The Vocations Prayer Cross

will be at the homes of

Patrick & Andrea ConnerAdam & Marce Nicholas

All parishioners are invited to sign up to receive the prayer cross at any Mass you desire, by contacting John O’Brien at [email protected] or signing up in the vestibule. It is our hope that this experience will encourage each of us to take seriously our vocation as a member of the Body of Christ and encourage ALL of us to pray for the gift of vocations to priesthood and religious life.

“Different situations mean different opportunities to do good, different ways to pile up merits.”

- St. Joseph Marello

Reflecting on God’s WordThe story of the raising of Lazarus from the dead is the single longest story (apart from the Passion) in the Gospel of John. In it we find a summary of most of Jesus’ ministry. We see his very human nature as he is moved by Martha and Mary’s sorrows and as he himself weeps at the tomb of Lazarus. He is the wisdom of God’s Word made flesh as he explains to his followers that the death of Lazarus will serve as a sign of the glory of God. He crowns the miracles he works in John’s Gospel (which began with the most “human” miracle of making new wine at Cana’s wedding) by raising Lazarus from the dead—a “preview,” if you will, of his own death and resurrection to come. This portrait of Jesus reminds us, as we near the end of our Lenten journey, that he is with us, knows us, understands us in every moment of our lives. He knows the joy of our human feasting, he knows the sorrow of our weeping. As we prepare to walk with him through the days of Holy Week, we are filled with faith that—through Christ—God’s glory will be with us in every moment of our lives and—with Christ—in our life everlasting.

Do Little Things in a Great Way. ~ St. Therese of Lisieux ~

The proess of becoming holy begins with a single, holy moment: A holy moment is when we are doing exactly what God wants us to do.

It comes when we do little things in a great way, offering them to God. God has filled us with a deep yearning for holiness and happiness.

Holiness comes as we add new holy moments in our daily lives. Happiness comes as a result of our becoming holy.

We often deceive ourselves into thinking we cannot achieve holiness:

This is the big lie we tell ourselves and it disorients our lives. Holiness is possible and we achieve it one holy moment at a time.

We are our habits. We need to cultivate good habits to replace our bad habits:

Daily Prayer Frequent reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist Daily reading of the Bible Friendships based on and aiming for, holiness

Prison Pilgrimage of Mercy

One of the things we can offer Jesus for a spirit-filled lent is to make a resolution to visit someone in prison once a month. It will amaze you the peace and joy you will find.

Come join us to visit and pray with inmates every week at Folsom State Prison and California State Prison, Sacramento. We offer weekly spiritual programs for the prisoners. For those who have not visited a prison, we offer a monthly Prison Pilgrimage of Mercy on first Saturdays.

If you have a calling to join us we meet every first Saturday at St. John the Baptist church, in the Guadalupe room, at 1:30 pm to discuss the programs and how we can help prisoners. It’s fun and inspirational, with intriguing discussions.

If you would like to join us please call…the Prison/Restorative Justice Ministry
