Getting Started with Equipment

Is anyone relatively new to using our CompactLogix controller systems?

Have the need to train new employees?

Desire a simple approach to putting a system together?

From system assembly, configuration, programming, and testing?

Getting Started with Equipment

Is anyone tasked with inventorying their control system’s network?

Device catalog numbers, serial numbers, revision, CIP path, etc.?

Ethernet? ControlNet? DeviceNet?

Do you need to report this inventory?

System Ferret

A stand-alone software tool

Requires RSLinx Classic (Lite is sufficient)

Acts as a hardware inventory tool

Run the ferret – it finds all devices connected on CIP networks

Interrogates each device and reports information such as catalog

number, serial number, revision, CIP path, etc.

Logs all this information to an .xml or Excel files

Page 32: ApplicationTools - Rockwell.pdf

Copyright © 2013 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved.PUBLIC INFORMATION

What does it do

Scans CIP networks

Discovers all devices connected to those CIP networks

Records information about each device

Name

CIP Path

Product Type

Catalog Number

Vendor
