TREE BANK WINS NATIONAL GRANT The UPS Foundation and Keep America Beautiful
awarded the Tree Bank Foundation with a grant
to assist our Tornado Re-Leaf program. This year
the program will focus on trees to be replanted
in Moore, Oklahoma. Forty mature trees will be
donated to the Moore Parks and Recreation
Department to be planted in public parks. An
additional sixty mature trees will be distributed
among schools, churches and organizations that
were affected by the tornadoes of 2013. The
Tree Bank will have a volunteer tree planting day
on Saturday, November 8 from 9am to noon. A
catered breakfast will be provided while we
welcome our volunteers and talk about the best
ways to plant a tree. Volunteers will then be sent
to their planting sites. There is no age restriction, although
minors must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nicki Largent at
[email protected] or call 405.630.9152.
SALVATION ARMY TO RECEIVE OKLAHOMA
ORCHARD AT NEW FACILITY The Tree Bank Foundation will donate its third
Oklahoma Orchard to the Salvation Army’s Center of
Hope, which will be located on a 26-acre campus at N.
Pennsylvania Avenue and NW 10th Street in
Oklahoma City. The Center of Hope complex will be a
one-stop location providing comprehensive social
services for families and individuals.
“Many who struggle to provide for their families rarely
have the opportunity to enjoy fresh fruit. But now
with the donation of this orchard, numerous lives will
be touched for generations to come,” said Major
Carlyle Gargis, Area Commander of The Salvation
Army Central Oklahoma Area Command. “This
contribution is truly invaluable. We say thank you on behalf of the
individuals who will share in the fruits generously provided by The
Tree Bank Foundation.” The orchard will be funded by the proceeds
from the Tree to Table Benefit.

TREE TO TABLE BENEFIT
Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, nationally
acclaimed chef serving as Head
Judge at the Tree to Table Benefit
Oct. 28, 2014 Farmers Public Market in OKC 6:30pm
We are pleased to invite all of our supporters to a deliciously unique event—
the Tree to Table Benefit. This cooking competition challenges chefs and
caterers throughout Oklahoma to create a dish that highlights ingredients from
trees. Although other ingredients may be used, the dishes should celebrate
ingredients like olives, avocadoes, apples, peaches, cinnamon and chocolate.
Attendees will sample all of the dishes and vote on their Fan Favorite. A
judging panel will also taste each dish to select the Best Savory, Best Sweet and
Overall Winning Dish. Winners will be given cash prizes.
The judging panel is led by nationally acclaimed chef Alex Guarnaschelli who is
featured on Food Network’s Chopped, Iron Chef America and won Season Five
of The Next Iron Chef. Our second judge is Mr. Dave Cathey, the food editor of
The Oklahoman. Our third judge—just might be you! This final position on the
judging panel is up for auction on our website, www.TheTreeBank.org.
Anyone with a catering license can compete. There is no cost to enter the
competition and every competitor will be given a $250 gift card to purchase
ingredients.
Individual tickets are $100 and VIP tickets are $250. VIP guests will enjoy a
reception before the event where they can speak with the judges, learn about
wine pairings with tree ingredients and will have reserved seating close to the
stage during the main event. We also have three sponsorship levels:
Gold Sponsor (4 VIP tickets; 8 raffle tickets; Reserved seats at the front of
the hall; Online acknowledgement throughout the year; Listing in program,
and all other printed materials) $5,000
Silver Sponsor (2 VIP tickets; Reserved

TREE BANK WELCOMES NEW EMPLOYEE
The Tree Bank is happy to announce the appointment of Juliette Hulen as our new Events
and Programs Assistant. Juliette has previously worked for OG&E and the Department of
Environmental Quality. She has also volunteered for The Oklahoma City Chapter of The
Nature Conservancy participating on fundraising event committees. Juliette was
co-coordinator of the Spirit of the Buffalo public art exhibit working with artists, sponsors
and Oklahoma townships to place life-sized buffalo sculptures around the state to create
awareness of The Nature Conservancy and its mission. Juliette and her husband are long-
time nature enthusiasts and have spent time literally “hanging out in trees” while doing
macaw nesting research in the Peruvian Rainforest.
I love seeing signs of life after a
dull winter. Color, color, color!
