STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
Partners in Charity SCAM: Please be aware there is a phone scam soliciting for the Bishops Fund (name has not been used in years). Please know that the diocese and church does not solicit gifts of support for Partners in Charity over the phone; gifts are solicited by mail, online, or through the parish.
Please be aware that there are people who prey on other people in times of stress and anxiety. Please be cautious of phone calls and people
coming to your door. Do not let anyone in you do not know and never give out personal
information over the phone.
Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish,
I would like to extend to all of you keeping safe in your homes a grace filled Easter. For us, this is a
very odd and scary Easter. Things we may have taken for granted are now brutishly apparent in our
“sheltered” and “in place” lives. In years past, our Easters were filled with traditions that promoted going
out and meeting one another, special clothes for the children, Easter egg hunts, family and friends
gathering at designated homes or restaurants for brunch or dinner. The Lenten fasts and abstinences were
replaced with joyous festivities and the songs at Church were triumphant with „Glorias‟ and „Alleluias‟.
This year muted. Staying connected to one another and engaged calls for every bit of creativity and
technology learning we can muster.
What can be said about this Easter that can give us a lesson from our faith and spiritual lives? What
hope can this Easter provide as we celebrate without the benefit of a gathered community of song and
praise? Remember, that first Easter long time ago was also an Easter in isolation! Remember, there was
no one present to see the moment when Jesus rose from the dead, with the exception of a few blinded
soldiers guarding the tomb. Remember, the only one of his followers who encountered him was a friend,
who didn‟t even recognize him and, ironically for the times we live in, was told „not to cling to him‟.
Remember, the other disciples were barricaded in some room; meeting in fear. Since Judas was no
longer one of the twelve and, we are told that, Thomas was „not in the room when Jesus appeared‟, the
ten now were maintaining Governor Baker‟s mandate for gatherings of ten or less. (At this point, I would
put a smiling emoji to indicate us to take that statement with a bit of wry humor.)
If anything, this Easter is very similar to that first Easter and look where we have come. A celebration
that began in isolation has created its own pandemic. There‟s not a place on this earth that hasn‟t heard
the message, “God so loved the world that he gave his only Beloved Son, that whosoever believes in him
should not perish but have everlasting life (Jn 3:16)”. Yes, our Easter will be different this year, but not
unknown. Stay rooted in your faith and let the resurrected Jesus Christ fill your homes and loved ones.
Stay safe and healthy. I look forward to once again seeing you around the altar at Our Lady of Lourdes.
God bless and, in the words of our Greek brothers and sisters, “Christ is risen, Christ is truly risen!”

LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING ACTS 10: 34a, 37-43
Peter proceeded to speak and said: "You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Gali-lee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that eve-ryone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name." The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
SECOND READING 1COR 5:6b-8
Brothers and sisters: Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough? Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

HOMILY
GOSPEL MT 28:1-10
After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men. Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you." Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."
BLESSING OF THE EASTER WATER & RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES
Presider: Dear brothers and sisters, through the Paschal Mystery we have been buried with Christ in Baptism, so that we may walk with him in newness of life. And so, now that our Lenten observance is concluded, let us renew the promises of Holy Baptism, by which we once renounced Satan and his works and promised to serve God in the holy Catholic Church. And so I ask you:
-Do you renounce sin, so as to live in the freedom of the children of God?
The Baptized: I do.
-Do you renounce the lure of evil, so that sin may have no mastery over you? The Baptized: I do.
-Do you renounce Satan, the author and prince of sin? The Baptized: I do.
-Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? The Baptized: I do.
-Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father? The Baptized: I do.
-Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?
The Baptized: I do.
And may almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us new birth by water and the Holy Spirit and bestowed on us forgiveness of our sins, keep us by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord, for eternal life.
The Baptized: Amen
