Would you like to be in with a chance to win a selection of Easter goodies? 7PB will be selling raffle tickets during tutor time and at break and lunchtimes in the KS3 Hub to raise money for Martin House Hospice. Tickets are 50p each or 3 for £1. The draw will be made at the end of term and the prize delivered to the lucky winner.

3D Printing Arrives Design and Technology are pleased to announce the arrival of 3D printing. This new technology is set to change the future of manufacturing industries, from household goods to aerospace and medical applications. Students now have the opportunity to create Computer Aided Design files and print them directly as a 3 dimensional model. The pictures show Cameron Smith (12JES/JLI) completing a model of Gerrit Rietveld’s famous red and blue chair. Design and Technology hope to use this Technology with all 'A' Level Product Design students and GCSE Resistant Materials.

The Easter holiday is approaching so it has to be that time again…clearing out the lost property box! Please claim your PE kits, shoes, coats, scarves, watches, phones, keys and glasses before you lose them for good.

The box will be cleared out on Thursday 10th April…you have been warned!

Sharing Success Well done to our Year 8 rugby team who played in the White Rose Finals Festival last Thursday. They displayed some great rugby under difficult circumstances. The final scores were:

IGS 0-12 Ripon, IGS 7-0 Rossett (Try: Sam McKinnon Evans Conv: Matthew Hastings), IGS 14-0 Prince Henry’s (Try: Sam McKinnon Evans and Henry Ackroyd. Conv: Matthew Hastings 2) and IGS 7-12 Rodillian (Try: Sam McKinnon Evans Conv: Matthew Hastings)

Congratulations to our U14 Hockey Team who were crowned Bradford Champions on Monday night at the tournament at Bradford Grammar School. They played extremely well beating South Craven (3-1) and Bradford Grammar School (3-1).

The Last Match! Our Year 11 netball team played their last match together on Monday. They've been together for 5 years and Mrs Bennett has coached them to many victories over these years. In their last match of the season (for some, their last match ever at Ilkley Grammar School) the girls did Mrs Bennett proud! A fast paced and well fought contest with Bradford Girls’ ended in a 20-13 win to Ilkley. Player of the match was Anna Ross (Capt.) – very fitting! Well done to all the squad - some good memories to look back on over the years...a successful team who took their netball seriously on court, but always made sure they had fun!

Back Row: Rosie Shouler-Harris (11EAC), Sarah Elliott (11PO), Anna Ross (11ISR), Mrs Bennett, Amelia Fowler (11SMS), Phoebe Smith (11KPC), Hollie Morris (11LSL) and Katie McCaul (11JCT) Front Row: Alice Edwards (11JB), Grace Malir (11LSL) and Johanna Murray (11SMS)

Thank you and well done to Louis Brow (9SCB) for going above and beyond last week! After receiving a lovely letter from a member of the public, whose elderly father-in-law had been helped by one of our students, we used your iPads to track down the helpful young person. Not only did Louis Brow come forward himself, but lots of his friends and classmates also named him as the Good Samaritan. The elderly gentleman was on his way home when his mobility scooter broke down. Louis kindly volunteered his help and pushed this man’s scooter uphill from The Grove, up Riddings Road onto Abbeyfield and while his friends looked on!

Thank You!

Congratulations to Niamh Maroney (9DMM) who entered the Skipton Music Festival in 2 classes. Niamh was the reigning champion from 2013 (Boys’ and Girls’ Solo U13).

In the Own Choice Song Grades 3 or 4 class she faced stiff competition from Yorkshire and Lancashire. Niamh sang a traditional Irish Folk song, ‘I Know Where I'm Goin' and won the class, retaining the Carleton Trophy. In the U13 ‘Songs from the Shows’ class (which was extremely competitive with 21 entries from Yorkshire and Lancashire) Niamh sang ‘The Lambeth Walk’ from ‘Me and My Girl’. She performed it fantastically well and secured second place.

Niamh performed so well in both classes that she has been invited back for a second year to perform ‘The Lambeth Walk’ in the Festival’s Saturday evening final concert, not a bad effort considering she has only been in singing lessons for just under two years!

Netball News! Our final netball matches of the season were very successful.

U14A beat Bradford Grammar School B 29-4, meaning we are undefeated in the League this year!

U13A beat Bradford Girls’ Grammar School 8-0 and Bradford Grammar School B 15-1

U13B reached the semi-finals of the Emerging Schools’ League tournament

U12A drew with Bradford Girls’ Grammar School 6-6

U12B beat Thornton A 9-1 U12C lost to Aireville A 3-6

Players of the Match honours went to U14A Elisabeth Henney (9SMD), U13A Emma Barwick (8HM) and Izzy Atkinson (8HM), U12A Hannah Marshall (7PB), U12B Jess Norris (7PDH) and Sophie Mason (7HED/KE), U12C Alice Rodley (7PB)

Well done to our Year 8 footballers who fought hard in the Leeds Area Quarter Final against Cardinal Heenan on Wednesday night. It wasn’t to be our night and the game finished 3-2 to Cardinal. They took the lead really early on and caught us cold a bit. However we came straight back and a storming run down the right by Sam Mackinnon-Evans (8ADM) saw him cut in and then finish in the corner. A fine solo effort! Cardinal Heenan then took control later in the first half with two strikes. There was nothing that keeper Josh Shepherd (8ADM) could do on either occasion. Undeterred though, Ilkley came storming back in the second half. Superbly marshalled by James Silson (8MWC) at the back, Ilkley held firm and then threw everything at their opponents. Sub Isaac Bullough (8ADM) grabbed an excellent finish in the box as Ilkley finished the game the stronger and pressing for that elusive equaliser to force the match to extra time. Sadly it would not come and Ilkley exited the Cup with heads held high.

Clean Sweep! Our 1st XV rugby team played in a 10s Festival at Horsforth School on Wednesday night and won all their games. The scores were:

IGS 19-5 HorsforthIGS 29 - 0 Bingley Grammar School IGS 5 - 0 Prince Henry’s Grammar School IGS 12 - 0 Harrogate Grammar School

Quite rightly the team posed for this celebratory, muddy but happy, post-match selfie!

World Health Day - 7 April 2014 World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organisation in 1948. Each year a theme is selected that highlights a priority area of public health. The Day provides an opportunity for individuals in every community to get involved in activities that can lead to better health. The focus for 2014 is vector-borne diseases. What are vectors and vector-borne diseases? Vectors are organisms that transmit pathogens and parasites from one infected person (or animal) to another. Vector-borne diseases are illnesses caused by these pathogens and parasites in human populations. They are most commonly found in tropical areas and places where access to safe drinking-water and sanitation systems is problematic. The most deadly vector-borne disease, malaria, caused an estimated 660 000 deaths in 2010. Most of these were African children. However, the world's fastest growing vector-borne disease is dengue, with a 30-fold increase in disease incidence over the last 50 years. World Health Day 2014 will spotlight some of the most commonly known causes – such as mosquitoes, sand flies, bugs, ticks and snails – responsible for transmitting a wide range of parasites and pathogens that attack humans or animals. The aim of the campaign is for:

families living in areas where diseases are transmitted by vectors know how to protect themselves; travellers know how to protect themselves from vectors and vector-borne diseases when travelling to

countries where these pose a health threat; in countries where vector-borne diseases are a public health problem, ministries of health put in place

measures to improve the protection of their populations; and in countries where vector-borne diseases are an emerging threat, health authorities work with

environmental and relevant authorities locally and in neighbouring countries to improve integrated surveillance of vectors and to take measures to prevent their proliferation.
