estimated to bring 1,000's of visitors

to the Pavilions Center. Do you paint cars? Do you draw cars? We are looking for artists to demo, to show, and to sell their work that weekend right out in front of the gallery, on the sidewalk! You pick the hours you want to participate!

Call the gallery at 602-870-7610, and sign up for a spot on the sidewalk.

Congratulations to Judy Delmonico-Roll for winning1st Place in Acrylic for her painting "Hand-Picked" in the Glendale Arts Council's 48th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition.

March winner of Artwork of the Month at GVAL Kai with 1st place „Simply Treasures’ and 2nd place with ‘Treasures Remembered’

Both are of still life in acrylic on canvas.

A paid teaching position(s) for a drawing class & a watercolor class will become available at the end of April. Contact Washington Activity Center, 2240 W. Citrus Way, Phoenix, AZ 602-262-6971 OR http://phoenix.gov/ PRL/wac.html for further information.

Sue Hunter had paintings accepted in the Mid-Southern Watercolorists in Arkansas and a painting in the AAG Exhibit.

Whoa……Kudos to Pat Beans!! Chandler Presbyterian Church honored Pat Beans with an art exhibit and reception. We cleared out all the seats in the sanctuary and set up a "gallery". Linda Phillips, Judy Delmonico-Roll and Alan Arne also showed a few pieces. It

was a great reception. We had a good turnout. AND...get ready for this.... Pat sold ten paintings. Judy and Linda each sold one also. Then on Sunday morning in church, Pat sold another one.

And Monday morning got a commission for yet another. Was a great weekend! [Hey, we know who to go to for advice on selling now.] Congratulations, Pat!

I‟m a local artist, but not a member of a guild. I‟m moving & need to downsize. I have some very large rolls of canvas to sell & thought someone in your group may be interested. One of the rolls is 10 feet X 14 yds (42 feet) (420 sq ft). The other is 8 feet X 6 yds (18 feet) (144 sq ft). They are brand new, never were unrolled or anything. I cut 4 yds off of the larger roll, but the remaining 14 yds were never unrolled. Both have been stored inside & away from light, heat or moisture & both are in the very thick protective rolls they shipped in. Both are Fredrix acrylic white primed. The cheapest I‟ve seen the large roll was $878, & the cheapest I‟ve found the small roll was $240. I‟m asking $600 (save $278) for the large roll & $170 (save $70) for the small roll, so it would be a pretty significant discount for anyone who‟s looking to buy. If interested, please e-mail or call 623-694-3282. Thank you so much, Dana Kindred
