Introduction and general properties

ThismanualinformsyouontheapplicationofVISCOTAQproducts.This application manual is valid for all VISCOTAQ applicationsunlessotherwisespecified.

VISCOTAQ products have been developed for the protectionagainst corrosion of underground and aboveground substrates.VISCOTAQ products have also been developed for sealing pipeandcableconduits,apertures,holesandtankchimesagainst thewaterinfiltration.

In order to obtain the best performance of VISCOTAQ productsit is important that there is no condensation present on thesurface to be coated or on or between other coatings (layers).It is furthermore advised that the surface temperature of thesubstratetobeprotectedisaminimum3C/37.4Fabovethedewpoint.Moreover it isadvisedtoalwaysblastthesurfacetoanearwhitemetallevelSA2-1/2. IfblastingofthesubstratecannotbeaccomplishedaminimumsurfacepreparationcanbeachievedbySSPC-3

Chapter 2: Product Overview

VISCOSEALANT is a viscous-elastic paste typematerial for thesealing of pipe and cable conduits against the infiltration ofmoisture and gases. Moreover VISCOSEALANT can be usedto seal flange apertures, tank chimes, transformer chambers,swimming pools, sewage treatment plants, air conditioningsystems, etc. VISCOSEALANT is a 100% inertmaterial and hasan immediate adhesion to wet and dry surfaces of most allundergroundandabovegroundsubstrates.

VISCOWRAP-ST is a viscous-elastic self healing coating for theprotectionofundergroundandabovegroundsubstratesagainstcorrosion. VISCOWRAP-HT can be used in environments or onsubstrates with a continuous surface temperature up to +60C/+140 F. The material is available in several width/lengthcombinations.

VISCOWRAP-HT is a viscous-elastic self healing coating forthe protection of underground and aboveground substratesagainstcorrosion.VISCOWRAP-HTcanbeusedinenvironmentsor on substrates with a continuous surface temperature up to+80C/+176F. Thematerial is available in severalwidth/lengthcombinations.

VISCOPASTE-ST is a viscous-elastic self healing paste for theprotectionofundergroundandabovegroundsubstratesagainstcorrosion. VISCOPASTE-ST is designed to protect voids anduneven surfaces against corrosion and is also used to preventwaterinfiltrationatcasingends,pipepenetration,prefabjoints,etc.Thematerialcanbeusedinenvironmentsoronsubstrateswithasurfacetemperatureupto+60C/+140F.Thematerial isdeliveredinrollformandcanbecuttosize.

EZ-WRAP is a viscous-elastic self healing coating forencapsulation of substrates and for the protection of TankChimes and aboveground substrates against corrosion andwaterinfiltration.UnlikeVISCOWRAP,whichhasapolyethylenetopcoat,EZ-WRAPhasapolyestertopcoatthatcanbepainted.EZ-WRAP can be used in environments or on substrates witha surface temperature up to +60 C/+140 F. The material isdeliveredinrollsofdifferentwidth/lengthcombinations.

VISCOSLEEVE is a viscous-elastic heat shrink sleeve for theprotection of girth welds in pipeline systems. VISCOSLEEVE isappliedasasinglelayerouterwrapwithoutglueoraprimerontopofapreviousappliedlayerofVISCOWRAP.

VISCOTAQ PVC OuterWrap isusedforthemechanicalprotectionofVISCOTAQmaterials.Thematerialisavailableinrollsofdifferentwidth/lengthcombinations.

VISCOTAQ PE OuterWrap is used for themechanical protectionofVISCOTAQmaterials.Thematerialisavailableinrollsofdifferentwidth/lengthcombinations.

VISCOTAQ PE ShrinkWrapisusedfortheHeavyDutymechanicalprotectionofVISCOTAQproducts.Thematerialisavailableinrollsofdifferentwidth/lengthcombinations.Thematerials iswrappedhand tight around the VISCOTAQ product and shrinks by theapplicationofamoderateflame.

PU COMPOSITE WRAP is a special developed polyurethane thatcuresundertheinfluenceofhumidityandissuppliedinrollform.Whenuncured thematerial is soft andpliable. When cured thematerialoffersaRockShieldprotectionagainstheavymechanicalimpactswithhorizontaldrillingoperationsorfieldjoinprotectionon pipelaying vessels. PU composite wrap has been succesfullytestedupto20tonsindentationonpipelayingvessels.

