Lovely Day
Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore;
John 21:4a
As the weather outside begins to turn a more pleasant tone of Spring, I find myself drawn to spend more time basking in the cool breeze and bright sun accompanying this long-awaited changeover. Throughout the frigid temperature drop of this year’s winter season, I’ve longed for a more mild environment to enjoy being outside.
With Grayson now in tow, saddled in his stroller, we’ve routinely taken walks down the paved walking trail behind our apartment. Just the other day, upon arriving at one of the few benches scattered throughout the path, I unbelted him, picked him up in my arms, and took a stroll to the nearby pond, just to give him an opportunity to overlook the water. During this time together, I felt such a peace about life in general. Gone were the many emails, phone calls, meetings, appointments, deadlines, even if just for a few brief moments. Instead of the busyness of a hectic schedule, there was tranquility, a calm atmosphere to share in the company of my son.
In moments such as this, marked by an increased clarity, I can’t help but be reminded of scripture or hymns from time spent together in worship. As I walked with Grayson, I started humming a familiar tune, watching him take in all that surrounded him, until he made his inevitable grab for my glasses.
On this walk, I reflected on the morning following Jesus’ resurrection where he appeared to the disciples on the shore. Scripture tells us as the day was breaking, a new dawn, a fresh start, when Jesus bellowed the question to his unknowing followers, “Have you caught any fish?” After providing further instructions to their task, we’re told the disciples had such a haul, they couldn’t bring in the net (153 to be exact. Someone apparently counted.) Eventually, they arrived on shore to find Jesus preparing the morning’s meal.
This breakfast with their Lord was surely a welcome experience to those disciples who, several days before, had been in mourning for the loss of their friend, only to have him return. Here, life retained some semblance of normalcy once again. Jesus was back, sharing this meal, much in contrast to the last meal he shared before his arrest. This one signified the new day inaugurated by his return. Yes, things were looking up for the disciples again, but things had changed as well, and for the better.
This new day was the start of a season of life where they would enact the continuation of Jesus’ work. As Jesus told Peter, “You follow me!”, so too does he instruct us with the same command. Sometimes, it takes that momentary blip in our busy radars, quiet time spent in treasured company that we catch a glimpse of the new day before us and find ourselves reminded of the Savior’s love and the call he has put upon all our lives.
And a lovely day it is, indeed.

Also, if you have a change in the schedule for the children’s nursery or children’s church, please contact the monthly coordinator so that the change can be made prior to the printing of the worship bulletin. However, any permanent changes in the schedule should continue to be handled by the lead coordinator.
Thank you for all your help.

Youth News
A big thanks to everyone who
supported us in our pancake
fundraiser. We raised $500, which covers almost two-thirds of
the total cost for our youth to go
on the mission trip this year.
Thank you!!
Camping – Come one, come all. We are going camping. Friday,
April 10th we are camping out at
the Harper’s. We will have a good
‘ol time fishing, roasting weenies,
making smores, and more. Families are welcome to come
with the youth. We will also need
some fishing and camping
supplies. If you have any that we
can use please contact Joe to let
him know. Those going should meet at KBC at 5PM to leave
together. It should be a good time
enjoying God’s creation together.
Car Wash – The youth are having
another fundraiser to help
support general youth events. We
will be washing cars at Walgreen’s on Knightdale Blvd on
Saturday, April 18th. We will
begin at 8AM and continue
until 12PM. The youth will have
tickets for sale toward the event.
The suggested amount is $5, but any donation is appreciated.
Bring all those cars, trucks,
vans, motorcycles, etc. for us to
clean up.
Youth Sunday – Sunday, April
26th will be our annual Youth
Sunday. We will have the
privilege of ministering to the
body this day. All hands on deck
as we will need participation from everyone in order to make this
happen. Don’t miss this Sunday
as we have a unique opportunity
to lead and encourage each other
toward love and good deeds
(Hebrews 10:25).
Baptist Children’s Home
– The youth are
sponsoring a
work day on Saturday, May 2nd
at the Baptist Children’s Home
at Oak Ranch in Sanford. We will help clean and fix up the
home so bring your tools and
your elbow grease. All ages are
welcome. We would love to see a
multi-generational effort combined to make this a
successful outreach and
relational opportunity. The
workday will last from 9AM until
12PM. A free lunch is provided.
Pay attention to the announcements for a time to
meet at KBC and carpool there.

Spring Bazaar and BBQ This event happens May 16th, but it is never too late for you to be involved! Buy your BBQ tickets now and be sure to pick up extra tickets to sell to your friends and neighbors. The food is going to be great, and there will be incredible desserts available for purchase in the Bake Sale. We have many wonderful crafters in our church, and some of their wares will be available for purchase. You will not want to miss the silent and live auctions, as we have many fantastic items donated already.
But we still need more items for each of the sales and auction events. So sign up any Sunday or Wednesday to let us know what you can donate — an heirloom quilt, original artwork or craft you have made, a favorite dessert, a gift certificate to a favorite business, or a weekend at your cabin or beach house.
Finally, donations may also be made to offset the cost of the food for the BBQ. As you can see, there is a way for everyone to help us prepare, and to enjoy the day when it arrives.
Questions? Contact Lois McCoy at 919.266.1045 or [email protected], or ask at the BBQ and Bazaar Table on Sundays or Wednesdays.
As part of our Bazaar in May, we will be having a plant sale along 2nd Avenue that morning. If you have some perennials in your yard that need to be divided, now is the time to dig them up and divide them into pots. Please consider bringing some of those potted perennials to our plant sale that Saturday. With everyone’s help, we can have a wonderful array of beautiful plants to sell at the Bazaar. If you have any questions about the plant sale, please contact DeAnne Talley at 919-217-8076.

If you have a gift of singing
or playing an instrument, but can't make the time
commitment to weekly rehearsals, let me know if you would like to provide

might be involved. You are welcome to join us!
