1.4 Turf Suggested Turf Seed Mixes As the City of Hume experiences low rainfall and hot summer winds it is often difficult to establish grass successfully. Generally, irrigation systems will not be approved for turf, therefore 'Dryland turf mixes' are recommended. The following lists are provided as a guide only. Developers are encouraged to contact specialist turf seed companys for advice based on the most recent research and developments. Location Mix General Non-irrigated Parkland Reserves & Naturestrips/ 60% Dwarf Tall Fescue- drought tolerant cultivars

20% Perennial Rye- drought tolerant cultivars 10% Hard Fescue 10% Sheeps Fescue

Revegetation, Erosion Control & Creek Corridors 30kg/ha Sheeps Fescue 30kg/ha Hard Fescue 11Kg/ha Tettila Rye (15%) per hectare added for soil stabilisation and to prevent weed invasion during establishment period.

Irrigated Reserve Kickabout Areas 40% Perennial Rye- drought tolerant cultivars 40% Fine Turf-type Rye x 2 varieties 20% Creeping Red Fescue

Irrigated High Traffic Areas In Reserves - around playgrounds, seats and picnic areas etc 40% Fine Turf -type Rye x2 varieties 40% Creeping Red Fescue 20% Couch

Irrigated High Profile Roadsides & Areas Associated With Built Space 60% Dwarf Tall Fescue 30% Creeping Red Fescue 10% Couch

Irrigated Sports Turf 70% Fine turf Rye x 3 varieties 20% Creeping Red Fescue 10% Couch