VISCOBLOCK is a special fire retardant mortar applied incombination with VISCOSEALANT in pipe and cable conduits.VISCOBLOCKenhances thepressure resistanceofVISCOSEALANTagainsttheinfiltrationofmoistureandgases.

Read this chapter before using VISCOTAQ products.

This specification covers the application and field test requirements for VISCOTAQ Viscous ElasticCoatingProducts as anexternal corrosionbarrier for abovegroundandburiedpiping,girthwelds,fittings,bends,risersandflangeswithamaximumservicetemperaturesupto+80C/+176F.Pleasechecktheproductdatasheetofeachproductfortheproduct’smaximumoperatingtemperature.

This specification applies to coating of new pipe or repairs to previously coated pipelines. Theapplication procedures and product specifications for the use of the VISCOTAQ products shallbe considered an integral part of this specification and the Contractor shall have a copy of thisdocumentationonsitepriortothecommencementofconstruction.

3.0 - CONFLICT OF DOCUMENTS

3.0.1ThisspecificationshallnoteliminateconsiderationoftheContractor’sstandardpractices,whichmay be approved by the Owner if found to be equivalent or superior to the following specifiedrequirements.

3.2 - DEFINITIONS

Withinthebodyofthisspecification,thefollowingdefinitionsshallapply:

• Contractor:TheContractororSubcontractorresponsiblefortheprotectivecoatingworkincludingallsurfacepreparationandapplicationofthespecifiedcoating(s).

• Cut Back: Endofpipe that isnotcoated toallow for jointing.Usuallyabout150mm/6” to175mm/7”longoneachendofthepipetobejointed;canbeupto200mm/8”long.Oncetheweldiscompleted,thisareamustbecoatedwiththespecifiedjointcoatingproduct(s).

• Holiday:(AlsocalledaJEEP),apinhole,scrape,gouge,orotherdamagetotheprotectivecoatingthatexposesthepipeorsubstratetotheenvironment.

• Mainline Coating:Theplant-appliedlinepipecoatingtowhichthecoatingmaterialsmustadheretoandbecompatiblewith.

• Manufacturer:Kleiss&cob.v/AmcorrProducts&Services.• NACE:NationalAssociationofCorrosionEngineers.• Oil-Free Solvent:Anon-petroleumbasedcleaner that removesoil&grease,evaporatesquicklyanddoesnotleaveanoilyresidue.

• Owner:TheOwnerorOperatorofthepipelineonwhichtheworkisbeingperformed.• Owner Representative: The Construction Coordinator or third party Inspector designatedby appropriate Owner authority. This person is responsible to ensure that this specification isfollowedbytheContractor.

• SSPC: TheSocietyforProtectiveCoatings.• Shall, Must, Will:Mandatoryrequirementsthatmustbefollowedunlessawaiverisgranted.• Should:Apreferredorrecommendedaction.

3.3 - MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

VISCOTAQisanamorphousapolarpolyolefinintheformofarollorpaste.Foradditionalmechanicalprotectionandsoil resistance, itshouldbeover-wrappedwithatensionedPEorPVCouterwraporVPUCompositeWrap.

3.3.1MaterialstobesuppliedshallbeasspecifiedbytheOwner.

3.3.2ApprovedmaterialsshallbeusedbytheContractor.

3.3.3Contractorshallensurethatthecrewisequippedwiththerequiredequipmentandnecessaryexpertisetocompletethefullscopeofwork:

• AbrasiveblastequipmentincludingaCompressorequippedwithoilwatertrapsandacceptableabrasivemedium(sandorgrit).

• Anglegrinderandabrasivediscstoachievepowertoolcleanwhererequired.• Filesforremovingweldspatterandotheranomalies.• 80gritsandpaperforrougheningadjoiningplant-appliedcoatings.• Oil-freeSolventandlint-freewipingrags.• Knivesand/orscissorsforcuttingandtrimming• Temperatureandhumiditymonitor(s)forambientconditionsandacontactpyrometerforreadingsurfacetemperatures.(Aninfra-redpyrometerisnotacceptable).

3.4 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

3.4.1Apre-jobmeetingshallbeheldpriortostartofwork.RequiredattendeesshallbetheOwner’sRepresentative,includingtheThirdPartyInspectorandtheContractor’sJobSuperintendent.

