Golf season is in full swing
The Howells-Dodge golf team is off to a great start. The Jaguars
have been practicing hard and it is showing on the golf course. The golf
team finished 2nd out of twelve teams in the Patriot invite on April 13.
Nolan Lund finished in 10th place out of about 60 golfers. Along with
that tournament the golfers have competed at the four team tournament
in Stanton, a triangular in Blair, and a dual with Humphrey St. Francis.
They performed well at all of their meets. They competed in North
Bend on April 19. This will be followed by the North Bend
Invitational. Good Luck to all the golfers!

Students are winners at the academic contest
On March 30th, the Jaguars attended the NECC Scholastic Day.
Many students took assigned tests and scored in the top of their
categories. Congratulations to the following students for placing in the
top 3 at the Academic Contest; Justin Bazata - 3rd place Small
Engines, Nolan Lund - 2nd place Physics, Mitch Yosten - 2nd place
Foods and Nutrition, Justin Evert - 2nd place Computer Literacy,
Carter Bracht - 3rd place Chemistry, Emily Ritzdorf - 2nd place Art
History, Kelly Cech - 2nd place Introduction to Psychology, Connor Blum
- 3rd place Introduction to Wellness/Sports/Physical Education, and
Haley Eikmeier - 1st place Anatomy and Physiology.

HDC 2016 Prom “Leave the Night On”
The Junior-Senior Prom was held on April 16th, at the Dodge Auditorium.
This year’s theme was “Leave the Night On”, and was decorated country chic. The
juniors and seniors arrived at the auditorium at 3:00 to take pictures, attended
mass at 5:00, and enjoyed their meal at 6:30. Following the meal they were
entertained by the prom servers; Dax Vanlengen, Kierra Stewart, Macey Kulhanek,
Jordan Brichacek, Jordyn Brester, Miles Kulhanek, Kaitlyn Steffensmeier, Ryan
Macholan, Emily Wragge, and Connor Blum. Proceeding the entertainment, was
some more pictures and then the promenade. Before the parents and guests made
their way to the door, the juniors and seniors enjoyed their first dance with their
mother or father. Following the dance, the jaguars danced the night away. The
night didn’t end there. The juniors and seniors then attended Post-Prom and
were entertained by a hypnotist, took on some bowling, and enjoyed some food.

decorating!

Spring music concert leaves its mark
On April 18, the Howells-Dodge Consolidated Schools had their Spring Music Program in Dodge. The concert was kicked off with the 5th and 6th grade band performing Milky Way March. It then continued with the Kindergarteners and the 1st Graders singing Shine and Splish Splash, next was 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Graders singing All In ( soloists being: Hunter Luther, Cooper Kreikemeier, Kennedie Gartner, and Kenadie Throener) and Rock Around the Clock. The 5th and 6th Grade classes then performed Butterfly ( soloists being: Ashlynn Throener, Lily Praest, and Sophia Dvorak) and Yakety Yak. The junior high band played Crown Point and Dragon Dance. Next, Phoebe Chi performed River Flows in You as a solo on the piano. The junior high choir singing Moses, Now Your People Are Free, Bless the Broken Road, and I’m Yours. The high school band played Liberty Bell Overture and Astron. Kennady Schmidt sang Can you Feel the Love Tonight and Nina Vogel sang Our Song, both as solos. To end the main part of the concert the High School Choir sang The Road Less Traveled, Rhythm of Life, The Drunken Sailor, and 7 Years accompanied by Phoebe Chi on the piano and Kassandra Hurley-Szabo on the guitar. The concert was then followed by a series of solos and duets by: Jaylyn Nemec - Can’t Help Falling in Love, Sasha Perrin - Part of Your World, Carter Bracht - How Great Thou Art, Elisia Vogel - Elephant Dance, Elizabeth Sindelar - Shenandoah, Carter Bracht - Valse Lyrique, Hailey Coufal - Wiegenlied, Hailey Coufal and Carter Bracht sang Firefly, and finally the 8th grade class sang Wagon Wheel, accompanied by Trevor Schumacher on the guitar.

FFA finishes their year State FFA Convention took place on April 6 - 8 in Lincoln. The
Howells-Dodge Chapter had many members entered in tough
competitions. Many of them placed well. Justin Evert was the
champion in the Cooperative Speaking event. Vanessa Hegemann
placed 3rd in Senior Public Speaking. The Ag Demonstration team
of Elisia Vogel, Brett Fiala, Joey Kratochvil, Elizabeth Sindelar, and
Hailey Coufal placed 4th. The Ag Mechanics team of Jerry Vrba,
Brad Kratochvil, Justin Horejsi, and Jon Yosten placed 6th. In Ag
Mechanics Jerry Vrba placed 3rd out of 180 individuals.
For the proficiency categories, Mitchell Prusa received 1st in
Ag Mechanics Repair and Maintenance, also receiving $1,000.
Vanessa Hegemann placed 1st in Agriculture Electrification
receiving $250. Mitchell Brester was 2nd in Beef Production
Placement, Darren Hegemann placed 2nd in Beef Production
Entrepreneurship, and Joey Kratochvil placed 3rd in Diversified
Agriculture Production. Mitchell Brester was also a State STAR
finalist in Agriculture placement and Darren Hegemann was a
State STAR finalist in Agriculture Production. Congratulations to

Students are successful at State FCCLA The FCCLA State Leadership Conference was held from April
3rd - April 5th. The chapter was very excited to compete and attend sessions located at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. Many students represented the Howells-Dodge chapter in STAR events, FCCLA quiz bowl, power of one, and several other activities. Members receiving recognition for State Power of One Awards were Anna Borman, Bridget Praest, Caitlin Klosen, Carter Bracht, Chelsea Bayer, Darren Hegemann, Emily Ritzdorf, Grace Dvorak, Hailey Coufal, Haley Eikmeier, Jessi Brester, Joey Kratochvil, Justin Evert, Justin Bazata, Kalli Brester, Kara Brichacek, Kelly Cech, Lindsey Pickhinke, Luke Renter, Mallory Rolf, McKenna Jedlicka, Mitchell Prusa, Sam Brester, Shelby Hegemann, Tessa Brester, Tonya Brester, Tyler Polacek, Tyler Brichacek, and Vanessa Hegemann. Kelly Cech was awarded the State Ultimate Leader Award. The members who earned medals in State STAR events were Seth Cech, Brad Kratochvil & Mitch Yosten (Silver); Josh Brester, Kade Hegemann, & Lane Hegemann (Silver); Connor Blum (Silver); Brett Fiala & Ryan Molacek (Silver); Desirae Haase (Silver); and Brittany Cech & Miah Nathan (Silver). Jordan Brichacek, Ryan Macholan, and Dax VanLengen were Nebraska State Champions in their STAR event. State Runner-Ups and qualifying for nationals in STAR were Jordyn Brester, Katelyn Steffensmeier, & Emily Wragge in Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Sr. and Hannah Bayer, McKenna Klosen, & Erin Prusa in Life Event Planning Jr. Brett Fiala and Ryan Molacek also will represent Nebraska in Promote and Publicize FCCLA! Carter Bracht was also selected as a National Officer Candidate. Good Luck to everyone competing at National FCCLA held in San Diego, California. The Howells-Dodge Chapter also won the Gold Star Chapter, Families First Award, Chapter Developer Award, and Red & White Membership Award. Congratulations to the Howells-Dodge FCCLA chapter.
