Entry QUALIFICATION OBJECTIVES Engineering Technical Support Technicians work as part of a team to provide technical support and experse for all areas of Engineering and Manufacturing. They will be able to work with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy and mely delivery of the work they undertake. They will be proacve in finding soluons to problems and identifying areas for improving the business. Within the first year the Apprence will aend four days in the week, compleng praccal skills within the IPS Rochester workshop (foundaon competence units) and they will aend one day a week, studying the Technical Cerficate. In Year 2 the Apprence moves to day release and will aend the Training Centre one day a week to connue the Technical Cerficate, connuing unl they are ready for End Point Assessment in Year 4. The Apprence will connue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme. Specific Specialist Knowledge:Understand mathematical techniques, formula and calculations in a mechatronics maintenance environment.

Understand the methods and techniques used to evaluate technical data and documentation.

Understand how to identify that the data and documentation being used is current and up to date.

Understand the procedure to be used for making changes to issued documentation.

Understand where and how to source other areas of technical expertise/information to help solve technical problems.

Understand the requirements of the customer (internal/external) and support using the appropriate tools, equipment and processes.

Specific Specialist Skills:Produce technical documentation that contains all the relevant and necessary data and information required for the technical support activity being carried out.

Present technical documentation in the required format.

Ensure that codes, symbols and other references used in the technical documentation follows agreed UK/International conventions.

Save and store technical documentation in the correct format and location in accordance with organisational and/or customer requirements.

Make any changes/amendments to the technical documentation using agreed quality assurance control procedures.

Develop effective business and/or customer relationships.

Provide technical advice and guidance to others.

Contribute to the business by identifying possible opportunities for improving working practices, processess and/or procedures.

Plus one of the following:Produce engineering/manufacturing production plans.

Obtain resources for engineering/manufacturing activities.

Obtain and control materials used in engineering/manufacturing environments.

Role ProfileTechnical Support Technicians work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise for all areas of the Engineering and Manufacturing function. This includes; communications software, test, analysis tools, measurement, offline programming, process control, performance & continuous improvement solutions, capacity planning, production scheduling/planning, product technical applications & capability, technical sales, marketing support, product development & innovation, engineering drawing, purchasing and/or supply of goods or services for engineering activities, quality control, inspection and e-commerce technologies as required.

FOUNDATION PHASE - YEAR 1After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development, all Apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

• Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)This qualification covers specific skills, knowledge and behaviours of a range of engineering disciplines which have been developed in consultation with engineering industry specialists and training providers to ensure that it meets the needs of employers and learners. It covers a range of Apprenticeship Standards developed across the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector.

• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)This qualification provides learners with a complex blend of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across Advanced Manufacturing Engineering disciplines; it takes a hands-on approach to training.

DEVELOPMENT PHASE - YEAR 2-3After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development, all Apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications.

• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Technical Support Technician (Development Competence)This qualification has been developed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge they will need to carry out the role of a Technical Support Technician. It covers the relevant health and safety requirements to ensure that all aspects of the Technical Support role can be carried out safely, it also includes fault finding, maintenance and planning as a basis for the qualification.

• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)This qualification can continue into 2nd Year with development knowledge.

Gateway - YEAR 3-4In order to be ready for End Point Assessment the Apprentice must have achieved:A. Pass, Merit or Distinction in the selected Level 3 Technical Knowledge QualificationB. A binary grade Pass in the Level 3 Occupational Competence QualificationC. The required behaviours aligned to an Engineering TechnicianD. English and Maths qualifications at Level 2

END POINT ASSESSMENTThe employer undertakes a Portfolio based Occupational Competence Validation Interview (Viva). A nominated Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) undertakes the independent assessment to determine if the Apprentice has met the Engineering Technician requirements as defined by the UK-SPEC requirements. The PEI will also undertake an independent quality assurance of the Employer Viva interview documentation and checks that the employ-er approved mandatory qualifications achieved during the on programme phase and checked at Gateway 2 have been achieved and certificated.

APPRENTICE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE: Final employer Sign Off & PEI/MIAA applies for the Apprentice's completion certificate.