3.4.2 The Owner shall approve all coating materials, installation procedures, equipment andqualificationsofapplicationpersonnel.

3.4.3TheContractorshallensureandbepreparedtodemonstratethatallpersonnelapplyingexternalpipe coatings are knowledgeable and trained in the application of the coating(s) being used. The40 yearswarranty is only applicable in caseswhere thematerial is applied by certified applicators,havingcertificatesissuedbyKLEISSorAMCORRandiswitnessedandinspectedbyacertifiedcoatinginspector.

3.4.4 The Contractor shall demonstrate that the proper equipment is used for safely handlingcoatedlinepipetopreventdamagetothecoating.Allpersonnelshallbeknowledgeableinthesafeinstallationofcoatedpipelinesusingtechniquestominimizecoatingdamage.

3.4.5Prior to installation, theContractor shall ensure that storageof allmaterials ismaintainedataminimumof5°C/50°Fandprotectedfromtheelements.

Coating of Pipe and Fittings:

• ThesurfacesofpipeandfittingsshallbecleanedinaccordancewiththespecifiedrequirementsofVISCOTAQ.

• Thecoatingsystemshallbeappliedinaccordancewiththeapplicationprocedures.• Forrepairstocoatedpipeorfittings,thedamagedcoatingshallberemoved.• Forburiedflanges,theapprovedmaterialsshallbeappliedinaccordancewiththeManufacturer’srecommendations.

• Piperisersandbendsshallbecoatedtoaminimumheightof500mm/1-1/2ftabovethesoilairtransition.

3.5 - SURFACE PREPARATION

3.5.1Allsurfacesshallbecleanedofmud,milllacquer,wax,tar,oil,greaseorotherforeigncontaminantstoSolventCleanSSPC-SP1requirements,usinganOilFreeSolvent(Acetone,DenaturedAlcohol,andIsopropylalcohol).NOTE : Industrial grade citrus based (d’Limonene) products are not approved foruseasanoilfreesolvent.

3.5.2Existingdamagedcoatingshallberemovedbeforeoraspartofthesurfacepreparationprocess.

3.5.3Newand repairedpipe,bendsand risers, thepipe surface shallbeabrasiveblasted toSA2,5/SSPC-SP10(NearWhiteBlast)toremoveallmillscale,rustorforeignmatterand/ordirt.Ablastprofileof50μto100μ/2to4milsshallbeachieved.Burrsandweldsplattershallberemoved.

3.5.4Forfittings,flangesandhardtoreachareas,thesurfaceshallbecleanedtoaminimumofST2/SSPC-SP2(HandToolClean),howeverwherepossibletoST3/SSPC-SP3PowerToolClean)

3.5.5Theoverlapareaonanexistingmainlinecoatingshallalsobecleanedwithanoil freesolventandabraded tominimumST2/SSPC-SP2 (HandToolClean), allowing for aminimumof 100mm/4”overlap.Theabradingshouldbeaccomplishedbyusing80gritsandpaper.

3.5.6Cleanedareashallbeblowndownwithcompressedairorbrushedtoremoveremainingdust.

3.5.7Allcleanedareasshallhaveprotectivecoatingappliedbeforeendofshift. Ifacleanedsurfacedoesnotgetcoated,itshallbere-cleanedonthenextshift.

3.5.8 IMPORTANT NOTE Affer blasting the substrate shall be cleaned with air. The blasted surfaceshallnotbeexposedtoair,sanddustormoistureandimmediatellybeprotectedwiththerelevantproduct.Exposuretoambientconditionsmaycreatepollutionorsuperficialoxidationofthesurfacepriortoapplication.

3.6 - APPLICATION OF VISCOTAQ TO PIPE, BENDS & RISERS

3.6.1VISCOTAQshallbekeptinaclimatecontrolledwarehousetoavoidfreezingandshallbekeptinawarmarea,suchasthecabofatruckwhileontheright-of-waytomaintainaminimumtemperatureof+5°/+41FC.

3.6.2ImmediatelypriortotheapplicationofVISCOTAQ,ambientconditionsandsurfacetemperatureshallbemeasuredtoensurethesurfacetobecoatedisabove+5°C/+41°F,relativehumidityisbelow80%andambienttemperatureisatleast+3°C/+37,4°Fabovethedewpoint.

