Welcome Circle: Calendar. New month April. Demonstrate where April is on the yearly calendar with all the

months ($1 store). Add children’s birthdays to the new month, holidays, and any other special days. Introduce

some things to learn in April— Easter, chicks, ladybugs, continuation of butterfly lifecycle, recycling and conserva-

tion, Earth Day. Assign helper of the day. Story, helper of the day’s choice.

Song: Months of the Year (to the tune of "Ten Little Indians")

January, February, March, and April,May, June, July, August, and September,

October, November, and December,

These are the months of the year.

Intro to Easter Theme. Discuss Easter theme as appropriate for your group.

Song: Easter Eggs (tune: "Jingle Bells") Easter eggs, Easter eggs

Eggs of orange and blue.

Here' are lots of colored eggs

All for me and you.

Chocolate eggs colored brown,Jelly beans bright green

Aren't these the most beautiful eggs

That you have ever seen?

Craft: Blown eggs craft.

1. Shake the egg to break the yolk. Then use a large pin or small nail to make a hole (not too small) in the top an

bottom of the egg. Holding the egg over a bowl, blow gently through the top hole until the egg is empty.

2. Put a few colors of paint on a paper plate. Hold the egg on the ends with a thumb and finger so it can be

rotated while being stamped. Paint eggs or stamp with finger prints to look like jelly beans for a nice design.

3. Place eggs in empty strawberry basket with plastic grass for nice table centerpiece.

Activity: Plastic Easter egg match. Provide a couple dozen plastic Easter eggs that are taken apart into halves.

Place on table, at circle time, or in sensory table (with plastic Easter grass!). Have the children match the halvestogether again by matching the correct color.

Advanced option: Provide several to each child and have a race who can match the fastest.

Cooking Friday: Scrambled egg nests.

1 (3 1/2-cup) bag frozen shredded potatoes, defrosted

1/4 cup vegetable oil or butter

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

Heat oven to 400°. In a large bowl, toss together the potatoes, oil or butter, salt, and pepper. Spoon about 1/3

cup of the potato mixture into each cup of a 12-serving muffin tin. Press the mixture into the

bottom and up the sides of each cup, then bake until golden brown, about 30 to 35minutes. Remove the nests from the oven and cool. They will form a crispy crust when

cooled.

Cook sausage according to package instructions. Separately whisk together the eggs and

milk until scrambled. Add cut-up cooked sausage to scrambled eggs and mix together.

Remove the potato nests from the muffin tin and place them on a cookie sheet. Fill each

cup with some of the egg and sausage mixture, top with a sprinkling of the cheese, and

place the nests in a 375° oven until the cheese is melted, about 2 to 3 minutes. Serve warm.

Add fruit on the side for balanced lunch option.

Dumping my eggs,

In the big basket.

Set out a large cooking pot. Have children sit around the pot.

Tell them that your are going to make some vegetable soup but that you need their help.

Taking turns, each child pretends to toss a vegetable into the pot.

The hard part of the game is that when it is your turn, you have to remember all the other veg-

etables that have been placed into the pot and then add your own, in the proper order.

Example: There have already been carrots, peas, tomatoes put into the pot and you want toadd onions. You must say, "We're making vegetable soup today and we're adding carrots,

peas, tomatoes and then you say onions".

land, etc. Discuss concept of garbage, wastefulness, and recycling. Relate The Lorax book totheme. Relate concept of keeping air clean and air pollution. Trees and plants clear the air.Plants and trees turn carbon dioxide into the oxygen that we need to breathe. Explain that we

cannot see air but that it is all around us and that we need to keep our air fresh and clean tobe healthy. Trees also help keep the soil from eroding away, and they give animals a place to

live. Plant a tree or plant to help the soil and to provide oxygen.

Circle time activity: Provide a straw and cotton ball to each child in circle. Have childrenblow through a straw, trying to move the cotton ball. Air is important because we breathe it

and it needs to be clean to keep us healthy. What makes air dirty? How can we keep our air

clean?

Movement: Egg toss. Toss plastic eggs into baskets. Move baskets farther for challenge.

Measure how far child can get 3 in a row.

Additional option. Egg relay. Carry egg from one basket at one side of room, run, and drop

egg in other basket on other side of room. Then another child in that row does the same.Which was the fastest team? Switch members on team and try again.

Activity: Earthcakes

Cover the work surface with newspaper. Place a tub of each of the following on the art table

or floor: sand, dirt, salt, gravel.Have small pitchers of water plus old bowls and spoons nearby. Let each child create an

Sensory/Activity/Craft: Mouse Paint Art. Read the book Mouse Paint to students. Make noteof how the mice in the story mix colors and make new colors. Ask children to predict the new

colors the mice will make. When the book is finished, divide children into groups of three likethe 3 mice in the story. Tell the students they now get to be the mice in the story as you make"puddles" of yellow, blue and red paint on the large pieces of white paper. Explain that their

two fingers are mouse feet and they should "dance" in the puddles like the mice in the story.Emphasize that they need ONLY two fingers to dance. Observe as the students create sec-

ondary colors and ask them how they managed to make new colors.

Group Activity: Use large non-patterned sheet and spread outside and have children usewashable markers to decorate as group activity.

Group Activity: Use large non-patterned sheet and write large letters/numbers/shapes all ovePlay music and call out letters/numbers/shapes and have children jump to the correct letter/number/shape. Then jump back off sheet to edge and wait for next letter/number/shape.

Movement: Use one of the sheets for parachute play.

Dramatic play: Use the sheets to build forts.

Craft: Make the birds nest. Mud = 2 cups of sand, 2 cups of mud, 1/ 2 cup of salt. Mix andadd enough water to make pliable. Mix in collected materials like twigs, grass, leaves, etc.

Shape to bird nest shape. Add found round rocks that look like eggs, or leftover Robin Eggcandies from Easter.

Craft: Handmade soap. Grate bars of Ivory brand soap (must be Ivory). Provide grated soap

flakes and warm water. Take some soap flakes and add a little warm water. Knead in handsuntil desired pliable consistency. Add water if too stiff. f too much water, just dab with paper

towels. Once well-blended, make soap balls. Place on wax paper and dry overnight.

Other Options:

This homemade soap can also be rolled out and cut with metal cookie cutters to make every

shape imaginable.

Make homemade soap-on-a-rope by inserting a soft braided rope in the center of the soap

balls. Homemade soap balls complete with ropes for hanging are ideal for shower use, andkids absolutely love them. Best of all, they float in the bathtub just like bars of Ivory soap.

How about making homemade soap balls with bathtub toys inside? They make fun and affordable homemade gifts for kids, and they are perfect for all occasions. Simply form the home-

made balls of soap around small waterproof toys. When the soap balls are used up, the toyswill magically appear. Making hand-washing fun!

I'm squishing up the baby bumblebee,

Won't my mommy be so proud of me,('Squish' bee between palms of hands)

I'm squishing up a baby bumblebee,

Ooh! It's yucky!(Open up hands to look at 'mess')

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,

Won't my mommy be so proud of me,

(Wipe hands off on shirt)

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,Now my mommy won't be mad at me!

(Hold hands up to show they are clean)
