PRESIDENTS REPORT

After the poor weather leading up to the Ford Day at the Mount the day turned on some sun and great turn out from the club, but numbers for the event appeared to be down overall. We took our latest purchase for it maiden run; apart from some minor fuel problems over the Kaimai’s (I had to say that after being passed by other club members) we are sure it will easily do the trip to Twizel. The numbers for Twizel are down considerably on the initial interest shown and we are currently looking at around dozen cars in total. It seems that we are not the only club showing reduced numbers after a chat with an Auckland club member, the recession, cost of petrol or health seems to be the main reasons, I’m sure those attending will fly our flag high. The AGM is coming up real fast so start thinking about who you would like to see in the key roles, will be the weekend after mother’s day (15th May) as per normal, location yet to be confirmed. Don’t forget about the trophies as great opportunity for the club to recognise the efforts of other members, or their misdemeanours. I mentioned the convertibles that were not selling on Trade me in the last report, I have inside information that currently one if not both are about to make their way back to England, sad. Had a chance to catch up with Ross & Margaret Mac recently and their car is absolutely stunning, hate to say it Ross, but I think your car can currently leg it better than you, good to see you on the mend. The Triumph club car show in Te Awamutu is on the 10th April, not the 21st as in the events section in mag, always well supported by the club and a great day out, entry fee to Air Ambulance, $3000 donated last year. See you on the next run, Mike.

LAST MONTHS RUN

ALL FORD DAY

After a really hot February, the weather for the All Ford Day threatened rain so the turnout was light this year. However, a superb day was held by everyone from our club who made their way to Blake Park. We travelled over from Hamilton via Cambridge where we had a rendezvous with the Duffs (in their red and light blue Mark 2 Consul) and John S and Ross in Ratler. Ross, the bionic man was in good form and coming along well. We flew (hey I’m allowed some literary licence) over the Kaimais and arrived to find that the Hazeltons had secured a prime spot near the entrance and the coffee, and away from the shady trees where the birds sat and left their calling cards. Around 150 cars were parked up and our Hamilton ZZ Club lined up 12 of Ford’s best with a couple of random extras. Oops, make that 13, because Paul and Daphne zoomed in at the end with the mass of dash that is their Mark4 and it was great to see them. There were plenty of opportunities to have a coffee, lunch, check out the other cars and do some new member recruiting. One of the highlights of the day was the arrival of the Variety Club Bash people and in our prime spot we had a great view of the parade driving by. They had an amazing group of vehicles and all of their crew were dressed up in outrageous outfits and provided

entertainment. It was great that they were collecting for Christchurch as everyone was feeling numb from the tragedy of the earthquake and very much thinking of the people of Canterbury. We were not too flash at winning spot prizes but it didn’t matter because Pauline and Merv did the club proud. They and their lovely Mark 1 won the All Ford Day Best English/European trophy, sponsored by Ultimate Motor Group – Congratulations! The day wrapped up around 3pm, the weather having brightened and the sun returned, as everyone headed home after a great day out. Clare and John Cramond ZOD1E

MIDDLE OF THE

ROAD

Paul was at a local beerhall when a beautiful woman walked in. The beerhall was

full and there was only one one place to sit: next to him! Paul, always a friendly

guy, decided to strike up a conversation with his pretty new neighbor. But as soon

as he said "Hello, Miss..." she turned to him and screamed at the top of her lungs,

"WHAT KIND OF A PERSON DO YOU THINK I AM, YOU PERVERT!"

This caught him very off guard, as all of his friends in the beerhall were glaring at

him for trying to molest this newcomer. He slouched down as far as he could on his

stool, and looked at what he knew would be his last drink here in a long time.

After a few minutes the lady said to him, "I'm sorry if I scared or embarrassed you.

I'm a Psychology student and I'm doing a study on what happens to an innocent

person when they are falsely accused of something in public. Please don't take it

personally. We're friends, right? Shake hands?"

Paul looked at her, her hand stretched out, her eyes imploring and yelled out, "A

THOUSAND BUCKS FOR A NIGHT!!! ARE YOU CRAZY??"