3.6.3WhiletheVISCOTAQisratedashighasmaximum+80C/+176Fservicetemperature,theproductshallnotbeappliedtoanoperatinglineattemperaturesabove+80C/+176F.

3.6.4VISCOWRAPshallbespirallywrappedwithtension,attheManufacturer’srecommendedoverlapofminimum1 cmor½ “. Thewrappingprocess shall begin at least 150mm/6” over the existingcoatingandextendatleast150mm/6”ontothetailendoftheothercoatedsection.

3.6.5 The Tape shall be gently smoothed out by hand to ensure there are no wrinkles, folds, orentrappedair.Ensurethatthetapehascompletelyadheredtothesubstrate.

3.6.6 If specified, the VISCOTAQ shall be over-wrappedwith aManufacture specified PVC, PE outerwraporPUcompositewrap,appliedundertensionata50%overlap.

3.6.7ThecontractorshalluseaUVresistantouterwrapapprovedinwritingbyKLEISS/AMCORR.

3.6.8Inallcases,theouterwrapshallbeappliedleavingavisibleportion,approximately6mm/¼”,ofVISCOWRAPexposedatbothendsofthewrappedsection.

3.6.9 For application to flanges or couplings, the Contractor shall follow the relevant applicationprocedureinthismanual.

3.7 - APPLICATION OF VISCOTAQ AT ABOVE-GROUND TRANSITIONS

3.7.1Theapplicationshallbeginatleast500mm/18”belowsoil/airtransitionandcontinuingtoatleast500mm/18”abovesoil/airtransition.

3.7.2TheVISCOWRAPshallbeoverwrappedwithaUVResistantPVC/PEOuterwrap,appliedundertensionoraPUcompositewrap,allappliedwithaminimum50%overlap.

3.7.3Theouterwrapshallbeappliedleavingavisibleportion,approximately6mm/¼”,oftheVISCOWRAPexposedatbothendsofthewrappedsection.

3.7.4Refertotheapplicationprocedureinthismanualforvisualreferenceofthiswrappingprocess.

3.8 INSPECTION

3.8.1TheContractorshallberesponsibleforqualityassuranceoftheVISCOTAQCoatingSystem.

3.8.2ThequalityassuranceprogramshallbeapprovedandoverseenbytheOwner’sRepresentativeorathirdpartyInspectorasappointedbytheOwner.

3.8.3VisualInspection

• TheContractorshallprovideaqualified individualasa leadhandor foremantoensurethat thecorrectcoatingmaterialsandproceduresarebeingused.

• Therequiredminimumtoolsandequipmentmustbeonsite.• Therequiredsurfacepreparationhasbeencompleted.• TheVISCOWRAPandOuterwraphavebeenappliedattherecommendedoverlap,iswrinkle-freeandiscompletelyadheredtothesubstrate.

• Ifanyoftheaboverequirementsarenotmet,theVISCOTAQshallberemovedandre-applied.• Each section of applied product thatmeets the specification shall bemarked by the Inspectorwithawhitepaintmarkervisiblefromtheworksideoftheditch.

High Voltage Holiday Inspection (Jeeping)

• Prior to burial, all coated pipe and fittings shall be inspected for holidays using pulse typeDCholidaydetector.Testvoltageshallbeminimum10kVbasedonacoatingthicknessof1,8mm/70mils.Noholidays(jeeps)shallbeaccepted.

• Thehighvoltageholidaydetectorshallcomecompletewithtrailinggroundwire,correctlysizedspring for the pipe diameter, ground spike, wire and clamps for rounding. Never use holidaydetectorswithcontinuousDCcurrent!

• Onsiteverificationofthecorrectoperationandvoltagesettingoftheholidaydetectorisrequired.• Groundingboththepipemetalandthegroundterminalofthedetectorisnecessarytocompletethecircuit.Thismustbedonethroughadirectwireconnectionorbyconnectingbothtoearthasacommonground(trailinggroundwire).Inarid,sandy,rockyorsnowcoveredareas,wherethereishighelectricalresistivity,adirectwireconnectionbetweenthepipemetalanddetectorgroundterminalshallbemaintained.Whenatrailingwire isusedtogroundthedetector, thewireshallnotbecoiledorknottedandshallbekeptincontactwiththeearth.

• Thewirespringelectrodemustmaintaincontactwiththecoatedsurfaceatalltimeswhentestingisunderway.Anyadheredmaterialssuchasice,snow,dirt,etc.mustberemovedbeforetesting.

