1. Prepare

2. Protect

A. Prior to application or dressing change, assess the patient for pain, and medicate as indicated and as ordered. Prepare all dressing materials.

B. Cleanse the wound bed as instructed by the clinician.

NOTE: Do not use oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide prior to use of the Avance® Foam dressing kit.

C. Cleanse the peri-wound skin and thoroughly dry.

D. Indentify a relocation site for the Transfer Pad.

E. Cut the film into appropriate size and shape, to protect the skin underneath and the “bridge” section between the wound and the relocation site.

A. Cover any areas of the wound that need protection with Mepitel®.

B. Dry the skin thoroughly.

C. Place the pre-cut film strips/pieces onto the skin from the wound edge to the relocation site.

NOTE: If certain skin protection products e.g. zinc paste or skin lotions have been applied to the patient’s skin prior to application of the film, the adhesion level on the skin will be negatively affected.

Bridging technique with Avance® Foam Dressing Kit

The Avance® Film with Safetac® is designed to minimize patient pain1

F. Cut the foam, away from the wound into appropriate size corresponding with the dimensions of the wound cavity.

NOTE: Rub the foam edges to remove any loose particles

G. Cut the foam for the bridge section into strips or cut around the foam to create one long strip. Cut a piece of foam big enough to support the Transfer Pad at the relocation site.

3. Apply

4. Commence

A. Place the foam in the wound.

B. Place a foam strip from the wound onto the film strip. Commence bridging this foam on top of the remaining film strips to the relocation site. Ensure foam-to-foam contact between the wound, bridge and relocation site.

C. Remove the release liner in the middle of the film. Cover the wound, bridge section and relocation site with film to create a seal. Allow an over lap of at least 3 to 5cm onto the surrounding skin.

NOTE: Do not stretch the film as it may cause loosening of the film once negative pressure is applied.

D. Cut a hole in the film, < 1 cm in diameter, at the relocation site.

E. Remove the release film of the Transfer Pad and place the Transfer Pad directly over the cut hole. Gently press the Transfer Pad onto the film.

A. Connect the Transfer Pad tubing to the canister tubing.

B. Attach the canister to the pump.

C. Turn on the pump and commence therapy. Advise the patient that there will be a tightening sensation in the wound, but that it will resolve in a few seconds

D. Once the negative pressure is applied, the dressing will collapse.

NOTE: If the dressing does not collapse, the system may not be sealed. Inspect the dressing and use additional film for sealing, or remove dressing and start again.
