Open Array allows the creation of single planes as well as importing DXF files for more complicated venue.This application note shows how to import a DXF files in Open Array 2 and describes how to create a “proper” DXF file.

Open Array imports from the DXF files only the entities called “3D faces”, you have to simply draw with this command the surfaces you want to have later in OAx.

Normally the architectural drawings of the venues are full of information that are useless for the acoustic simulation. It is important to simplify the drawings in order to import only the information required for the simulation.

The drawing of the following example is in 3D, therefore it is sufficient to draw the surfaces and import them in Open Array in which the venue will be already in 3D. In the most common situations the drawings are in plan and, once the surfaces have been imported into Open Array, the 3D model of the venue must be recreated by following the section and raising the surfaces to the right level specified in the cut view.

HOW TO CREATE A DXF FILES TO IMPORT IN OPEN ARRAY 2

1 Open the drawing.

Create a new layer that will contain only the 3D faces. This will help you to separate the 3D faces from the rest of the draw-ing when you have to export your work.

Start drawing 3D faces (shown in the image in Yellow) in the new layer.

Keep on drawing...

Each 3D FACES is made of 4 points, but you can also create triangular faces by selecting two coincident points.

The image shows the drawing with all the 3D FACES.

Here we made just a quarter of the arena because in Open Array 2 we can create a mirror surfaces and the other three quarters are basically the same.

You can now disable all the other layers in order to see only the 3D FACES (as shown in this picture).

Save the file as DXF.

We suggest to select the op-tion “select object” from Instru-ments > Options > DXF Op-tions. In order to export only the 3D FACES that you have created. You will be asked to select the object you want to export. Just select the 3D FACES and push “Return”. You can also copy the 3D FACES layer in a New Pro-ject.

The ground planes are im-ported.

Check the dimension before proceeding. If something is wrong you might have to select a different import unit.

Select the DXF file from the folder and select the appropri-ate unit for the DXF files (m in this example).

Please select carefully the drawing’s unit.

Click “Ok”.
