Negotiations can take place as part of a plea deal where your client takes a plea in exchange for a lighter sentence, or post-conviction, in an effort to mitigate your client’s sentence. A comprehensive mitigation report prepared by an expert will be tremendously helpful in strengthening your effectiveness in these negotiations. It will enable you to advocate more successfully and productively for your client. Mitigation reports normally describe factors that include the client’s psychological profile and social environment, as well as possible alternatives to incarceration.