• Speed of travel should not exceed a measured walk (1 m /3 ft. per second maximum). Theelectrodeshouldalwaysbeinmotionwheneverthetestingvoltageisapplied.

• Holidaydetectorsmustbekeptcleanandfreeofmoisture.Spare,fullychargedbatteriesandtestmetershallbeavailableonsiteduringtestoperations.

• Wherejeepsarelocatedinthecoatingsystem,theentirecircumferentialringshallbecleanedandover-wrappedwithVISCOWRAP,overlappingthejeeponbothsidesby100mm/4”.

Field Peel Test

• Afterallowingaminimumof72hoursfortheVISCOWRAPtoadhere,theContractorshallperformrandom peel tests (and the Pipeline Owner shall request) to ensure proper bonding of theVISCOWRAP.

• Theprocedureshallbetomaketwocircumferentialcuts,eachat least150mm/6” longand25mm/1”wide,withacleancutacrossthetop.Thetwocutsectionstobepeeledshallbeminimum1mapart.

• Thetopcutshallbepeeledbackwithasharpedgesothatvisegrippliersmaybeattachedtothetab.Thetabshallbepulledata90°angleatameasuredspeedof100mm/4”perminute.

• Thepeel test is a subjectivefield testused toassesswhetherproper adhesion to the substratehasbeenachieved.Thepeel test isdeemedacceptable if theadhesive failscohesively,withthemajority(>50%)oftheinnerviscous-elasticlayerremainingadheredtothepipesurface.

• Thepeel test isconsidereda failure ifmostof theadhesiveeasilybreaksaway fromthepipeorplant applied coating surface.Whenmost of the adhesive breaks away from the pipe surface,the VISCOWRAP is deemed to be poorly bonded anddefective.Defective VISCOWRAP shall beremovedandreplaced.Thepeeltestissuccessfulif50%ofthesubstrate’ssurfaceremainscoveredwithVISCOWRAPmaterialafter72hours.

• If thepeel test fails,otherpeel tests shallbeperformed,movingbackwardson thecoatedareauntilapeeltestisacceptedasa“pass”.

General• Fieldweldedjoints,alsocalledgirthwelds,canbecoatedwithVISCOWRAPwithouterwrapofchoice.

Preparation• Excavate the field welded joint in such way that it is freelyaccessible from all sides. Make sure that there is enoughspaceunderthepipeline.Theminimumexcavatedspaceis30cm/12”fromthebottomofthetrenchtothelowerpartofthepipeline.

• Keep theworking area clean and dry at all times. Avoid thepresenceofwater.

• Regularly check whether the surface of the pipelineis+3C/+37,4Fabovethedewpoint.

• Protecttheworkingareafromrainandothermoisture.

Surface preparation• In case of rehabilitation the old coating should be removed.Removeloseparts,grease,debrisandmoisture.

• TheminimumsurfacepreparationshouldbeSSPC-3orSSPC-SP6but inordertoobtainbestvalues it is recommendedtoblast the pipe to a surface level near white metal SSPC-10.Althoughthesurfaceprofileisnotcrticalitisrecommendedtocreateaprofilebetween50μand100μ.

• Remove sharps edges on the welds. Do this by means of agrindingmachine.

• Bevelthefactory/adjacentcoatingofthepipelinetowhichaconnectionmustbemadetoanangleof45degrees.

• Theadjacentcoatingmustbemustberoughenedbymeansofsandpaperoragrindingmachine.

Technical minimum overlaps onto the existing pipe coating:The technical absoluteminimumoverlaponto theexistingplantcoatingnexttothegirthweldshouldbe10cm/4”foralldiameters.

RECOMMENDED overlaps and overlapping :Recommendedisa20%ofthewidthofthetapeforpipelineswithdiametersup to10”and15mm forpipelines largerdan10”. Fortheouterwraptheoverlapshallalwaysbeminimum50%.

RECOMMENDED band width of the total girth weld coating coatingFor pipe diameters up to 12”, the recommended overall bandwidth of the viscous elastic coating is 3 times the band widthof the girth weld area (i.e. the total cutback area). For pipelinediameters>12”,itis4timesthebandwidthofthegirthweldarea.

