    Upon the request of Michael Dittus, citizen and day-laborer in this locale who hasdeclared his intention of settling in America, the following is herewith certified bythe undersigned municipal council:1. That said Michael Dittus is the legitimate son of Wilhelm Friedrich Dittus, a

    day-laborer, and his wife Gottliebin ne Baier, and that according to thebaptismal certificate that has been presented he was born in Schmberg on the24th of September 1797.

    2. That the same professes to be of the Evangelical faith.

    3. That he at present is married to Christine, the daughter of Georg FriedrichKling of Schmberg, and that he is the father of 5 children who range in agefrom 22 to 8 years and who will be following their father to America.

    4. That he is a subject of the State of Wuertemberg and a citizen of Schmberg.5. That, in so far as his property is concerned, that the same according to a

    credible inspection of records that has been completed3 consists of350 florins4 in cash100 florins in other holdings

    upon which, to our knowledge, there is no burden of debt.

    6. That nothing, to our knowledge, would stand in the way of his giving up histies to the state and to the municipality here.

    The undersigned Michael Dittus, citizen and day-laborer in Schmberg, who isdisposed toward emigrating to America and settling there permanently, wishes as attested to by this present document to renounce, knowingly andintentionally, the rights he has hitherto enjoyed as a citizen of Schmberg and anysort of citizenship affiliation with the State of Wrtemberg, this for himself andalso for his wife Christine ne Kling, 48 years of age, and the children namedbelow who are still under their fathers care:

    At the same time he promises, from the time of his departure and within a year's time,TO NOT SERVE AGAINST His Majesty the King and the Kingdom of Wrtembergand for an equal period of time, in regard to matters that might yet come up beforeauthorities representing the sovereign and the kingdom in the way of claims madeagainst him, he promises to bear these out in that he, in fulfilling this obligation, offers the local citizen Michael Fuchs, a shopkeeper, as surety.6