Application of the VISCOWRAP Inner Wrap• Theexistingfactorycoatingmustbebeveledtoanangleof45degrees (ifapplicable). Incaseof thickcoatings, likebitumenorcoaltarenamel,abridgeshouldbemadeonthebaresteelontothecoatingtransitionwithafirststraightcircumferencewrap. Thiswill facilitate to properwrap over the 45 degreesangle.

• Startwithafirststraightontheexistingfactorycoatingona12o’clockposition.Theoverlapontotheexistingfactorycoatingshould be a technical minimum of 10 cm/4”, however it isrecommendedtohaveatotalbandwidthof3timesthegirthweldare forpipes<12 inchand4 times thegirthweldareaforpipes>12inch..

• The first circumference wrap must be straight . Than startwrappingasacigarwrap.

• WraptheVISCOWRAPwithtensionwithatechnicalminimumoverlapof1cm.However it is recommended tomaintainanoverlap of 20% of the width of the tape for pipelines withdiametersupto10”and15mmforpipelineslargerdan10”.

• End on the other coating side with a straight wrap . Theoverlapon theother coating side should alsobe a technicalminimumof10cm/4”,howeveritisrecommendedtohaveatotalbandwidthof3 timesthegirthweldare forpipes<12inchand4timesthegirthweldareaforpipes>12inch..

• EventualirregularitiescanbefilledwithVISCOPASTE.• Testthecoatingwithaholidaydetectoratminimum10kV.

Application of VISCOTAQ PE or PVC outer wrap• PE/PVC OuterWrap shall bewrappedwith a 50%minimumoverlapwithtension.

• Thefirstwrapshouldbestraightandthenfollowedbyacigarwrap.

• The last section should end on a 4 o’clock position and beappliedontothepipewithouttension.

• A 5mm/¼” section of VISCOWRAPmaterial should still bevisibleafterthePVC/PEOuterWraphadbeenapplied.

• In case the PVC/PE Outer Wrap is applied in above groundsituations,thelastsectionofthe/PVCPEOuterWrapshouldbeappliedwithouttensionandatthespotwherethelastsectionsisappliedthesurfaceunderneathshouldbelightlyroughenedwithasandpaperandcleanedwithisopropylalcohol.

IN CASE OF USE UNDER DIRECT SUNLIGHT OR EXPECTED HIGH MECHANICAL IMPACTS IT IS RECOMMENDED TO USE A PU COMPOSITE WRAP, VISCOSLEEVE OR VISCOSHIELD AS OUTER WRAP

Application of VISCOSLEEVE

• VISCOSLEEVE material is supplied as pre-cut sleeves uponcustomerspecificationoras30m/100ft.rolls.

• WraptheVISCOWRAPovertheweldfromonesideof factorycoatingontotheothersideofthefactorycoating,overlappingontothefactorycoatingatleast10cm/4’’.

• Wrap the sleeve around the viscowrap. The circumferenceoverlaptobemadeshouldbeona1oclockposition.

• The sleeve should overlap onto the factory coating in caseofapipethat isnotconcreteweighted. Incaseofaconcreteweightedpipeline thesleevecan leavea5mmofviscowrapvisiblel.

• Unlikeconventionalsleevesthesleevesiswrappedhandtightaround theweldbutnot too tight.Somespace for shrinkingshouldbeleft.

• Thesideofthesleevethathasa45cutonbothcornersisthesectiontobeoverlapped.

• Heatonesideofthesleevewithamoderateflameandpatchthissideontothesidethathasthecutcorners.

• Heattheclosurepatchatonesideandattachthepatchtoonesideoftheoverlap.

• Heattheothersideoftheclosurepatchandattachthepatchtotheothersideoftheoverlap.

• Usearollertoremoveeventualairbubblesandsmoothenthepatch.

• Useamoderateflameandstartheatingtheshrinksleevefromthemiddletotheleftsideincircumferencedirection.

• Dothesameintherightdirection.• Finish with a roller and remove air bubbles and smoothenirregularparts.

• Whengrindingorblastingtheflange,theinsulationflangeorgasketmustbeprotectedinordertoavoiddamaging.

• Roughen the factory or existing coating of the pipe withsandpaper.ThisisthelocationwheretheVISCOWRAPwillbeapplied.

• In case of the presence of asbestos materials, the localregulations for removal of this material must be taken intoconsideration.

Application of VISCOWRAP material.• Theexistingfactorycoatingmustbebeveledtoanangleof45degrees (ifapplicable). Incaseof thickcoatings, likebitumenorcoaltarenamel,abridgeshouldbemadeonthebaresteelontothecoatingtransitionwithafirststraightcircumferencewrap. Thiswill facilitate to properwrap over the 45 degreesangle.

• StartwrappingtheVISCOWRAPmaterialasneartotheflangeaspossible.Thefirstwrapmustbestraight.Thefirstwrapmustbeatleastinaverticalpositionunderthebolts.

• Wrap into the direction of the factory coating and endstraight with an overlap of minimum 150 cm/64” onto the

Application of VISCOWRAP material on the flange outer rim• Wrapone layerof VISCOWRAPmaterial in the circumferencelengthoftheflange.

• Endwithancircumferenceoverlapof5cm/2”.• In case the flanges is toowide for onewrap,makemultiplesinglewraps,insuchwaythatthecircumferenceoverlapisatleast1cm/½”.

• In cases of multiple circumference overlaps, they should bepositionedinsuchwaythattheydonotoverlapeachother.

Application of the PE Outer Wrap• TheVISCOPASTEmaterialshouldhaveasmoothanduniformstructure and by preference a 45 degrees angle from theflangetoptothepipeline.

• Startwrapping the PEOuterWrap on the flange rim to onesideandwrapdownwitha75%overlap.Afterfinishingmakethe samewrap to the other side and end in the sameway.Make sure that the lastwrap is appliedwithout tension andsmoothlyfixthePEendtothepipe.

• A6mm/¼inchsectionofVISCOWRAPmaterialshouldalwaysbevisibleafterthePEOuterWraphadbeenapplied.

Chapter 12: Coating of underground flanges and exposed substrates

1. If possible, blast the pipeandflangetoagradeSSPC-10.TheminimumgradeshouldbeSSPC-3.

4. Protect the flange rim witha single wrap of Viscowrap.Make a circumference overlapofminimum5cm.

7.WrapaPVCorPEouterwrapfrom the flange rim down tothe pipeline. Tip : An outerwrapwithasmallwidthavoidswrinkling!

2. Wrap the pipeline sectionwith Viscowrap. If possible,start at the flange and wrapwithminimum1cmoverlap.

5. Start moulding theViscopaste sausages into thebolts. The Viscopaste shouldflow into all voids and no airparticlesshouldbeentrapped.

8. Do the same for the otherside.

3. Inject the Viscosealant intotheflangeaperture.Makesurethattheflexiblenozzleisdeepenoughintotheopening.

6. Create a 45 degrees bridgebetween the flange and thepipe surface by moulding thesausagesontotheflangeface.

Application of VISCOWRAP• RemovetheprotectivetapeandapplyonelayerofVISCOWRAPover thecomplete circumferenceof theflangeandmakeanoverlapofatleast5cm/2’’.

• In case the flange neck does not match the width of theVISCOWRAP,thanmaketwoseparatewraps,insuchwaythatthe circumference overlap between the twowraps is alwaysminimum1cm-1/2”.Moreispossible,lessisnotallowed.

Application of PVC Outer Wrap• ApplyminimumonelayerofPVCouterwrapwithtensionoverthecompletecircumferenceoftheflange.

• Applytheendofthetapewithouttension.IncasetheflangeneckdoesnotmatchthewidthofthePVCtape,wrapthetapewithanoverlapof50%overthewholeflangewidth.

• ItispreferredtoroughenthesurfaceofthePVCtowhichthelastpart is attached towith a sandpaper and to adhere theendof thePVCwithabutylprimertothesurface inorder togetaproperadhesion.

• Cleanthepipeandcableagainandmakesurenotloosepartsarepresent.

Injection of ViscoSealant• Cutthetopofthecartridgeabovethethread.• Install the flexible nozzle onto the cartridge and install thecartridgeintothegun.

• Push the throttle downwards and insert the nozzle towardsthebackingandstartinjectingtheViscoSealantwhilemakingacircularmovementaroundallthepipesand/orcable(s).

• Sensingresistanceindicatesthattheareaisfilledwithsealantandthecartridgecanbemovedtothefrontoftheconduitallwhilecontinuingtofill.

Finishing• It is advised to always use ViscoBlock in order to obtain apropersealingagainstthepressureofwater.
